I took the girlfriend along for a look today. Only saw the last quarter of the ressies and Henry White was very impressive. Needs to bulk up but very good in traffic, gets the hands free when tackled to lay off a releasing handball. Reminds me of Farren Ray. Mulligan looked good in the ruck.

Good result in the main game. Started slowly but took control when Callan Ward started getting his hands on it. Not only is he a good ball user but he is great overhead and doesn't mind taking a hit when he goes up for a mark. He's knocking at the Bulldog's door, real hard.

As was said previously, Stack was great, showed lots of intensity and broke the lines on numerous occasions. His defensive pressure was good all day, which has been something he's been criticised for in the past. Harbrow played better than I've ever seen him play. Was creative in the midfield, ran hard and used the ball well and made the opposition look silly at times. He needs to take that confidence with him when he plays with the Dogs.

Everitt was good in patches, taking some nice marks and playing on quickly. He also used the ball well by foot. He just needs to string together games now.

Williams looks fit and ran the game out well, took on players and rampaged like a bull at times. Took some nice defensive grabs. Got pinged for holding the ball a few times but I think he might have been instructed to take the opposition on. He's not far away in my opinion.

Ray was busy, ran well and used the corridor effectively. Showed poise when under pressure. He and Ward look the closest to senior selection.

Skipper and Street both had solid games, as did O'Keefe.

Dishonourable mention to Doogs. Just showed...nothing. Got lead to the ball by BEN HOLLAND on more than one occasion. Kicked a long goal but that was it. He'll be lucky to keep his spot on the list if he doesn't improve his effort considerably.

Won it in a canter in the end, a sign of a fit team. It was a shame J. Grant didn't play, anyone know the reason. Didn't spot him in the res. game. Saw a couple of the Doggies boys; Griff, Gia (that made the gf smile) and Shaggy.

No reason why Willy can't go all the way this year. Good signs for the future.

I made it to the game for a bit of the 2nd and 3rd quarters, then my 1yr old decided it was home time. Here's some happy snaps.

I went along and was just so impressed with Callan Ward. It's been mentioned already (and probably sounded like an exaggeration) but he really does look like a certain 200 game player for the club.

Guy O'Keefe will most likely play at some stage this year too - having Higgins out has probably helped his chances as he is a fairly similar player.

true, although if i was eagleton i would be worried.

Firstly i'd just like to say that i was very impressed with stack yesterday. I thought i was easily the best game i've seen him play, he looked a different player and showed us glimpses of that class he has. Perhaps playing as a half back the last 3-4 weeks has given him some confidence at last.
I really hope he keeps attacking the ball the way he did yesterday. Well done to stacky.

It's no secret callan ward is one classy player, another solid game from him.
I had to remonstrate with a zebra moron who claimed that he'd seen kindergarten kids tougher after receiving that shirtfront in the last quarter that drew claret from his nose.

Harbrow showed once again that he can dominate this level. He just needs to have that confidence in himself at the dogs. Seems to be more comfortable playing in the middle of the park than up forward, perhaps he should get some time in there the next time he makes the dogs side.

Doogs was plain awful yet again. He's just got all the ability but no idea what to do i'm afraid.

everitt was ok, still several weeks away though.

Williams struggled a bit, tried to bust through every tackle but wasn't really prepared to offload a pass if he didn't get through, so got caught a bit.
Had a nice run down the middle for a bout 25 metres, he saw the opposition player waiting for him dead ahead, and didn't know if he should go around or straight through. Ended up walking right into him and go caught, was like a rabbit in the headlights.

Noticed a few of the seniors in the crowd. Gia, shaggy, tiller, griff, addison,

Callan Ward is a player of the future and will no doubt get a run this year if we have some injuries or form issues.

Did you ask the Zebra's supporter what the hell he was doing hanging around kindergartens???

Got to the game at half-time after Mother's Day lunch with the family.

Overall I thought our players did well, Willi got some soft free kicks in the 3rd qtr but dominated the last, especially in the middle.

I agree with most here that Callan Ward was very impressive, took a beautiful mark and was praised by the coach at 3rd qtr time. Should come in to the Dogs side very soon, Hill has dropped form in the last three weeks and Ward would be a great replacement. Maybe one more game for Hill and if he doens't turn his form around, Ward must be the next choice.

Stack impressed me, made a great run from half-back and launched an inside 50 that made Sandy players look to be in slow motion.

Ray looked good and would be close to senior selection, maybe for Eagleton.

Everitt looked a bit sluggish IMO, was second in the contest a couple of times, he may have been better in the first half (which I didn't see).

Williams was ok, but should really dominate at this level. Wouldn't rush him in at this stage.

Skipper was excellent, played aggressively, was very vocal and looked like an accomplished player. Would be a good back up to Minson/Hudson/Wight.

Street was good but still very limited around the ground, Paul Johnson roamed freely and effectively.

O'Keefe was solid and linked up a lot of play, looks the goods.

McDougall was terrible, got caught out of position at times and just doesn't show enough to warrant a position on a senior AFL list.

Harbrow was hard at it, won most ground contests he was in, needs to bring that game to the Dogs. Looked classy and determined.

Streety still seemed to hit every tap out directly into the hands of the opposition. He needs to be a lot more aware of his teammates and plan the hitouts. Winning the tap is useless if they win the clearance.

does stack have the tank or is he confined to that rebounding half back role? he does look very, very impressive though

I cannot agree. His ruckwork was pretty good yesterday

Not 100% sure, but he started on the bench and appeared to be benched for 5-10 minutes every quarter, so it would suggest his fitness level needs improving. No doubt he will be a star if he can work on his fitness. He reminds me of Hill in a lot of ways.

It seems that Williamstown coach Brad Gotch has a more positive view of Andrew MacDougall's current form than others who have been watching Williamstown. Below is the match review of last weekends game published on the Williamstown Football Club website.

SEAGULLS CRUSH OLD FOES

By Howard Leigh - 13th May 2008

WILLIAMSTOWN coach Brad Gotch couldn't remember a more comprehensive victory over VFL powerhouse club Sandringham in his seven years at the club than the one the Seagulls enjoyed on Sunday.

Playing at home at Burbank Oval, Williamstown crushed the visitors by 64-points.

"We have enormous respect for Sandringham, their players and their administration," Gotch said.

"They have been the benchmark of the competition for the past 15 years and more.

The Seagulls plundered seven final quarter goals to win 19.16 (130) to 9.12 (66). With five wins the Seagulls hold down second place on a narrow percentage gap to North Ballarat.

Gotch said his players had showed true grit when Sandringham came from five goals down at half-time to get within one kick midway through the third quarter. "You have got to take your hat off to Sandringham they put us under pressure," Gotch said.

The Seagulls answered the challenge to push out to a 24-point lead at three quarter time after inspirational goals to Brett Johnson, Dean Galea and Wayde Skipper.

"We raised the bar and blew them out of the water, Gotch said. They made a few mistakes and let us in."

Gotch admitted he had a rich array of talent at his finger tips.

"It's a great position to be in," he said.

Talent includes hard-running tough tackling midfielders Ben Jolley, skipper Brett Johnson, Liam Picken, Jarrod Harbrow, Callan Ward, Liam Picken and David Stretton, who all had a big impact on the game.

Talls Peter Street and Skipper were also dominant, while the defence led by Scott Meyer, Andrew McDougall and Jason Cloke was resolute.

Jolley had 27 disposals, Johnson and Picken each 24, Harbrow and Ward 23 and Stretton 21.

"I thought they were all good, particularly Ward who kicked two goals, Gotch said.

"His lace-out left foot passes were really special."

Ward set the game alight with a 30 metre left foot Peter Daicos-style goal 13 minutes into the first quarter.

He left the ground midway through the last quarter with a broken nose after a heavy collision but should be right for this weekend's game against the Bendigo Bombers. Harbrow staked his claim for AFL selection.

"He provided run, dash and carried the ball, Gotch said.

The Williamstown coach praised Street who had 32 effective hitouts, nine marks and 18 disposals.

"Street is a modern-day player - an attacking ruckman, he said. He really makes it happen because he reads the game so well.

Skipper booted three goals from 14 touches and five marks to also stake claims for an AFL recall.

Meyer, at full back, used effective spoiling tactics to restrict champion Sandringham player Nick Sautner to two goals.

"Scott wasn't getting looked at in the ruck so we tried him in a key position, Gotch said. He has good athleticism and kept Sautner quiet although he missed two or three shots for goal.

"He did a great job because there was a fair amount of ball coming into their forward line.

Centre-half-back Andrew McDougall impressed keeping Melbourne veteran Ben Holland to a handful of possessions.

"McDougall has been really good for the past two or three weeks, Gotch said. "It's hard for him to get a game with the Bulldogs, because they are no gaps. Cloke had 20 possessions, midfielder Farren Ray 19 and Andrejs Everitt 16 and eight marks.

There were other positive signs in Williamstown's final quarter onslaught with Box Hill/Hawthorn recruit Matthew Little booting three goals on debut after a shoulder injury. Rose kicked two last quarter goals to give him three for the match.

It appears that when a player is in the gun with certain supporters, no matter how he well he might play, he stays in the gun!

Remember Sam Power!

Sorry, but that has to be one of the worst arguments I've ever seen!
(Pretty sure it wasn't the so-called expert fans who got rid of him ;) )

Of course, he also said this: "Street is a modern-day player - an attacking ruckman, he said. He really makes it happen because he reads the game so well.

Now, I actually do rate the Streetsta, but he's as close to being a 'modern day, attacking ruckman' as I am!
(It also suggests that Big Willy will one day be in the HOF.)

[Also, I wouldn't have thought keeping Ben Holland to a handful of possessions was all that note-worthy...]

What else is he going to say? I back the reports off Bulldogs supporters at the ground over something he writes as he needs to be careful when writing things and we don't. If Doogs reads that he may be encouraged but if he reads what we write he would slit his wrists.
