Lot's of people chew on their fingernails, although I have never been a fan of this. I rip mine off. I used to do it only when I was bored, but now it's kind of like a habit. It's enjoyable to use your thumb to tear a bit at one and and lever it off until you've got a nice clean tear. I used to throw them on the ground, but after a few girls at work started commenting I thought I better dispose of them properly. Most of the time I put them in the bin, but sometimes I put them in my pockets. I have actually tried chewing on them, but I don't get any enjoyment out of it at all.

Toenails are another matter. Often when I'm sitting around the house I'll have a dig at them. The smaller ones are easy to pull off, although it sucks when you pull too much off and they bleed and are sore when you're walking around. The big toenails are another story though. The only time you can have a crack at those bad boys is after a shower. It's always impressive to see a giant nail sitting in front of you. The really little ones are a worry though. I often end up pulling more of my little toenail off than is left and wonder whether I've actually pulled the whole thing off....

Needless to say, pulling toenails off is enjoyable. I have not used toenail clippers since I was about 5 and think they're a pretty shit invention. Lots of people I know though seem unable to remove their nails without these tools. Anyone else pull their nails off, chew them, or have a need for clippers?

I've always played alot of soccer and i've always had a terrible soccer ball kicking technique, and my preferred foot big toenail comes off every few weeks or so. It hurts like all hell until it does, then I get a few weeks without pain. I triple layer the socks so it doesnt hurt as much during games. I play indoor most days and there is alot of toebashing etc.

I chew the finger nails. I find I get a clean smooth cut when I chew them and less chance of taking too much off - that's an annoying pain for a day or two.

Just an all round terrible individual really when it comes down to it.

started off as a nervous habit with me and then developed into a regular habit. last summer i tried to quit chewing my nails and was rather successful for a few months...but then footy season rolled around and the nervous habit kicked back in

Unfortunately, I'm part of the herd who bite their fingernails habitually. I find mastication of the fingernails to be a filthy habit, yet I still do it!

Generally, I bite my fingernails during football matches (damn Collingwood), or to simply put it, when I'm really nervous. I try to stop myself with sheer will, but usually fail miserably.

Although, back when I had my orthodontic braces on, it was almost impossible for nail biting. But alas, since I had them removed, I have reverted back to my old, filthy habits (three years now).

I don't see how people can bite their nails. I can't even get my nails off with my teeth.

Trust me, it's very easy. Next time you're at an AFL match, take a good look around you, most likely there are people biting their fingernails, or you could just watch Ricky Ponting on a cricket field. :D

Ladies don't dig it lads

When it comes to impressing girls, it's only a couple of rungs down from picking your nose. I remember pissing off this one girl that I went out with after I finished high school. She had a serious nail phobia or something. I'd pull my nails off and give them to her, or half pull them off and scratch her on the face with the sharp bit of the nail. She couldn't handle it. Had serious problems that girl. haha. :o

I rate this troll 7.5/10.

Good work.

Wait. Do you mean just peel a bit off? Or the whole thing? I've only had my big toe nail fall off a couple of times and it didn't hurt too bad but it bloody hurt during the process of just peeling away slowly.

My nails never get bitten but I do just put them in my teeth when I'm nervous. Don't bite them off just leave them there...

I'm talking the dead part of your nail that you either pull off, bite off or cut. The white crusty curls that girls like to leave in bathtubs. Sorry for the confusion.

That's revolting. I just let mine hang and they look like these bad boys:

I pull my toenails off. You have to be careful not to take too much. I've taken the majority of the toenail off my little toe so many times :(

I'll bite at my nails sometimes - although not as a nervous reaction - and others I'll just try and tear them off like the toenails.

I used to bite my nails. Like some of you, I knew it was a filthy habit but I couldn't help it. Did it for most of my life and one day made the decision to stop doing it. It was pretty easy once I put my mind to it, and now I don't even feel the want to do it.

I used to bit my nails when I was a kid, but for some reason I just stopped when I was about 15. It wasn't really a conscious decision, either. I just... Stopped doing it.

I kind of wish I still did it, though. I read somewhere that fingernails are meant to grow 1mm per week. Mine seem to grow half a centremetre every two weeks. I hate having to cut them so often.

Ah, you're right. The end of the dead stuff then.
Kewl. I don't bite them.

A friend of mine used to in primary school.

Had such a bad problem that his mum used to put this terrible tasting stuff on his nails to stop him.

Did not work, but some how I learned my lesson due to his problem and was dissuaded from chewing my nails.
