No other club has ever managed to get a million people or more through the gate in a home away season.
It's why these clubs are the big 4.

Geelong will get close once our new stand is open. +14k total seats, so at least 10k to 9 games is 90k extra. Plus the two games upcoming which should be 22k at Geelong and 35k at Marvel. 147k plus 820k is 967k.

We should be playing 11 games in Geelong once the new stand is open.
Plus with Tasmania coming into the league, it'll mean all those Hawthorn and North games currently being played there every year will be spread between the MCG and Docklands.
There'll be no reason why we should be playing any home games in Melbourne at all and I doubt we'll get a million through the gate in a home and away season.

Collingwood only need 34,000 to break the all time home and away year end attendance record. Collingwood’s crowds have been insane.

Yes there is a big 4 but in reality Collingwood are clearly no.1.

Carlton, Richmond and Essendon are challenging for the 2nd biggest club

Collingwood Crowds are always insane…

Wonder how it adjusts for total capacity though? Carlton and Essendon are basically at a 50/50 split between MCG and Docklands, whereas Richmond played 13 at the MCG and 3 at Docklands, and Collingwood 14 and 3.

So far:

Collingwood: 75.12%
Carlton: 70.99%
Essendon: 64.45%
Richmond: 62.21%

Pretty impressive tbh

Not sure the AFL will allow the Easter Monday match against Hawthorn when Geelong host to not be at the MCG.

They all get a lot of marquee games at the MCG, don't forget.

Shocking we're behind Freo (is this a first), but being almost guaranteed to lose every week that ain't surprising.

It’s home and away isn’t it? Playing North at Marvel and Hawks in Tassie probably just tipped us under. Not sure how the gather round games have been worked out. Freo did play Suns at Norwood, which funnily enough may have gotten higher attendence than playing them in the Gold Coast. But possible we have been given more than them for that round.

We may pip them with a big crowd for Shuey and Hurn farewell, with them playing Port in the final home game no chance of finals. Dogs fans should come out for a must win and easy win.

Not that this matters. Pretty good sign for both clubs considering the poor years (one worse than the other obviously)

Easter Monday should be Collingwood v Carlton. Guarantee 85,000 fans next year.

Actually play collingwood v carlton every Easter Monday. Guarantee 80,000 every year
While you're at it, Pies should never have to travel with all their games played at the MCG.

Rival clubs need to understand what an honour it is to play the Pies.

Just sucks that GMHBA will only be 40K capacity after all that work. Should've been 50K minimum given the amount of cats members and people wanting to go down for the day
Hopefully will be if they complete a stage 6 to pull down remaining stand and rebuild (extend across road) and fix oval shape with the stands completely all the way around.

You were last year too but covid affected that result. If they did the count at full time you might be in trouble.

The gate numbers only tell half the story. Footy is so much cheaper in Melbourne, clubs aren’t generating as much revenue as other cities. The AFL is redistributing wealth around the country.

Yep, all Friday night and Saturday night games should be for the big four also.
Save Sunday for the minnows.
Better still, lets have a breakaway comp, with just the big 4 Vic clubs and a couple of the interstate power houses.

Mate, these comments really make us as a supporter group, seem very self-entitled.

We should have Good Friday not Easter Monday :p

Wont be long till it gets upgraded again.
Government gets votes from that region, so will continue to pour tens of millions into it.

No love for the hawks. Only one game against each of the big clubs, so not inflating the figures.
2 games against gws, one of which was at norwood. Club absolutely stinking it up early in the year, and then the 4 games in tassie (yes I know, it's our contract)

Collingwood playing more games at the MCG and sitting on top of the ladder and off the back of a successful season last year vs Essendon playing less at the MCG and being mediocre and coming off the back of a pretty s**t season.

Definitely not clear at all that Collingwood is all that far ahead of Carlton or Essendon's supporter base once those two sides get their s**t together and play at a more consistent level.

Richmond getting over a million through the gate in a year they've been ordinary and had their coach quit mid season is fairly impressive.
