I can't wait for October 16th, for trade period to be over. This is the most frustrating 2 weeks of the year hearing a million people "with strong mail" who in actual fact are all talking sh1t. Pretty dirty on free agency as well.
I have studied the drafts for the last 10 years a lot recently, looking at our good years and bad and who reamins, and the media has pointed out we now have nothing left from 2009, but after a pretty lucky 2010 (some shocking decisions made there, but some great rookie and F/S pickups) we've drafted and traded pretty solidly, I think.
Based on that, I have faith in the current recruitment staff, and would like to this off season to really hurry up and be over so we know who's in our team, can start preseason and everyone can become optimistic again.
Serious question;
Who was our recruiting staff in 2009 and throughout Eade's tenure?
When did that staff change?
Who is our current recruitment staff now? I know Darlymple leads, and we hired someone to scout northern leagues this year, but not sure how long he's been in charge and who helps him, and how it differs from before 2011, where we had some very poor drafts/trade off seasons.
Since Macca has been at the club, our recruitment has improved a lot. So it's the 2011,12 and 13 drafts.
2011: First pick 17 Clay Smith, Talia, Pearce, Dickson. One miss there perhaps. Jong was Rookied in this year
2012: First pick 5 Stringer, Macrea, Hrovat, Hunter, Pruden. All good so far.
2013 First pick 4 Bonts, Fuller, Honeychurch. One miss there perhaps.
The 2010 draft was ok in that we lucked out with Libber and Wally, so we nailed the early picks by default. The balance of that draft was pretty ordinary to be honest. So while he's not the head of recruitment, lot's of other are involved and should take most of the credit I reckon Macca has added his own mark to recruitment methodology with his emphasis on not just ability but type of bloke you are getting and his background off field.
