if it aint broke, don't fix it.
But it's nothing time and experience won't fix.We're 1-10. Something's broke.

There are exceptions, it's not a hard and fast rule. McCleod is an example of the rule, won two Norm Smiths playing off a HBF.Why dosnt Judd and Ablett play HBF?

Mcleod was a midfielder/HFF when he won his norm smiths, and in 2001 when he should have won the brownlow.
As for lids he is our Goddard, but Goddard isn't a HBF he is a pure utility, he played forward and midfield on Friday night and when we made a charge in the 3rd he went to the backline. With Connors back in the side I would like to lids go forward and help out jack, rotating thru the midfield. Send tambling, Connors and Newman back as our running HBs.
Hodge plays HB because hawks lack good defenders and a somebody to run the show. Gibbs it's more because he is a squib. These to also lack the extreme pace that lids has which means they can get exposed in the midfield where as they have time to react to the play at HB and use their superior football brains to get to the ball.
Deledio is certainly an exceptional HBF and has been performing very well back there, but we are completely lacking in quality outside mids, whereas we have plenty of HBFs in Newman, Connors, Webberley and Tambling, with McMahon still on the list as well, with Dea and ORLY developing.
Not to mention that even on the HBF, Deledio still does his best work well forward of the defensive 50. With our forward line problems and lack of quality delivery, Deledio is the player we most need kicking it inside 50 to hit up a target or put it through the big sticks. He's also a genuine marking target which with our shocking spread of goalkickers is incredibly valuable.
For mine, I'd use him like a midfield-centric Goddard - play him in different positions depending on where he is needed, but mainly through the midfield which is where our biggest deficiency is.
I'll rephrase it then. If he aint broke, don't fix it.
I don't think it's settling for something less. If a player is playing well in a certain spot, why move him? The midfield has been going nicely without and when we get Jackson and Foley back, it will be fine.Deledio has proved he can play better and influence games more through the midfield (see last half of 2009) so why settle for something less? I'd be seriously disappointed if Hardwick leaves Deledio up back when Connors comes back this week and joins Webberly, Newman, etc.
The reason being is the backline is where your attacks start from and to start those attacks you need your quality ball users down there.
So personally I would like to see him stay at HB, as I don't think we've missed him that much in the middle. With Cotchin Martin Jackson Tuck & Foley all capable of winning contested possession

I remember the other week when were struggling (think it was the Essendon match). Lids was stuck up back and it was frustrating watching then he seemed to get moved into the midfield for a quarter and the whole match turned. He set up goal after goal.
We already have Newman for the Goddard/Hodge roll, he has the accuracy and penetrating kick to get us out of trouble. Deledio should be in the middle taking it into our 50 creating goals not taking it out of the oppositions 50.
