Suns drop three more players for disciplinary reasons

Must be some huge alcoholics at GC if they can't hold off on going out and getting drunk for a very short amount of time, damn. Is alcohol really that important to some people? I don't know, I get drunk maybe 1-3 times per year, more incidentally because I'm socialising rather than anything else.

How could you have sympathy for them? It takes the same amount of self discipline to not stick your hand into a cookie jar. And they're clearly not even banned from having a drink or two socially, as we've learned. Just more "ra ra can't a bloke have a beer, I drink beer too so I'm on their side" BS. You can drink whenever you want because you're not a professional athlete, they train once or twice and play a game of footy every week, give me a break. If they could handle their alcohol, I suspect there wouldn't have been a temporary ban. Clearly Eade doesn't think they're recovering up to standard, and he's been at 3 very decently performing clubs (during his time there). These suspensions should only prove his point.

I guess for the Suns it's all part of having an entire list at basically the same age, no real leaders, not having had an experienced coach before now and being at the friggin Gold Coast. Of course not all of them would have so little self discipline and they don't make the papers for it, but this is appalling.

If Eade is interested I haven't had a drink this week.

I can't play AFL, but neither can half their side, so it might be worth a punt.

What other job prevent you from having a glass of wine when you are not onsite working. FIFO might be dry for their weeks at work but can certainly have a drink during their time.

Brain surgeon?
Pilot?
Prime minister?
Are we saying footballers will be impaired physically or mentally by having one glass of wine with their dinner? The teatotlers need to get a grip.

It is unreasonable for a workplace to tell their employee they can't do something in their own time if it has no adverse effect on their employment.

Have you ever been a part of a footy club? Mate clubs don't have "one glass of wine with their dinner". Almost everything they do is done to extreme. I spent over 10 years playing and can safely say almost every post game recovery was a dozen beers...before we even got started to go out.

Fair to say the directive was made because Rocket (or others) knew what was going on.

Agree though that of all (or most) were sensible, there would be no issue.

From the Roar four months ago:
Harley Bennell plays less than seven games
It is the buzz around Perth over the 2014-15 off-season. It could be injury, it could be form, it could be a certain AFL code of conduct being breached. Either way Bennell is in for a rough 2015 season.
As for Bennell having seen him on Christmas Eve at a well renowned drinking spot around town you could tell it was more than a few drinks that was affecting him. Doing a little bit of research after seeing him that day and speaking to a couple of different sources with knowledge at the Gold Coast there is a real worry and potentially a real problem going on behind the scenes. Apparently AFL media have no interest in trying to get a scoop, because do not think it would be hard to get if the hard questions were asked.

Pretty good prediction.

They should of tried to talk a leader type into going up there....

Maybe they did.

Luke Ball or similar?

The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.

Google that quote, you might be surprised.
Fair enough,
Might just be a sign t
Do love the "its all Gen Y, they're just impossible to deal with" generalizations. I'm 36 and that puts me on the borderline of Gen X and Gen Y and I actually feel bad for all the crap that entire swathe of the population cops.

In terms of them all being indulged and never told "no", they've mostly entered or been junior in the job market through the Great Recession of the past 5-6 years. Youth unemployment at the moment is 15%. You know why they all still live with their parents? Because housing has become utterly unaffordable for young people, while Baby Boomers sit on property and rake in negative gearing etc.

Every generation has labelled the next generation as the worst ever, lazy and unappreciative. Doing that is part of being an old fart.
"The Great Recession" - Must have been having a nap and missed that.
There has not been any significant recession for at least 25/30 years.
I was more referencing attitudinal issues and may have been influenced by the delightful young lady I met that day who was in a P plate non commercial vehicle parked in a loading zone using her mobile who when asked politely to move responded with F... O..!!
A not uncommon example, no respect and self absorbed.
If this qualifies me as a "Old Fart" I will wear it.

Housing is only unaffordable because the princesses don't want to leave their mummies suburb.
You could also add that it is a required "Rite of Passage" to take a Gap year and blow big $$$$ on a world discovery holiday because they deserve it while buying/maintaining a SS Commodore because they need it.

Younger posters won't understand what I'm talking about, because they're pretty much like sheep, but with players being asked to abstain from alcohol, it's not only a physical thing, it's a form of self discipline as well. Both designed to increase your potential as a footballer. If players aren't able to stay away from the grog, even for 1 bloody week, then what hope do they have?

With all the great things out there a young person has to do, if all they can think of doing when they have some time off is heading to the pub and getting smashed, then it is a sad commentary on our youth.

These footballers amaze me. They are playing football for a living, and being paid handsomely for it, you'd think in order to keep doing this, they'd at least listen to their employer, and if they say stay away from the booze and drugs, that's exactly what you should do.
