Former SA Premier John Bannon passed away in hospital today.

Best remembered for being Premier during the disastrous collapse of the State Bank, Bannon was credited for business and social development in SA during his time as the state's longest serving Labor Premier with the submarine project, mining expansion, Casino (and Adelaide railway station) and F1 Grand Prix.

Bannon was extremely active in academic life following his resignation.

No doubt in my mind John Bannon wanted the best for our state and its long term future. Not much more you could have wanted from a dedicated public servant. May his ambition and legacy be a beacon for our future representatives. Vale.

72 is a young age to go nowadays.
