And the dropped marks and missed goals.

I dont know a hell of a lot about Schacke but they reckon he is a good kick wouldnt that be nice for a change? We have a long history of bad kicks for goal in out forward line going all the way back to the pieman!

Need to get a Specialist goal kicking coach now. St kilda got Ben Dickson a few weeks ago to fix their issues

We found ourselves in a position that was hard to manoeuvre out of (too many contracted players to make good use of 2nd round picks in this draft), but it was only our own list management choices during contract negotiations that caused this to be the case.
It's a problem you're bound to encounter when you have a deep list. You won't see Carlton having too many contracted players. If we hadn't signed players on before the trade period, there's every chance a few of them would've gone elsewhere for more security and we'd be moaning about how we only got pick 72 for them as well.

Thought this made for some interesting reading.

Dons were pretty keen on Schache apparently. That makes me feel good ;)
Interviews after the trade asked Dodo if they were linked to Schache and he shook his head with an emphatic, "Nah". I'd say they were probably spoken to by Brisbane regarding pcik 25, would they honer the trade with he dogs so Brisbane would get that pcik. Media took it as Bombers offering Lions 25 for Schache.

****en Tigers just did 20 and 25 for 15 and 51! Isn't that pretty much the deal they rejected from us??

Which means they are attempting to go Back to Back with the list of potatoes...anyone see them as Bulldogs 2017 v2.0?

You can certainly judge whether we obtained fair value on trade outs of established players IMO. And JMac consistently fails. He even failed to meet his own publicly nominated standard of a high first rd pick for Stringer. Sorry but that is out and out failure.

Agree we can't judge Schache for...5 years?? But IMO you can't teach competitiveness. McGuane's assessment that he wouldn't go near him was damning. (Mick has a good a footy brain as anyone IMO)

And who knows what trading out next yr's second will cost. I've a sickening feeling that this move could be the worst of the lot.
I'm not sure what you expected him to want or say. Did you expect him to say Stringer is damaged goods and we'd be lucky to get a late first rounder or try his best to drive a hard bargain saying we want a top 10 pick. At the end of the day Stringers price was always dictated by the buyer. Unfortunately in this buissness once a player nominates a club it's almost game over, particularly when there isn't much interest which says a lot for a bloke of Jakes talent.

I wonder whether they feigned interest to try to scare us into taking 25 and 30- kind of like "If you don't take 25 off us, we might take Schache with 25 ourselves and only offer you 30 for Stringer".

As I said at the start of trade period, more than happy to see Stringer go.

Was against Schache and am still unsure but at least he appears to have a good set of hands unlike Boyd.

Still maintain that we really needed to target speed during this trade period. A Charlie Cameron type is a biggest need IMO.

We will be one of slowest sides in the comp next year.

Doubt it, we wouldn't buy that bluff, they don't want or need a Schache, and having showed absolutely no interest up till that point in him, it would have been a pathetic bluff.

Meanwhile at Norf!
Surprised they kept all of Goldstein-Daw-Preuss on their list for next year. Reckon they should have offloaded one of these guys, probably Goldstein to hit the draft with as many picks as they could. Guess there was not enough interest to make it happen.

Thought Swallow to GC made sense also, perhaps it will still eventually happen without draft picks being involved.

How does trading 2nd round 2018 Ffestiniog getting West ?

Assuming he is worth points equivalent to say pick 26 (even with discount) we can use points from rounds 3,4 and any others we bring in to get him ?

We will still delist 4-6 players next year to make space

Ok, so we traded Stringer for 25 + 30. That gave us #9; #25; #28 and #30. So what if Carlton refuses to trade 25 + 30 for 16? We send Brisbane what for Schache? 28 and 30? We would have been left with #9 and #25. Is that a better outcome? Remember the Schache deal was completed with 30 seconds to spare according to David Noble. We'll never know whether arguing over the 2018 second would have meant we ran out of time to do Schache but I'm pretty sure that Dalrymple would much rather have 9 and 16 this draft period and forgo 25 or 30 or whatever next year's second is going to be.
Your way too sensible for BF Mutt. Keep up the good work.
