There would still be a clash if worn with white shorts and current socks, against West Coast's tripanel.

Sorry Richmond, you need white or silver like the rest of us.

Sorry, but I hate this post.

We want to get rid of the white, and replace it will yellow peril wings clash - yet you say Richmond must use white?

I think you're in the wrong thread Smeagle

Best clash strip in the league (well, not yet)

Nah, this would be the best clash strip in the league:

There are two issues here.
Put aside the Wings for a second. I know this is the Wings thread, but the Richmond clash issue was brought up and obviously needs to be addressed.

The fact of the matter is, whether we like it or not, the Tripanel IS our home jumper (and for a while yet), and thus a team travelling here should be able to produce a strip that WILL NOT CLASH. Every other team is capable of this, except Richmond. Friday was a pretty devastating event on a few fronts for the passionate West Coast people who value our brand and identity, that was comprimised on the big Friday Night stage for a big Victorian team.

Unfortunately, the 'ideal' scenario of a gold inverse for Richmond will not work against the Tripanel. I know it is aesthetically pleasing, I know it will work against their other two clash teams in Essendon and Richmond, and I know we would prefer to wear the wings at home. We don't, and we haven't since 2009, and Friday has proven the club will choose the clash over the away for marketing reasons.

Most importantly, there is a moral issue and a double standard with the AFL having to make the home team change jumper. Being asked to change is fundamentally wrong.

The onus is on the travelling team and the AFL to avoid a clash with the home team. Currently that is not the case, and having a gold-with-black sash and white shorts is going to be effectively the same clash as we saw last year. One could argue this is the product of the Tripanel being half-gold itself, and thus an ineffective 'dark' strip - to the point where the AFL actually recognised it as our 'light' jumper, until the white jumper was brought in. However, the Tripanel has been approved as a home strip by the AFL, and therefore we deserve to be treated with a modicum of respect in regard to what other teams wear at Subi.

Look at the Western Bulldogs - they don't say to the AFL "well our blue-with-white and white-with-blue jumpers aren't really going to work here, just make the Eagles wear all white and we'll wear all blue". Footscray have worn red jumpers, shorts and socks specifically for games at Subi.

Forget the wings. We all love them, we all want them to be our sole two interchangeable jumpers, but it is very clear now they were never on the agenda for this game, nor any other at home for the last 5 years or into the forseeable future.

Would you have preferred the Eagles in a white clash jumper and the Tigers in their home, or vice-versa? I know what I'd choose.

We will be honouring sponsor Bankwest by wearing a special edition tripanel in Bankwest orange and navy.

I drafted a smart arse jokey reply to this, but thought better of it ..... just in case:

- Saints yellow Pura Light Start jumper
- Blues M&M travesty
- Richmonds grey silver top taxi top (thank god it was for pre season only)
- Brisbane and the Paddlepop Lion jumper

Neither. Royal blue wings = no problems. This is the message that we are about.
I don't think that any of us here care what works or doesn't work against the tri-panel. We want it gone. Its very existence has created these sorts of issues.

I posted this on the main board game day thread, the issue is with the AFL criteria

clubs have to have a light jumper and a dark jumper, with colours deemed light and dark, and minimum percentage requirements for coverage

Yellow is deemed light, and the side panels give us the minimum amount of light we need to qualify for a "light" jumper

EFC got screwed becayse the AFL changed red from a light to a dark colour, hence the ugly fat sash died, and that hideous grey disgrace was inflicted upon us

Problem with this is twofold.

firstly, some colours don't neatly fit a light/dark mix. Adelaide is a classic

Secondly, it doesn't consider where the colours are. several clubs have unintended clashes because of the back of the jersey being virtually identical

Finally the AFL don't actually do one simple task - line up the jumpers against each other and look at them. Don't need to do that when you have a %age formula hey? This is why you get this issue coming up often on game day, or a few days before, because its only at the last minute someone goes "WTF?"

FWIW I think we need more commonsense on this. Compare the jumpers from the start, and sort this out before they are even approved.

Any emails back from WCE/Gary?

I reckon after last week they have had enough of all of us! It's pretty obvious they don't give a s**t, and that line in one of his response emails, "Some people actually like the current home guernsey" tells me it's a lost cause.

Brisbane for example probably had nobody that liked the paddle pop over the original, but the non football, business types we have running the club these days (massive part of the problem IMO, not just on this matter, but as a whole) are likely the ones who like the current home and clash and have no passion towards our past or heritage. The almighty dollar is all they care about.

Sorry for butting in again, but have you discussed a boycott (ie fans agree to not buy the tri-panel and only the alternate jerseys until the change you want is made)

A lot of stock not moving (lets be honest, bigfooty fans are most of the footy freaks who buy a new jumper annually), but a lot less tri-colour in the crowd may send a message

again, no idea if this is a bridge already crossed - I'm genuinely interested in this issue though because it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Problem is I don't know how much of a difference it would make. I mean at the games, I don't really see a larger number of one guernsey compared to another. I guess that's because we have 3 completely different designs, and each supporter buys their favourite. Kids seem to be the ones wearing the clash, which is what we have been told "the kids love the white clash guernsey".

The thing that annoys me is the club would sell guernsey's no matter what design we brought out, so why not just go back to the best one we've ever had, and leave it at that. Everybody win's, we get the wings back, and the club continues to make money.

It just astounds me that it can take this long, and that our opinions seem to mean nothing to the higher ups at the club. It's been said so many times before, why not send out a little survey with each membership pack, a simple self addressed card or envelope, so people don't have to spend a cent, just mark the guernsey you like best, or whether you agree or disagree to changing the design back to wings from the current.

It seems so simple for the Dogs and Lions to change their guernsey's, and actually listen to their members and supporters, yet it seems like for us it's harder than finding MH370!!

It's actually much harder to get the wings in kids sizes - my son has had 3 Eagles jumpers in various sizes as he has grown and they have all been tri-panel because that was all I could find (2 of which we were living in Melbs).

That is true, every time I have looked for my oldest son, it's only the tri panel available, it's like this whole thing is some kind of sick joke!!!
