Anyone keen to have a crack?

B Quaynor Moore Howe
HB Noble Frampton Maynard
C J Daicos Pendlebury Markov
HF Sidebottom McStay Mihocek
F Hill Elliott Schultz
R Cox De Goey N Daicos
INT Cameron Mitchell Crisp McCreery
Sub Hoskin-Elliott
Emerg Ginnivan McRae McInnes Lipinski

I think it's tricky with some moves still up in the air. With how out of left field the Schultz one was, who knows what else we have up our sleeve.

Also think there's a lot to play out with Murphy's situation yet. That all being said, as it stands now:

FB: Howe - Murphy / Frampton - Maynard
HB: Quaynor - Moore - Markov
C: J. Daicos - Pendlebury - Sidebottom
HF: Hill - Mihocek - Schultz
FF: Elliott - McStay - McCreery
FOLL: Cox - De Goey - N. Daicos
INT: Cameron - Mitchell - Crisp - Allan
SUB: Lipinski
EMERG: Noble - Macrae - Ginnivan - Hoskin-Elliott - Johnson
DEPTH: Harrison - Kreuger - Dean - Ryan - McInnes

I've used the term emergency for those I think likely to play a few games, and depth as those I think might nab a couple throughout the season.

B: Quaynor, Moore, Noble
HB: Howe, Murphy, Maynard
C: J Daicos, Mitchell, Crisp
HF: Hill, McStay, McCreery
F: Elliott, Michocek, Schulz
Fol: Cox, De Goey, N Daicos
Int: Pendles, Sidebottom, Macrae, Cameron
Sub: Markov

Markov starts for sure. Why does Noble replace him? I reckon Oleg is built for the Fly style.

I reckon WHE deserves his spot. He was super in the finals.

And no Lipinski?

I do imagine that some of Howe, Sidey and Pendles are rested during the season.

But I am starting to like the balance of that forward line - will be chaos when that ball hits the ground.

Yep, you've definitely picked the three biggest controversial parts! :)

Noble v Markov - line ball, but I am genuinely a Noble fan, and was disappointed he missed the finals this year. You could toss a coin and switch up he and Markov in the lineup, and if so, I reckon Noble would be good as the sub.

WHE - I don't think he overall was all that good in the finals if I'm honest, and honestly not sure how long we can carry his low possession, low pressure act game when a full list to choose from. I do totally acknowledge that the CFC selection committee don't agree with me :)

Lipinski - I am also not impressed by him. Slow, not strong / physical, and disposal under pressure very iffy. Was okay in the GF to be fair, but the prelim he was terrible in my view, and very lucky.

WHE is versatile, a good kick, and runs hard all day

Courageous also

He’s in

It’s Noble vs WHE for me, not vs Markov. Markov is just a really solid defender who provides similar drive to Noble while being better one on one.

B: Brayden Maynard - Nathan Murphy - Jeremy Howe
HB: Jack Crisp - Darcy Moore - Isaac Quaynor
C: Josh Daicos - Scott Pendlebury - Steele Sidebottom
HF: Bobby Hill - Dan McStay - Beau McCreery
F: Lachie Schultz - Brody Mihocek - Jamie Elliott
R: Mason Cox - Nick Daicos - Jordan De Goey
I: Tom Mitchell - Oleg Markov - Darcy Cameron - Will Hoskin-Elliott
Sub: Ed Allan

E: John Noble - Patrick Lipinski - Billy Frampton

Great team, can't argue, but WHE's versatility will win out over JFN every time. Saying that, I do love the little fella. Macrae might be getting a look-in also.

Murphy out concussion
In: Dean

Out: Lipinski in Fin. We’ve got to give the kid as much game time as possible.

Out Frampton in McStay obvious.

Don’t think we’ll get Shultz this year, Freo do hold players to their contracts. So small forwards the same with maybe AJ slotted in as sub.

B Howe Dean Bruz
HB Q Moore Ryan
C Jaicos DeGoey Sidebottom
Foll Cox Titch Naicos
HF McCreary McStay Schultz
F Bobby Checkers Cameron
I/C McCrae Markov Lipinski Pendles
Em Allen

Murph (retired)
Ryan was chosen as best young player; he’s playing.
Adams was allowed to walk; McCrae is playing.
Freo was told to shove it; Allen is playing.

This was tough!

Pretty standard really

B: Quaynor - Moore - Howe
HB: Markov - Murphy - Maynard
C: J Daicos - Pendlebury - Sidebottom
HF: Schultz - Mihocek - McCreery
F: Hill - McStay - Elliott
R: Cox - De Goey - N Daicos
INT: Cameron - Mitchell - Crisp - Hoskin-Elliott
Sub: Lipinski

E: Macrae - Harrison - Noble - Frampton

I think Harrison is the biggest loser out of the Schultz get as he was poised to play a fair bit next season but will be much harder now. Macrae, Allan, Ryan and McInnes will also be around the mark and get some game time you would hope.

If Murph retires then Frampton will have first crack but Kreuger could also be an option

Honestly starting 2024 is so much more difficult to do than 2023. My 2023 was basically what we had on Grand Final day with a couple of differences.

2024 is genuinely difficult because I'd be doing while trying to strike a balance between attempting back to back while also building for the future.

Like, I'd want Macrae and Allan in there. I also wouldn't mind seeing Dean and Frampton down back with Moore maybe being played in a forward/ruck role for something really different.

Fun fact: WHE was the last person to kick the ball in both PF and GF.

What does this mean? Probably nothing other than he is a talisman for our ability to win the close ones. He probably personifies the new CFC mentality of run, pressure and play keepings off.

He's a first picked for me. With all his faults.

I've picked Murphy because I love what he does and refuse to believe his career can end so quickly.

B Quaynor Moore Howe
HB Hoskin-Elliott Murphy Maynard
C J Daicos Pendlebury Markov
HF Sidebottom Mihocek Schultz
F Hill McStay Elliott
R Cox De Goey N Daicos
INT Cameron Mitchell Crisp McCreery
Sub Lipinski
Emerg Ginnivan Macrae McInnes Noble

Assuming we pick up Schultz. Round 1 side:

B - Quaynor Moore Howe
HB - Maynard Murphy Crisp
C - J.Daicos DeGoey Sidebottom
HF - McCreery McStay Hill
F - Elliott Mihocek Schultz
R - Cox Mitchell N.Daicos
INT - Pendlebury Cameron Markov WHE Ginnivan

EMG - Noble Frampton Lipinski Macrae

Essentially from the GF side McStay comes in for Frampton. Schultz in for Lipinski. Ginnivan/WHE move to sub.

B Howe Dean Bruz
HB Q Moore Ryan
C Jaicos DeGoey Sidebottom
Foll Cox Titch Naicos
HF McCreary McStay Schultz
F Bobby Checkers Cameron
I/C McCrae Markov Lipinski Pendles
Em Allen

Murph (retired)
Ryan was chosen as best young player; he’s playing.
Adams was allowed to walk; McCrae is playing.
Freo was told to shove it; Allen is playing.

This was tough!

No Jamie?Surely we could fit him in,couldn’t we?

….let’s hope we can get the injured players who are “best 22” out on the park soon.

(Ps. It does say round 1….not best team.
So I figured we had a horrible summer with injuries!! :) )
