Re: Intra Club Today

Reckon if this rain continues it'll be cancelled.... hopefully rescheduled to tomorrow so more can go !!!! no point of running out in this weather....

And before anyone says anything I'm not soft....and yours Pies having nothing to gain from it - really

We aren't Carlton.

I laughed....you idiot :D:thumbsu:

I snuck down to Gosch's Paddock for a bit of a sneak peak at how the boys are tracking.

  • It was quite damp and slippery with a few passing showers. Affected the game style/skills a bit.
  • Dids, Nate Brown and Leon were nowhere to be seen.
  • Dale spent a bit of time at half back and had a VERY good game, sublime skills and pace.
  • Ben Sinclair enjoys wet weather footy.
  • Josh Thomas is short but has a ripping build for hard footy already.
  • The Krak played in the guts and was awesome at the stoppages. His work in traffic was utterly sublime. Snagged 4. BOG.
  • Taz spent the whole game in defence.
  • Harry O was flying and in to absolutely everything like a toddler in a candy store. Tried to do a bit too much on occasion. Electric rebounding from hb.
  • Ben Reid has the best field kick at the club. Full stop. Simply amazing. Looked very strong and fit. Played on Clokey and won the battle in terms of both strength and positioning. It was more of a tick for him than a negative for Trav.
  • The conditions and delivery both worked against Trav. Looks in great shape and doesn't appear to be carrying anything extra. Worked hard and was unusually vocal.
  • Heath Shaw was very vocal (as per normal) and tough on the new kids, not letting them get away with a thing and letting them know quite openly if they did something wrong.
  • Electric small fwd Kirk Ugle didn't get a ton of ball, but looked very dangerous when he got anywhere near it. Looked likely.
  • The surprise of the day for me was Cam Wood out-performing Darren Jolly at ball ups. He dominated in the ruck, but Jolly did far better around the ground.
  • There were a lot of unrecognisable faces. Was the VFL squad playing??

Great to hear it went so well, but then every other teams intra club matches went great as well, but of course it's February and everybody is flying at this time of the year. Gee besides someone who gets injured, you never hear of anyone having a crap pre season now do you?

Hey guys was stoked to read Krak dominated. I really wish him all the best. Always liked him and was really happy he got a 2nd chance.

Are you guys expecting him to line up in rd1?

I think he'll be in the starting line up lock him into your DT or SC.

Krakeour was unbelievable and he should be part of our centre square and stoppage set-up , he just dominates stop plays.

I also thought Cloke outbodied Reid a few times to take an easy grab.

Tarrant quelled Dawes , who didn't get much of a sniff , but there was no real delivery to him or one on one contests.

Ball looked good and Perham did some nice things down forward.

Jye Bolton also had a strong second half.

Injuries aside, he'll definitely be playing round 1.

Its the time of the year for optimism Grades75! That being said, I go every week like a lot of you and found it tough to pick out who was who a lot of the time due to no-numbers (black/blue tops), no commentary and watching from right on ground level rather than a slightly elevated position.

The one thing that was poor across the board was goal kicking... surprise surprise!

Thanks for the reports all.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Keep them coming, one week out from our first real hitout and it is always interesting to see who is "flying" this time of year.

Other teams really must be worried about Collingwood, not only were we always going to improve internally, we go and get Krakouer and Tarrant, 2 ready made footballers who would stroll into any teams best 22.

Good times ahead this season.:)

Well, I made the decision to head in to Gosch's paddock, hoping for better weather there than where I was coming from, and as I got closer to Richmond, I noticed the rain abating. The rain was mostly obedient to my desires, aside from maybe a couple of sprinkles in the second half.

I got to watch them warming up, as well as seeing the whole game, which was good, and I'll just go through some player by player observations, as giving a match report is too difficult with the number of players that it's impossible to recognise from across the field without numbers.

They were using the NAB Cup rules, including the "last touched out of bounds" free kick, and for the most part, they were pretty good at keeping the ball in, despite still using the boundary line heavily, as we tend to do.

1 - Davis, Leon - Didn't play

2 - Tarrant, Chris - Looked good. Played pretty much entirely around CHB, and was easy to spot as he was wearing full length tights. Moved well, competed well. I think we all know what to expect with Taz.

3 - McCarthy, John - I saw him on the sidelines, but I couldn't say for certain whether he took part, or if he did anything of interest.

4 - Didak, Alan - Didn't play.

5 - Maxwell, Nick - See Alan Didak

6 - Goldsack, Tyson - The Herald Sun said he was absent, but I saw him run off the ground in the first half, so he definitely played a little.

7 - Krakouer, Andrew - Get down to the Lexus centre, get yourself a brand new 2011 Premiers jumper, and slap the #7 on the back, because Krakouer is going to be a real star for us. He's not super quick, but he's evasive, his skills are immaculate, and he has a knack for getting his hands on the ball in traffic. All talk about him being used as a sub should stop now, because he's starting 18 material on what I saw today.

8 - O'Brien, Harry - Harry was Harry at his best. Intense, hard working, good skills. Maybe pushed up the ground a little more than in the past, but basically what we've come to expect from Harry.

10 - Pendlebury, Scott - They talk about some players having an extra gear... Well Pendles doesn't have a gearbox. He stays at the exact same pace at all times, and he changes the speed of the world around him. I imagine when Pendles drives, cars just conveniently change out of his lane in front of him, and he gets every green light wherever he's going. Needless to say, he's a star.

11 - Blair, Jarryd - Jarryd Blair does have a gearbox, and it's always stuck full thrust. Good workrate, good clearance work, good linking up. He looks determined not to be the one who loses his spot in the side to Krakouer.

12 - Ball, Luke - He's the most professional player we've had at the club since Paul Licuria retired. He keeps himself in great condition, works his arse off, and the results show.

13 - Thomas, Dale - Sounds obvious, but he really knows what he's doing out there. People think of the Didak's and Pendlebury's as those with great footy brains, but Daisy's ability to sprint for 100m to get to a position that the ball isn't anywhere near, and then end up with it in a mile of space is just uncanny. He's also bulked up significantly. He's got real definition in his arms, and his legs don't look so spindly any more.

14 - Rounds, Luke - He was out there, but I didn't notice too much of what he did. That's not to say he didn't do much, just that the players were hard to tell apart at times.

15 - Brown, Leigh - Usual bullocking stuff from Leigh. He obviously comes into his own when there are opposition players to flatten, but he looks in solid shape.

16 - Brown, Nathan - Didn't play.

17 - Beams, Dayne - Didn't play.

18 - Jolly, Darren - Battled with Wood in the ruck for the vast majority of the game, and was reasonably solid. One thing I noticed with both ruckmen was how much of a concerted effort the players put in to provide easy, clear options for them when they get the ball.

19 - Wood, Cameron - He was quite competitive with Jolly in the tapwork, but just doesn't get involved around the ground.

20 - Reid, Ben - This might be high praise, but he is becoming a Clement-like attacking weapon out of the backline. He struggled at times body-on-body with Travis Cloke, but every defender in the AFL does as well, and Reid doesn't have to play on him in the real deal.

21 - Wellingham, Sharrod - Started out like a house on fire, kicking a goal in the first minute, and getting plenty of it early. Drifted in and out a bit after that. Very talkative out there though.

22 - Sidebottom, Steele - Spent a lot of the game starting in the middle at centre bounces, and seems to always get involved in the play when around a stoppage. Definitely looks ready for more midfield time this year.

23 - Keeffe, Lachlan - If he was 195cm, we'd all be going nuts over how promising he looks as a key defender. If he was 195cm, he'd move well for that height, uses the ball well, reads the play and gets involved. The fact that he's 9cm taller than that is just gravy.

24 - Thomas, Josh - I don't know that he played, but if he did, I didn't notice him.

25 - Young, Thomas - Definitely played. He's hard to miss. Looked good coming off half back, but will obviously struggle to find a spot there. Should put pressure on our backs though, and could provide injury cover.

26 - Johnson, Ben - Was a runner.

27 - Buckley, Simon - Played and did very little, from what I saw.

28 - Sinclair, Ben - I definitely noticed him a few times, particularly with a few examples of excellent disposal.

29 - Ceglar, Jonathon - Was walking around the sidelines, but didn't play.

30 - Macaffer, Brent - Played, looked in good nick, had no strapping on. No sign of injury at all for the Caff, which is good, considering he hasn't trained much.

31 - Dawes, Chris - Did his job. Presented up forward and got involved. Nothing noteworthy from Dawes, good or bad.

32 - Cloke, Travis - The Trav we've come to know and love. Workrate high, too strong for his man in one-on-ones, takes a great grab... And the kicking is hit or miss.

33 - Dick, Brad - Quite sure he didn't play.

34 - Toovey, Alan - Not sure if he played or not. I never saw him on the sidelines, and I was right near the bench, so I'm inclined to think he didn't.

35 - Fasolo, Alex - Looks like he could go right now if we needed him to. Presented well, has a good body for a young kid, pretty solid skills and a nice pair of hands.

36 - Swan, Dane - The best accumulator in the business. No question. In top nick.

37 - Ugle, Kirk - Looked quite lively out there. Kicked a nice crumbers goal, and generally looked good pressuring up forward. He's officially the palest indigenous player in AFL history.

38 - Reed, Scott - I get the feeling he's a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none. Doesn't have any major flaws, but I don't know where I'd see him at AFL level.

39 - Shaw, Heath - He's Heath Shaw. He doesn't know how to take it easy, and today was no exception. Is ready for the season to start, no question.

40 - Seedsman, Paul - He was amongst it a little. Extremely skinny, but has good skills. Definitely the member of our team most likely to be in a retro 80s New Romantics cover band.

41 - Farmer, Daniel - Once I realised who he was, I noticed him a fair bit. Struggled with the pace of the game a little, I think, but has plenty to work with.

43 - Stubbs, Trent - If he is the blond half forward that I was pretty sure he was, then he's got a hell of a build for a NSW kid drafted with the 77th pick. Looks like a dynamic version of Macaffer. Could be a steal, if he can get his workrate to where Macaffer has.

44 - Gordon, Thomas - I think he might have been playing up forward, and potentially even kicked a goal, but I'm not sure.

45 - Hunter, Thomas - I don't think he played, but I couldn't be certain.

46 - Reilly, Declan - He got shaded by Lachlan Keeffe in the first half before Keeffe moved onto Leigh Brown, but he's certainly tall and he moves well, so he's got that to work with. I think he may have taken a pretty nice one handed mark and goal though - I couldn't tell who it was, but it was impressive if it was him. (Someone over at EB&W has suggested it was Perham, which could be true)

47 - Perham, Jack - Tried hard, and got involved in a lot of contests in the air and at ground level. Drew praise from Anthony Rocca on the sidelines for his second efforts. Has the craziest Eddie Munster-style widow's peak.

48 - Bolton, Jye - Got amongst it a fair bit. There's definitely a bit of nous and hard work in this kid. I'm not sure if the talent is there, but I bet he'll get the best out of himself.

49 - Cribbin, Paul - His disposal was okay, but looked pretty shaky when he tried to bounce the ball. He's a work in progress, obviously.

50 - McNamara, Shae - Quite sure he didn't play.

Very impressed with Kraka, I had some doubt about him bringing his great WAFL form in to the AFL but he proved me wrong, if he cant dominate an intra club match like that then I am sure he will be a good player in the 22 during the season.

Re: Intra Club Today

Just got back too & I agree Krak looked really good, seems to know where the ball will be, is evasive & kicked a few goals.

Pendles was influential & covered the ground well.

Sidey was good in traffic, good vision & used the ball nicely.

Wellingham used his pace well, but his goal kicking really lacks confidence.

Keefe moves really nicely for a big bloke. A couple of good spoils when the ball came in high.

I actually thought Taz was mostly matched up on Dawes & that Taz kept him pretty quiet.

I was impressed again with Tom Young, a lot of potential for a young, inexperienced NSW bloke.

I thought Josh Thomas did some nice things too (although I do tend to get him & Sinclair confused a bit, so not 100% certain).

Caff seemed to move pretty freely. I'm pretty sure S Buckley was matched up on him at one stage & Caff out-led/marked him a couple of times.

Harry went for a few gallops off the backline & through the centre, which I always like to see.

Heater was leading the backline in Maxy's absence.

Wood competed well in the ruck, drifting forward to make himself dangerous a couple of times. Jolly's still well ahead though IMO.

Daisy ran hard & was very vocal, both calling for the ball & directing play.

That's about all I can recall at this stage, I was there with my 1 year old, so I didn't have 100% focus on the footy.

I was up the Swan St end, standing next to the father of Tom Sundberg, the VFL listed player. I had an interesting chat with him & he told me that Licca has been acting as a bit of a mentor for Tom, developing his strength & endurance. He said that Bucks had spoken very encouragingly with Tom, about where his development is at. He said Tom was close to being rookie listed by the Pies this year & had encouraged him to remain on their VFL list, to continue his development. Also said that Tarks was coaching well, a very good communicator, more intensity than Gavin Brown.

Edit: It was quite wet & slippery out there, the rain fell quite a few times during the match. With that in mind, I thought the skills were quite reasonable given the wet conditions.

Hi Guys, just a question for those that attended.
Who was the kid playing CHF while Perham was at FF. He kicked a couple of goals for the blue team and looked good but no one around me had any idea who he was. (short cropped hair).

Cheers.
