Is it just me or did this kid at times look the real deal the other nite? I am not sure if it was the chewy , the tan, the extra muscle, the arrongant swagger he had or maybe a combination of all.

Anyway he looked massive and he was very clean on the lead and I have a feeling the boys (coaches) decided last year that Hartlett is the most likely CHF we had and as such facilitating the release of JK who seems to lack that one grab marking ability

Now that Harts is on the (if any) good end of injury, we should start to see what he is truthfully capable of, and his capabilities stretch even further than last weeks scratch match.

Can't wait for the season to start, Hartlett is just another reason why:thumbsu:.

I had a quick chat to Harts today and he is a top quality bloke. He seems really excited about the new season and very keen to prove himself.

definitely appears to be nice down to earth fellow but the jury is still out on him. I don't think he is natural footballer. I hope i'm wrong.

The one thing JK has is one-grab marking ability - he just never showed it at senior level. Put it down to nerves and confidence - iron hands are always a tip-off. He was often awesome at VFL level.

I'm afraid we'll be reminded more than once how much ability JK has.

I think I saw some of the same bullies game as you but this is about Harts

Firstly Harts was bigger 2 years but has lost weight in a bid to put less pressure on his hammies. He is light on compared to most CHF his height.

He got out on the lead twice and marked with little pressure.
His other goal came after the ball was kicked off the ground from 15m away and landed on his chest. Rarely will he find 3 goals so easily during the season proper.

Im not sure if the chewy, tan or swagger on their own will be enough to see him make CHF his own. Im also unsure combining the above will do that much extra for him. Im not even sure how he managed the chewy while wearing a mouthgurad.

At best I see him as a battler at senior level, and find it hard to picture him developing into a high quality CHF.

Lets hope he can stay fit long enough to prove himself one way or the other.

Only if we don't get him back.....;)

Hartlett is an excellent CHF prospect IMO. Just hoping he stays injury free. I actually prefer him to JK in that position. Very interesting comparing JK to Hartlett. Different styles. JK is pretty much a CHF who can present all day, and has fantastic endurance. Hits packs hard, and can bring the ball to ground well. His initial speed off the mark was a problem, and needed a long lead to burn off his opponent, which is pretty hard to achieve with all the flooding going on. Hartlett's style is a lot different. The guy has a very confident attitude, and a touch of arrogance about him. He'll hit packs extremely hard as well, and looks like he really wants the ball. His endurance isn't as good as JK's, but he's quicker off the mark,a lot more agile, and better at ground level, Hartlett is also a thumping kick and has the capability to play KP defense if needed, whereas JK couldn't. :)

After 3 years of not much we should all have doubts but Aissassin, that post is just silly.

You're saying our top goalkicker's efforts in a game of football, when there were no other forwards in the team, need to be discounted because

a) he was on a lead twice and
b) he was in front for a third goal.

That is exactly what he should be doing and what he was rewarded in doing. At his size if he gets a few on the lead and then uses his strngth close to goal and can kick an average of 2 goals a game we will be LAUGHING.

While it was hardly the best game to get a good indication, the signs were at least promising. 3 goals in a half is a fair effort - couple that with his attack on the footy he showed in his limited game time in 07, and I think he's got some potential. Hopefully he's over those injury troubles - another injury crippled year and it could be lights out for Harts - and he'll be given first crack at CHF to show what he can do. He's got four weeks in the NAB Cup/Challenge series to cement himself a spot in our starting 22, and hopefully he grabs the opportunity with both hands as he really seems to be the only decent CHF forward option we've got at the moment (Fisher is a flanker, Cloke will always be a battler, Kreuzer might do okay there but is a ruck first and foremost).

Agreed.

Harts is a better kick than the workmanlike Spalding ever was.

And Earl had a very good career as a vital part of the Carlton side and o was a hard working forward who provided a contest at CHF to take the pressure off Sticks.

It's no coincidence that we had our best ever season when Earl played every game in 1995.

If Harts' can stay on the park, I think he could be a foil for Fevola like Earl was for Sticks.

Hartlett is a better and longer kick than Kennedy and good overhead after he took a big grab in round fourteen last year. I can't remember Hughes' exact words, but Wayne said Hartlett was either the best over head mark or the biggest kick in the 2005 draft in a post draft interview.

I think it was the latter.

If Tim Boyle can turn it around after having a terrible run with injuries, there's no reason why Hartlett can't do it now that Kennedy isn't in front of him.

Christ, Harts looks in tip top shape there! That had to be a 55m+ kick with just a drop punt!

Hopefully he kicks 5+ this weekend:thumbsu:.

He's always been a thumping kick, and an accurate one. I have no doubt he was frustrated with injuries and the drafting of JK who basically looked destined to take the CHF position. He now has a massive opportunity to make a name for himself as a top-quality AFL CHF and he knows it. Really like the changes Ratten's making up forward. The forward line has always been a strength, but now it's about improving that strength by adding some extra-dimension and unpredictability. Hartlett will be a lot more effective and mobile than JK. Plus we'll have Hampson and Kruezer providing tall KP forward options, who will be just a nightmare for opposition defenders to deal with. Our weakness has been a lack of medium size forwards. Looks like Russell and Gibbs will be our HF flankers in 2008. Edwards will also debut. This guy has a ridiculous amount of natural talent, and is blistering on the lead, and will do well once he gets a bit more confidence. The nice thing about this forward-setup, is there are so many options, so Ratten can target opposition deficiencies. When you add in our midfield talent to the equation, the mix is devastating. :)

He metioned at the Family Day that Jakey WILL make his on field debut this weekend against Port Adelaide, most likely as a CHF or temporary FF, so we've all got that to look forward too:thumbsu:.

Should be great. Jake seems a confidence-type player to me. Against Freo, he got some bad delivery and a few suspect umpiring decisions against him, and let it get to him. Needs to get more consistency in his game. Noticed that at VFL level - he was brilliant one week, and then went missing the next. :)

I'm a little suspicious of Jakes game. I don't mean to be doubtful about his game, especially if I havn't seen him play before, but from what I have heard (and your coment cements the idea), he's not exactly reliable. If he were able to develop a match winning mind set he could be a very healthy and handy aquisition.

Needs consistency and confidence. And that will happen with gametime and experience. He has the talent. :)

Good to see. I'm heading down to as many Ants games as possible this year, hopefully I don't see much of him there:thumbsu:.

Hopefully we get to see Harts and Jamison excell in their particular roles in the next few weeks. I think by season end they could cement a place in the team if they keep up their efforts. A 20-30 goal year from Harts would be very, very beneficial to us both in 08 and in the future.

Very exciting!

Was impressed with some of his decision making across HF. The boy might just make a CHF yet.............if only those Hammies would hold up.......
