Well done Swarta!

It's a big shame Nannes isn't representing Holland again, is he ineligible due to representing Australia? If he is, they should change the rule, a team with Cooper, Swart, Ten Doechate (sp?) and Nannes would cause a few problems playing against the bigger teams!

"Although Swart is due to face a tribunal hearing on Wednesday evening over a violent confrontation during a recent WACA grade game, any penalty will not affect his participation in the World Cup."

"The right-hander from Joondalup was charged with a level four offence for assaulting a Bayswater-Morley opponent, which carries a suspension of up to five matches or even a life ban if deemed serious enough".

Assaulting an opponent? If he is found guilty, why should he be able to play international cricket? That's crazy.

same thing happened with dave warner. found guilty, suspended for three grade matches but was playing the next weekend for NSW.

basically says state players can come back act like absolute fruitloops and not have to deal with the consequence.

i wonder why Swart wasn't selected originally. I would've imagine if someone was good enough to get selected for WA they'd get a guersney for Holland.

yeah it seems players from associate countries can switch to the big boys at will but switching from a major to an associate? have fun waiting! still he was pretty useful in those 5 or so t20's for us!

is it four years you've gotta wait after representing a test nation till you can rep an associate nation?? that's far too long. two is what it should be.

Swart originally declined the chance to play for Holland
at the world cup because he thought he'd be playing for WA during the world cup period. Since then his been told his not in WA plans for the rest of the season and beyond, hence why there playing the kids.

Also the 4 year wait to play for a minor team after playing for a test nation is a bit steep, Nannes basically won't play again for the Dutch

should probably be two years each way. definitely morgan and nannes shouldn't be playing for ireland and holland and then two months later be playing for england and australia.

hmmmmmm i've got no probls with a guy playing for an associate nation and then turning out for a test nation straight away because it's like an elevation from a state team to the national team really. also having a two year gap will discourage guys from playing for associate nations whereas this is something that should be encouraged - IMO the benefit of having one or two guys who play first class cricket in a test nation within their team far outweighs the negative of withholding spots from guys within that associate nation.

i'd like to not have guys representing two international teams like they do in soccer, but unfortunately cricket doesn't have the luxury because the drop of in quality of teams after about 13 or 14 is very significant, and even 9 to 12 struggle to be competitive. i'm a massive believer in doing everything to improve the quality of cricket is those nations ranked from about 11 to 20 (and then in turn in the future improving those beyond them) but it's a long long road and probably be long after everyone on this forum is dead that we have 20 genuine test match teams. but that is something cricket should strive for, and for mine the full member test nations should be doing everything they can to help.

but i would throw in a 12 month waiting period before they can play against their own associate nation. it would be a bit redicolous is australia was playing a 3-match ODI series against Netherlands or Ireland and after a spate of injuries rather than fly someone over they just called up Tom Cooper, Dirk Nannes or Trent Johnston. Would seem a silly if someone played in both teams in a ODI series.
