Touchy subject I know, I hate talking about it too.

Went across both today and was wondering why the Bolte doesn't have suicide barriers but the WestGate does. They are both as dangerous as each other. I'd hate for a death to happen on the Bolte before barriers are put up. Should be put up now IMO.

It sucks we have suck idiots running this country.

It wouldn't cost that much compared to other projects and is needed before a death happens. Maybe someone does need to jump off before something happens but tha ahold never happen.

Sucks that they spend billions on myki but won't pay for 500 meters of barriers.

Meh to be honest for doing it. Spending the cost of 'looking like they are doing something' by putting barriers up on the Bolte bridge on increased support services for helplines and anti-depression like Beyond Blue will have 10 if not 100 times the benefit for the same cost. Politicians have it right here (for a rare change).

Political pressure. To be blunt unless you put a fence around every train track, body of water, cliff face, large truck, car exhaust - you really aren't solving the problem, ie. the reason for suicide rather than the means to carry it out should have more resources put into it.

No one has thrown a kid from the Bolte bridge yet.
This is 100% it.

A hell of a lot of people jumped off the Westgate before the kid was thrown off but they never bothered with barriers. Media coverage+Helen Lovejoys=Pollies try to make it look like they're doing something.

Westgate Bridge has a clearance of 58m where as Bolte has a clearance of 25. My guess is that you have more chance of survival from 25m.

'No one has thrown a kid yet'
That wouldn't be suicide..

If you're talking just plain about suicide like said above - it's not solving the problem. If is someone committed to committing suicide; there is 100's of other ways to do it. Regardless though there should be barriers in general, not 'suicide' barriers.

I would say walking on the bolte bridge is near impossible and within minutes you will have one of those vicroad vans stop you and quiz you.

Bolte bridge has stunning views of Melbourne shame only cars are allowed on it.

I ran across the Bolte in the City Link run for the kids; a hell of a run up to the top from the West Gate but well worth the effort!
