Tried to get into the spirit of St Pats day yesterday by drinking this. I could hardly down a can due to its unique taste and flavour. This drink has no appeal to me and i am wondering how anyone can possibly like it for a prolonged period?

Is anyone an avid Guinness drinker and if so what factors draw you to like it?

I am a big Guinness drinker.

Did you drink from a can?

Never drink Guinness from a can. It's meant to be drunk from a pint glass.

Best way to drink Guinness is from the tap at a pub.

For home drinking.
Buy your cans of Guinness and chill a pint glass. You will use two cans of Guinness. One kept at room temperature and the other chilled.

Take out the chilled pint glass and half fill it with the chilled can. Fill up the rest of the glass with the room temp can. Wait a few minutes and enjoy.

You know I always avoided the stuff because I remember not liking it when I tried it once 10 years ago. Anyway, I got on it for st pat's day and really enjoyed it. Ended up having 4 or 5 pints. Going to Belfast next week, so good timing...

i did not know this.

i will give it another go asap, i am actually keen to see how good this drink can be:thumbsu:

Had a Guinness on Thursday night, was awful.

Lager temperature, poured from a can into a pint glass on a 20 degree Perth evening - yuck.

Guinness should be served at 6 degrees Celsius and poured from a tap into a room temperature pint glass using the double-pour method. Did this at the Storehouse in Dublin (and passed the test with flying colours:)) and the end result was orders of magnitude better than pouring a cold can into a glass in Perth.

Maybe it's better on a cold night if served from a pub that knows what its doing, but from all reports I've heard from regular drinkers Guinness does not travel well.

hahaha same.

About ten years ago I had a glass and it was gross so avoided it but was in LA on st.Pattys day and thought ah why not and it was very nice!!

Guinness is great and is one of my staples. Smooth distinct and a full meal in a pint.

Agreed you need to serve it chilled with proper double pouring. Also it is brewed (like other big brands) in many countries now so ingredients and quality may slightly differ.

Was actually in Dublin for Paddys Day and the Guinness there & in particular at the Storehouse was better. Nothing like seeing the perfect cascade of the froth head flowing up as it sets.

Guinness, out of can = Mistake

To be honest, even Guinness at pubs out of a tap is not the same as what you will get out of a tap in Ireland. Have heard it mentioned before, Guinness does not travel.

But, failing being in Ireland, if you want the best pint you can get, then you need to find a pub that has a bartender that knows how to pour it.

Many a pint of Guinness is ruined (especially on St Pattys day), as you have untrained staff just throwing it onto the glass..

When right, pure nectar of the gods.

I normally don't drink Guinness, ocassionally I have it mixed with coke though. I prefer lighter dark beers like Newcys :)
