We should throw everything at him to be mark thompson type adviser as he is at essesdon, would make a great team if possible. Whats ur thoughts?

Would love to see this. Malthouse as assistant with Hardwick would be amazing. Mick is one of if not the best coach of the last 5-10 years, I dont think it would happen but let's face it. Once a tiger, always a tiger:thumbsu:

The only merit to this is that Buckley looks like a pretty hard headed bloke with a bit of ego who might feel that he is above taking advise from someone else and wants to do it his way.

Takes a big ego to demand he takes over regardless of Malthouses' performance.

If Malthouse felt that he would be pushed to the back then that would be hard to handle and perhaps a coach who was going to empower him a little more may be enticing.

Dont know what the relationship is between Malthouse and Buckley. You would think Malthouse would find it hard to support the bloke who has shafted him.

Help lift a club rather than support the bloke who shafted you reaping the rewards for your years of work.

i guess it'll be a risk we have to take then

Would make a great team. Money does talk all languages!

In the post game tv interview and press conference Mick showed plenty of respect and praise for our young team. Funnily Dimma said at quarter time that if we can get the game on our terms it would translate onto the scoreboard, Leigh choffed at this saying it was "very optimistic coaching". MM after the game had this to say: "They've got a very young side that will get better and when they get momentum, or it shifts their way, they can be a very damaging side". It feels good to know that someone like Mick can acknowledge where we are heading.

During the broadcast Bruce claimed that Mick had said if he could have any young player in the competition at the moment it would be Dusty. He also said he has seen the tigers live three games this season, now i know all coaches make a habit of going to opposition games but all Richmond games this season?

I like the idea of having Mick around the club but on the same token i think hes more of an all or nothing coach, second fiddle isnt for him. Ive got a bad feeling that he will unfortunately end up at Carlton. With the top job likely to open up, they have a nice list to work with that in the right hands can be succesful.

I wouln't mind seeing Mick back @ Punt rd either but I think your right about him being an all or nothing kinda guy. But I suppose we can dream huh.

I like hardwick, i don't think he is as good as malthouse but thats only due to experience IMO, if we stick with him i feel like he has the potential to become a great and remembered coach..........

Would like to see him in development or something. Dunno if he would do that though because he could easily walk into about 3 or so clubs right now and become head coach.

mick is going to be director of coaching not an assistant to bucks. i thought thompson is in a similar position but for whatever reason he's having a more hands on role.

and im not sure if Hardwick would like someone like mick in his shadows, maybe hird is open to the idea as he hasnt got coaching experience whereas hardwick's been in the game for over a year, and bucks has been an assistant for a couple of years.

its really hard to imagine mick not having a senior coaching role next year.

Not too long ago (last couple of months) I think I read an article where Eddie was asked about Mick coaching elsewhere next year. To which Eddie replied something along the lines of: "Absolutely not, Mick has a contract with us and we want him to honour it".

I'm not sure how it works, perhaps if Collingwood let him go he can, but I'd think that if Malthouse has a contract with Collingwood he has to honour it, I don't think he can just bugger off and coach someone else.

The Eagles are into him in a massive way. Would not surprise me to see him head back west.

would love to think that is true but the only occasion i have seen where blood was truly thicker than water was with bomber thompson, and I applauded him for that

so he came back to Victoria for family reasons then now after two grandchildren come along you reckon he will up and leave back to other side of the country...a Bilion to One of that happening...i really couldn't see him leaving Collingwood until retirement where he will probably bob up in the media

Tigers fans even considering this as possible are delusional.

Most likely I think is that he will be a senior coach. Less likely than that is he will have the director role at the Pies. A billion times less likely is director role at any other club!

Yep!

You would expect Benny Gale to have already begun the process.:D

I also was a bit surprised at how much Mick spoke about Richmond during the press conference, was very keen to talk about how good we were looking. I know it is a once in a opportunity but I still dont think it would be a good idea to get Mick, very happy with the way things are going under Hardwick and I dont think he would want someone overlooking everything he does, it would also cost us a shit load of money to secure Mick.

Malthouse will be coaching next year.

Malthouse will be director of coaching next year. Thought I'd point out your mistake there tugga. :p

He also said he has seen the tigers live three games this season, now i know all coaches make a habit of going to opposition games but all Richmond games this season?

You make it sound like he has just gone out of his way to turn up and watch Richmond because he has nothing better to do.

Mick works for SEN too. You guys have thus far played one Thurs night match where Mick was providing special comments for SEN, another Friday nighter where Mick again was working for SEN and then a Saturday night match where we had already played the night before so as an opposition coach you scout your upcoming opposition that week in advance. So really, he went and watched Richmond once, like ALL AFL coaches do in the lead up to when they play them. The other two times was simply coincidence that Richmond played on the nights Mick happened to be fulfilling his obligations to SEN.

The Eagles are into him in a massive way. Would not surprise me to see him head back west.

This will not happen. You can rule out any interstate move.

IF he is to coach elsewhere next season it will be in Victoria.

Fwiw, I expect him to remain at Collingwood but time will tell.

If MM does start his role as director of coaching, it will be short lived. It's not in his blood. He's a coach.
Iwouldnot rule him out of coaching Melbourne or Carlton next year. He won't stay in the fabricated role Collingwood have made for him for long if at all.
Just my opinion though. Means nothing in the big scheme of things.

yeah i actually think he will remain at collingwood next year, however id bank on him moving on the year after, hopefully hardwick has us going places, if not mick as head coach would be the way to go.

I'd suggest a couple of those would be due to his commentary commitments with SEN. Pretty sure he did the season opener v Carlton, probably the Saints game also (since he mainly does Fri nights with SEN). Then he would've been at the Hawks game since they were playing us the following week.

Edit: I see dt13 already pointed this out.
