Why do all swans flogs keep referring to the Bloods?

Pre 1909 the South Melbourne FC were nicknamed the "Bloods" for various reasons. This Sydney team has nothing in common with that South Melbourne club. This Sydney team may as well call themselves the Edelstons.

Wish we still had the good doctors money, apparently it all goes to Carlton now, so it might be a more fitting name for them

Pre 1982 the South melbourne football club also had the nickname 'The Swans' due to the large number of Western Australians playing in their ranks, as well as their traditional homeground being "The Lake". However, they were still called the bloods to respect time honoured traditions.

To cut a long story short, teams can nickname themselves whatever, flogbag

Pretty sure it was this flog that was responsible for bringing back the Bloods nickname.

"Feel the energy guys and if you love the footy and call the Swans the Bloods then you will have good karma into the afterlife and will get to hang out with me, Harry O and the Dalai Lama smoking bongs full of incense."

Back to you Basil and Hame.

No it wasn't, it was Stuey Maxfield as far as I know, but may well have been Paul Kelly before him

OP just mad that his club had a soulless culture built on nothing but arrogance and bradbury'ing their way to a premiership

Because the swan is an image of femininity. By calling themselves bloods they can pretend they are a masculine, tough and somewhat ferocious.

Never seen a ferocious swan in my life, though,

I do remember back in 95/96 before the SL war and the Swans rise. There was a big push to change their colours to green and black and to change the name to Raiders. The thinking was 2 fold. 1- The Swans werent "tough" enough and 2 that the conection to being a Melbourne club hurt their chances in Sydney. Still remember the terror putting 2 full pages for the push.

So you think we should just dump our 10,000 Melbourne members then?

No just decide what you are.. Every 5 secs up here we are getting "Sydneys team" etc when it clearly isnt. 50% Sydneys team maybe but the loyalties are still split to Melbourne. Sydney were and are the fall back position of the club.

Dude....their mascot is the Swan.

Easily the most pansy, girly and weak animal mascot you can have.

They were better off being the Sydney Meerkats. Much more fearsome.
Reduced to trolling a poor old mascot and team nickname. You obviously iether have too much time on your hands or nothing worth saying

We know who we are, just because you don't get it is no reason for us to change anything
