it should be Tigers Vs Dogs i reckon

two large footy clubs in Melbourne goin at it

or hawks

Blues and Hawks have the paper in on this one already.

I just can't see why the AFL are still sitting on their hands on this issue.
Trying to be everything to everyone.

As was suggested, let's set it to an evening match to start. No harm done and everyone can fill their guts out with food and chocolate in the meantime without really knwoing as to why they are doing so.

God, I hate tradition for the sake of tradition

Geelong v. Hawthorn got 78,000 on a semi-public holiday (a lot of shops were still open). A Good Friday game would possibly be bigger due to virtually nothing else being open and no extra traffic on the highway/West Gate. The only thing it would be competing against is the cinemas.

This is a great point. Honestly i was bored out of my brain good friday. And i went to the city in search of some red meat and the city was empty which was pleasing.

I don't see any relationship between someone playing on Good Friday, and Anzac day. On a normal easter weekend there are 5 days for games to be spread across. That gives ample opportunity for clubs to have stand alone match ups. They just need to be united and have a strong case for the AFL so that it can't be refused.

I agree. So why would it cheapen the ANZAC Day fixture to have a game on Easter Friday?

Geographically North Melbourne and Carlton are either side of the Royal Childrens Hospital.

You know, because Essendon and Richmond "wear the dreamtime colours" and Collingwood and Essendon both fought against the Ottoman Empire while the other clubs sat home.

We also had a little bit to do with Fridays a while ago if I recall.

Great Idea.

The appeal goes all day so to put the footy in the middle or the end of it and base it around the appeal wouldn't take anything away from it.

It seems strange that the AFL still refuse to play a game or 2 on Good Friday the idea of offending any religious sector of society with a game of Football is archaic for mine. There must be someone quite powerful still parking the bus on this one.

If they use the argument that is a family day and people go away then there is only one way to find out...trial it and let the people decide.

I think people want footy on Good Friday and the AFL should have a 1 year litmus test. Options being

Melbourne v North Melbourne (Ave attendance last 3 yrs @MCG = 26,231)
Melbourne v Western Bulldogs (Ave attendance last 3 yrs @MCG = 33,848)
North Melbourne v Western Bulldogs (Ave attendance last 3 yrs @MCG = 32,965)

Play any of these combinations and let the people of Victoria vote with their feet. I bet that a crowd of 50,000+ will turn up and although there will be a financial hit by not playing a big Melbourne club it would prove if people want footy on Good Friday. I would hazard to guess that ratings would be great also as there is nothing to watch on Good Friday.

I don't mind the Idea of Sydney v GWS or Brisbane v GCS for the night game, take the punt and get some buzz around those 2 local derby's.
