Just saw this written on a facebook page - AFL FREE AGENCY, TRADE, DRAFT...

ESSENDON: have committed to Joe Daniher with their first round pick, the bombers have also committed to Daniel Thompson, son of Mark.

The second part is news to me. Can sanybody confirm that this is true or is this not decided yet? Also if anybody can shed some light on Thompson the player? Hope we don't pick up a dud just because he has the name Thompson.

Well we obviously haven't. There is simply an assumption that a team ahead of us will nominate him, which will happen. We should have tanked harder to reduce that likelihood

Even if we are interested in picking him up, which doesn't sound likely, no way we have committed to him before the F/S bidding. Why would we, it just compromises the bidding process for us.
Only reason we have committed to Big Joe is to keep him out of the u17 mini-draft last year and keep Sydney's mitts off him.

I think there was a change to the F/S bidding process this year that makes it possible to pick the player up in the rookie draft if you declare that you are going to bid for them. If the rules were changed before last year we would currently have Dunnell on our list
