On this day in 1909 we defeated Carlton by 2 points in the GF after losing to them the week before in the GF by 22 points.

I distinctly remember two goals.
After he retired he coached Sydney Uni in 1992.
First game he picked himself at centre half forward - as a former backman I understand this.
First kick for Uni was a goal.

The great Ron "smokey " Clegg would've been 95 today . A great of his era Brownlow playing CHB and CHF , 4 time B&F and all Australian

Was my first South hero. Famously took 32 marks in a drawn game v Fitzroy on their home deck We were the underdogs. Those marks were not cheapies but contested. The match was described for many years as Cleggs game.
Smokey could and did play with distinction in any position.
