Win Prizes WAFL Tipping Competition 2022

Remove this Banner Ad

The WAFL is back again for Season 2022 and the BigFooty WAFL tipping competition returns for another season. The off-season proved to be another interesting one with plenty of player movements plus coaching ones too and COVID-19 is now out into the community within Western Australia. Season 2021 managed to finish in relative normality and was also an entertaining one nonetheless, culminating in the best attended Grand Final for close to 20 years.

There's 10 teams again in 2022 after the West Coast Eagles withdrew from the competition for a few weeks before any potential alignment went awry and they were forced to enter their WAFL side into the competition again this season. With the Eagles having had rather serious issues with injuries and COVID-19 over the pre-season, this adds an element to any side who faces them during the year. The biggest questions surround the top few sides from last year with a number of clubs affected. Can Subiaco go back-to-back in 2022 or will South Fremantle atone for last year's Grand Final loss? Will Claremont and West Perth take another step forward this season and can Swan Districts go deeper into the finals this year? Peel Thunder looms as the dark horse with some impressive pre-season form and should benefit from having a number of listed AFL players from Fremantle at their disposal. East Fremantle too would have had high hopes of a finals berth but were hit hard by the AFL's recruitment rules late in the pre-season with several players drafted.

We're back again for Season 2021 with the BigFooty WAFL tipping competition returning for another season. This year see us head into the "new normal" as things slowly begin to get on track with COVID-19. Season 2020 was an odd one with only half the amount of games and one less side than 2019 but it still provide to be an entertaining one nonetheless and culminated in what was one of the better Grand Finals in recent memory.

2021 saw getgaff claim the tipping competition crown in front of samFFC and Falconista. Will one of those three claim the crown in 2022 or can someone else finish on top of the tipping ladder this season?

The rules for this competition are as follows,
  • Each correct tip will see you receive one point.
  • A drawn match will see all tipsters receive one point regardless of which side they tipped.
  • A bonus point will be awarded to the tipster who correctly guesses or is closest to the margin for the winning team in the margin game for that round. The margin game will be the televised fixture of that weekend. If there is no telecast fixture a game will be selected at random. Should there be two or more televised games, all games will be margin matches.
  • To receive a bonus point you must select the winning team, if no-one selects the winning side then no bonus point will be awarded.
  • Any tipsters who select the same winning margin or tie for the closest winning margin will receive one point each.
  • Tips must be placed before the commencement of the first game of the round.
  • Any tipster who misses a round will receive the lowest score of all tipsters for that round.
  • The tipping competition will run for the home and away rounds only. A separate competition for fun will be run for the finals.

The fixtures for each round will generally be posted on Tuesday nights to give everyone enough time to put their tips in for the upcoming round.

If you're interested in tipping for 2022, post your interest below. There's plenty of room for new tipsters or for those who have had a break from tipping in recent years so if you know someone who is interested from around the boards or your club's team board, share this thread and tell them to jump aboard and get amongst the WAFL this season. Hopefully we will have another great tipping competition and a fantastic season once more in 2022. :thumbsu:

Apologies for the lateness all. DurtleAU, Freofalcon, getgaff and masai tu, your tips have been noted in the other thread but if you want to include them here then that's fine.

Round One proved to be a very entertaining opening to the season with three games decided by under a goal, another by under 10 points while Peel Thunder vs East Fremantle was a tight contest until three quarter time. The best score for the opening round of the season was three by a number of tipsters while andana went against the grain to tip South Fremantle which netted him the bonus point this week and a total of four points for the round.

With one round complete, andana takes the early lead in the competition on four points with a bunch of tipsters tied for second place on three points.

Round Two Fixtures (ANZAC Day Round)

South Fremantle vs West Coast Eagles at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (Saturday, 1:10pm)
Swan Districts vs East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval (Saturday, 2pm)
Claremont vs Subiaco at Revo Fitness Stadium (Saturday, 2:10pm)
Peel Thunder vs West Perth at Lane Group Stadium (Sunday 2:10pm, margin)
Perth vs East Perth at Mineral Resources Park (Sunday, 5:10pm)

Round Two is upon us with this week being the ANZAC Day Round and also another long weekend. This week's matches are split between Saturday and Sunday, including a twilight game on Sunday.

First up has South Fremantle hosting the West Coast Eagles at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in an early game on Saturday afternoon. Souths started a little slowly against Subiaco last week but worked their way into the game during the second term before overcoming the Lions in the last term to grab a first up win and perhaps some consolation for the Grand Final loss to the Lions in 2021. West Coast Eagles faced Perth in Round One and surprised quite a few pundits with how they played, leading the game at regular intervals and pushing the Demons all the way until the final siren before just falling short. The Bulldogs will prove to be a tougher challenge so we may get a better gauge on where the Eagles are after this week's game.

Swan Districts face East Fremantle in the round's next fixture on Saturday at Steel Blue Oval in a Saturday afternoon game. Swans travelled to Leederville Oval last week to tackle East Perth and lost by a narrow margin against the Royals with the teams separated by less than a kick at the final siren in what was a highly entertaining affair. Swans head home for their first home game of the season and host East Fremantle who gave Peel Thunder a run for their money by taking it up to the Thunder for three quarters against a Peel Thunder team with half their side consisting of AFL listed Fremantle players. The Sharks weren't done many favours courtesy of the AFL's SSP listings during the pre-season but after a better year last year they will be keen to knock off Swans on their home deck this weekend.

The western suburbs rivals in Claremont and Subiaco face off at Revo Fitness Stadium in a traditional Saturday afternoon fixture. The Tigers visited Joondalup in Round One last week and upset West Perth, claiming a narrow four point win to start their season in the best possible way and play host to Subiaco this week who come into this game off an eight point loss against South Fremantle at home to start the season. The Lions started well last week but general skill errors and some wasteful goal kicking hindered their chances of victory. Both these clubs have played some great games over recent years and this is shaping up to be an early season belter this weekend.

Perth battle East Perth in a twilight game on Sunday at Mineral Resources Park in Lathlain. The Demons faced a spirited West Coast Eagles in Round One with the Eagles proving to be quite the challenge as both sides fought out a see-sawing battle on Saturday afternoon. In the end, Perth prevailed by less than a goal in one of several close matches to start the season. East Perth also come into this match off a win, impressing as they held off Swan Districts in their Good Friday clash at Leederville. This match is the only game this round where two undefeated teams will play against each other so a 2-0 start to the season will be very enticing for either side heading into the game.

The TV game this week and therefore our margin match is the Sunday afternoon fixture between Peel Thunder and West Perth at Lane Group Stadium down in Mandurah. Peel Thunder faced East Fremantle outfit last week with the Sharks taking things right up to the Thunder for three quarters as Old Easts impressed with their general play. The Thunder did steady though in the last term, kicking seven final quarter goals to overrun the Sharks and get their season off to a winning start. West Perth played host to Claremont on Saturday in what was a close match with both sides enjoying periods of momentum in what proved to be a good game up at Joondalup. West Perth charged home towards the end of the final term with two goals in five minutes but couldn't quite overhaul the Tigers in what was a four point defeat. Channel Seven is covering this game with the telecast set to start at 2pm with bouncedown at 2:10pm. This match also leads into Seven's coverage of the AFL on late Sunday afternoon on 7mate for the ANZAC Day Eve clash.

There's lots of movement in the Colts and Reserves this week. In the Reserves, Swan Districts meet East Fremantle at 9am on Saturday while Claremont face Subiaco at 11:30am. There is some doubt about this game going ahead though as Claremont have apparently been hit quite badly by COVID-19 and there is a risk the game may not go ahead. On Sunday, Peel Thunder take on West Perth at 11:40am while Perth and East Perth clash at 2:40pm. In the Colts, Claremont host Subiaco at 9am on Saturday with the remaining games to take place on Sunday. Peel Thunder will battle West Perth at 9:10am with the Swan Districts vs East Fremantle fixture to take place at the same time. Perth tackle East Perth at 12:10pm on Sunday afternoon.

The weather this week is looking very good with Saturday and Sunday both set to be sunny with maximums of 28 degrees on each day, perfect conditions for playing and watching some footy.

Well, Round One is done with Round Two not too far away and it is great to have the WAFL back for another season. There's some good games on the horizon this week with clubs looking to continue their run of form from the opening week or turn things around on the weekend. Don't forget also that tips can be sent to me via PM should you want or feel the need to. Enjoy the long weekend and happy tipping!!
