Aka constantly does stuff no other player would dare do. He can't help but shut his greek mouth

Whats being Greek got to do with this? For starters, he's of Canadian/Lithuanian roots, but regardless why is relevant to bag someone (albeit he is a dick) and make reference to their heritage (although, last time i checked he was an Aussie)? racist much?

Few reasons. First of all they're illegal.
They can be habit forming
They can be performance enhancing
They can be performance inhibiting
They can be downright dangerous
They require you to deal with criminals (unless you grow your own)
The players are being paid a very high wage for essentially a part time job and are expected to maintain peak fitness and not take unnecessary risks.
They can lead to dangerous behaviour

Among others...

Ahhh, Mr "I have the right to interfere in other people's lives" strikes again.

Alcohol is pretty much the same for all of those, except for the legality issue.

Why don't we install GPS units in all their cars while we are at it to make sure they don't speed?

Possibly the thing that bothers me most is that its a stupid thing to do if you're an AFL player. I for one would love to have the lifestyle of even a middling AFL footballer and they take a huge gamble with that. I dont know if that shows disrespect, contempt, stupidity or just a lack of judgement. you're a long time retired and can do what you like later in life (im looking at you G Abblett Snr)

Absolutely in agreement with you there. It's a massive gamble these guys take if they do enjoy drugs recreationally and it is a little disrespectful given they're paid a lot to perform on-field which ostensibly means keeping themselves in tip-top shape. I do think it's unrealistic, though, to expect people 18-30, especially the younger guys, not to partake a little. It's just the time in people's lives where they experiment and find out who they are and I can see that being a pretty difficult thing to weigh up against your career as an AFL player, the constant media attention, etc.

As for Gary Ablett Snr, I wouldn't be using him as any kind of guide for what people should do, haha.

Ok so where are your photos?
Ah, the old "pics or it didn't happen" adage.

Not that I have to explain myself to you, but firstly, I had a window of only around 30 seconds, in which my thought process was "that's xxxx!!" *insert weird feeling about seeing famous individual* , and then "oh shit, he's completely off his face, and he isn't drunk", so you'll understand why I didn't instantly think to whip out my phone.
But more to the point is that taking someone's photo without their permission is something I don't agree with at the best of times, let alone when they're in such a "vulnerable" state and taking said photo could really affect them. If someone wants to indulge in particular things, it isn't my business, and well known identities cop enough crap from the public at large as it is.

Don't understand why people get so offended when it comes to issues like this. Innocent until proven guilty. When it is 100% known hes had 3 strikes, then talk about it. Untill then for all we know he isn't even on a strike.

Any more libellous statements about Franklin?

I'm sure his lawyer will have fun with this thread in the morning !
Only a Hawks legal would consider suing internet bozos...

I'm very passionate about the content of this post. The intentions for the AFL not to follow WADA are very cynical.

That's the better part.

WADA doesn't implement a "strike policy".
WADA doesn't give athlete's three chances after positive tests .... and they certainly don't leave the last strike up to the discretion of a physician, a strikes a strike, and the testing isn't administered by the governing body of the sport either.
Independent testing = no interference.
There's a reason WADA doesn't support it, and WADA covers every major sporting organisation on earth.

Also heard this rumour 2 weeks ago. Aker speaks his mind. Would not be surprised at all if this is true.

Biggest star in the game, also would not surprise me if the AFL is trying to hide it.

Its been well known that he is on 2 strikes.

Well known rumour that he is on 2 strikes. It was also a well known rumour that he was on 2 strikes 5 years ago, which would have expired by now

This rumour has been going on for years. Stupid people still like to indulge in it, despite there being no evidence. Not really news, but people on this site are pretty stupid. Meh.

God, Aker is sub-human.

What I dont understand is if they were so worried about him getting a third strike, why did they even bother testing him. If the reply is that its done independently then that would mean quite a few people would know this secret for a fact, and surely somebody with more credibility than Aker would have said something, and that the AFL doesn't have enough say in who they test, but enough sway to get these people to risk their careers on this conspiracy theory.

You dont get it do you? The AFL cant test the players out of season, unless the players agree to it. Therefore there is no policy unless agreed to by players. ASADA still test AFL players under WADA protocol. AFL is the only sport with 365 days testing.

What would you rather everyman and his dog getting high every off season or a policy that can atleast detect and help players with a problem.

So many people have heard he is on strikes. I have heard he is actually "fine" (my dad asked someone in the know) although the same guy said it was another Hawk who was in trouble earlier in his career (not naming names). Who knows?
Hope he plays this week and puts it all to rest
