Sydney vs Hawthorn SCG Saturday Night - Double Chance at Stake

I was one who was always keen on seeing him in red and white because I'd seen what he could do for you guys. I was only saying on Saturday to the Giant's fan alongside me that "even when the Swans are playing like crap I always head to the SCG simply to watch the Buddy show." He's remarkable. I've loved watching stars like Goodes and Magic but he's so reliably brilliant.

Yeah Sydney aren't my favourite team but some of my favourite non-hawks are Swans (Parker, JKennedy, Reid, Grundy). But my favourite non-hawk will always be the big bud, I can't hate him for leaving us and I still love watching him tear it up.

I really hope he does indeed get remembered as the greatest ever CHF over Carey, they couldn't be further apart on the good bloke/dog bloke scale.

You must admit though, from a pure looks point of view Buddy looks so much better in red and white
Yeah, I don't know about that. Purely from a looks point of view, Buddy looks heavier, slower and less dynamic than in his Hawthorn days. He gets hyped MUCH more by the media now that he's the AFL's marketing tool in Sydney, but purely from a looks point of view, I preferred the sleeker, quicker, dashing freakshow who terrorised opposition defences in his younger days.

At Hawthorn, he took 148 bounces in his 182 games.
At Sydney, he has taken just 38 bounces in his 107 games

Bearing in mind, Franklin was part of a balanced forward line at Hawthorn, sharing the goals with Roughead, Rioli, Gunston, Williams, etc. At Sydney, he is almost the lone hand up forward and gets every Inside 50 directed his way. By rights, his stats should be better with the Swans, but he seems to get beaten in the one-on-ones way more than he used to. I suppose all footballers slow down as they get older. They have to get by more and more on their wits; by playing for free kicks & looking for cheapies, etc

But we've both had the privilege of watching him strut his stuff for our respective
clubs :thumbsu:

Franklin is huge at the moment but is kicking goals so doubt anyone gives a hoot.

He's near the top of my "watch for the blow out post football" list.

Jeez what gave you that idea...

Come on. If you're carrying excess weight, a tight white jumper isn't the best look. Looked near Lockett like the other week in that old South jumper.

Think I’d play for Carlton from a weight point of view just go all dark, be injured for the wanky grey jumper games

Is he still on your list though?

Yeah

Happy to be corrected but I thought he was as we still paid him, an maybe next year, could be wrong

He is having a similar year to last year

I’d love to see some graph or stat on how accurate the delivery was at hawthorn v what he cops here

His ability to polish a turd at Sydney is exceptional, with some of the butchered passes he makes into goals

add to that more ball to him with less other threats means more double teaming

Man 2008 was good though watching him on the lead marking the ball at pace

I love our jumper.

What ? Even that diamond piece of s**t you wore in the 95 pre season?

My mother in law is a passionate hawk she loves the colours, she wears her brown jeans to every game.. maybe you could get some of those

It was good to see a 100 goal season, I miss that being a regular thing, not to take the thread off course

But just listening to the great 93 podcast and so many players kicking big bags. Even silvangi kicked 10 in a game, Lockett, Dunstall, Modra, Ablett, Carey, kernhahan

Buddy is at least some throwback to those days

If by ugly you mean suddenly the opposition players are intimidated I agree :)

Side note, I think Sydney and Hawthorn should play for the Luke Brennan Cup when competing against one another.
Spangher mcglynn cup would be better

Not to mention banjo in the theme song

Where it began, I can't begin to knowing
But then I know it's growing strong
Was in the spring
Then spring became the summer
Who'd have believed you'd come along

Hands, touching hands
Reaching out, touching me, touching you

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I'd be inclined
To believe they never would
But now I

Look at the night and it don't seem so lonely
We filled it up with only two
And when I hurt
Hurting runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt when I'm holding you

One, touching one
Reaching out, touching me, touching you

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I'd be inclined
To believe they never would
Oh no, no

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
Sweet Caroline
I believe they never could

Sweet Caroline

I remember an American visitor, on being told before the game that Buddy was our superstar player said "Who? The fat guy?". I do sometimes think to myself that he must not have to do skin folds.

My question is whether the Hawks / Swans rivalry is bigger than the West Coast / Sydney rivalry from the mid 2000s. It's not quite as even or close, but it has gone on much longer with both teams being more-or-less top 4 since about 2012.
