yeah i thought the finale was a really really great stand alone episode
the pace was brilliant, the coffin and church scene were mesmerizing, although i dont actually like it, im happy with it

for me the show has always been man of science vs a man of faith

early on it was numbers, the hatch, the button, and the then towards the end the time travel kicked in, this is the LOST that i fell in love with, i put up with the jack/kate/sawyer/juliet thing to get to some of those trippy answers, i understand they had to have a heap of the cheese in to keep it on the air

the constant is the on of the greatest things i have ever witnessed on screen, cinema included, putting it together in my own head when desmond was skipping through time was just so ****ing brilliant, they could have had hurley having clairs baby after that and i woulf have backed them

normal_constant001.jpg

also rewatching season 2 episode 1 the intro when theres music being played and des is going about his morning ritual was top 10 ever

i just rewatched with my housemate who had never seen any of LOST and became obsessed, watching him watching that scene not knowing WHAT THE **** WAS GOING ON!!!!!! reminded me of just how ****ing amazing this show was

and to do it on ABC and not HBO really puts it in its own category

Of course they matter. But we got a lot in seasons 5 and 6.

We got some of the above too, see bold (and this is without researching).

Most of those weren't very satisfying.

- Widmore lived on the island for most of his life, then in a few years after exile he became filthy rich and started spending obscene amounts of his newly earned money so that he could find the island and take over the little band of others?
- The Valenzetti Equation stuff is obviously a bandaid solution. It doesn't explain anything about the numbers.
- Exposure to EMR makes people able to travel through time?
- Why did radiation after the incident kill pregnant women?

It's like they came up with the mysteries first and then had to come up with something to explain them later, if they bothered at all. Their explanations often require an alternative version of science for them to make sense and it's never explained why things work this way on the island. What is the damn island?

They could have told the same story about the characters just by having them crash on a deserted island, except to make it last six seasons, they had to have a reason why they wouldn't be rescued. So they obviously started making stuff up as they went along.

For what it's worth, I mostly enjoyed the series and knew that the finale would disappoint those of us hoping for answers. But then, after a pretty good couple of hours they ended up going for the "and they all lived happily ever after in heaven" ending. That was insult to injury.

I've got another question

How the **** does a man turn into a smoke monster?

if you watched lost for 5 seasons and 16 episodes and expected mass answers in the finale then...

Exactly the reason I don't mind the rest were not answered in the finale.

The answers are as good as they could be. What more did you want, a scientific text book?

It is part sci-fi, part fantasy television show. We have a smoke monster who can take the form of any dead human (which I assume you 'buy'), for goodness' sake.

They did say for a long time before the finale that Lost was a character driven show and they were going to do justice to them and finish telling their stories. I personally rathered that, that connection that I felt for these characters over 6 years was justified in the finale when I blubbered like a bloody girl.

I wasn't expecting a tonne of answers, and if I was I prob wouldve been disappointed in half of them. I'm happy that they have left it upto me to look through as many Internet sites, and read as many articles as I can to help
me form my own opinion about what the island really is and it's mysterious. This just means for me that even though the show has finished, it will continue on in some way.

also i will bet anyone $1000 that some of that extra 20 mins they couldnt fit in, was that back in season 5, Juliet was shooting at Miles, Richard and possible Frank on the outrigger
Not sure if it will be included, but I reckon it'll be other Ajira survivors.

Therefore I am glad then that the finale didn't answer the rest.

I could buy all of it if they explained what the island was. You can't just say "this island makes a bunch of weird shit happen" and then not reveal what the island is. Even worse is that they made a lot of things seem like they would be discovered if we just kept tuning in, but then they just dropped them and moved onto something else. Walt being a prime example. He just disappears from the story.

Like I said, I enjoyed Lost enough to keep watching. I just found the ending to be a cop out. Once the warm fuzzy feeling of all the old characters coming back and hugging each other fades, I reckon some of you might feel the same.

A vague level of plausibility would have been nice, which most sci-fi shows do provide.

The entire timeless purgatory alternate dimension angle in the final season for the sole purpose of a cheesy finale was a pathetic cop out.

I do have a bit of that, no doubt. I would love to know the answer for everything and have it based on science and reality. I spent hours across six years reading Lostpedia every single week trying to find out more. But it is a sci-fi and fantasy television show.

What is the island? That is one of the strangest questions I think I've ever heard asked and definitely not one that I have ever pondered.

If you don't like the alternate timeline, what do you think about the story if you forget about that arc and just think of the original timeline and it's finale?

Fruit...I have seen lots of references today to Walt.

My understanding is that the producers boxed themselves into a corner by casting a 12 yr old over a 6 year-season time period when the real LOST time was measured in 100's of days.

So rather than have an 18 yr old trying to play a 12 yr old they wrote him out.

Locke did catch up with Walt in S05. Did you see that ep Ranger?

I take your point about feeding us along to keep tuning in and many dropped off, especially paint by numbers Australian audiences, that saw the show boxed off to 11pm for some seasons.

That's the irony in it all...everyone that didnt give a shit here or in the new US now has opinion on 2.5 hours of 110 odd hours.

Gaso

ps HEY COXY...have you seen it mate or are you waiting til Friday still?

hahahaha

pretty fired up about this likka

really?? ive asked it plenty

also, and i'll probably be on my own here, i loved the fact that the writers blatantly lied for years saying "they are not dead"

Seriously? That's the main question, IMO. If they'd crash landed on a regular island, none of it would have happened. This island was special. Why? What did it represent?

They weren't.

And what more do you want to know about what the island is?

It is a special island. That has special properties and special beings. And can move.

There can be no scientific or pseudo-scientific explanation for that.

thats where im at as well

also, its probably been mentioned along the way somewhere, but if anyone wants that "what the **** is going on" LOST feeling, everyone needs to check out THE PRISONER, 60s show, light years ahead of its time

ps HEY COXY...have you seen it mate or are you waiting til Friday still?

I've seen it, I was going to wait til Friday after my exams but I realised that it would be almost impossible to not be spoiled so I watched it this afternoon

Fair enough but they could have written him out while also explaining his "specialness"

Locke did catch up with Walt in S05. Did you see that ep Ranger?

I did (saw them all) but don't remember anything being explained.

I take your point about feeding us along to keep tuning in and many dropped off, especially paint by numbers Australian audiences, that saw the show boxed off to 11pm for some seasons.

I watched most episodes as soon as they became available on thepiratebay (thank you eztv). It's fair enough that they keep people watching with the promise of revealing more of what's happening. That's why it's insulting to those people who stuck around for six years to leave so much unexplained.
