Interesting that it was basically Mitch or Blake. So, despite all the nice things Watters said about Blake last year at several points, he wouldn't have been afraid to get rid of him for the sake of a big bodied defender.

Says alot.

Blake understand's the process, but you can't.
Every year some players will need to be delisted simply to comply with regulations. It doesn't mean the coach hates them or whatever. If anyone knows exactly who he is and how he fits in with the sceme of things it's Jason Blake.

Pretty sure he meant it in a complimentary way. The whole team over the individual thing. :thumbsu:

well, not alot of room for sentimentality.

I quite liked Grammy as a player, but it's got a bit sad that he can't accept it was all within his control.

"They gave me warnings"

"They say they gave me some help and maybe they did"

"St Kilda have had a few issues in the past"

He had been counselled by coach Scott Watters mid-year, told again he was on his last warning, and was still officially suspended from the club when his last indiscretion occurred.

Macca was on SEN this morning.
Sounded like some interesting stuff about rucking, but I was delivering kids to school so I mainly heard the madness in the back seat.
On the season ahead, he said something along the lines of " a lot of people dont think we are a chance of playing finals this year, and expectations are pretty low, so its a bit like we are getting a free swing "

I'll duck to the SEN site later and see if there is audio.

Gram actually sounds quite forthright, it's just the sub-editors have gotten carried away with the headlines.

I can only imagine it went something along the lines of
Jason's Girlfriend - "Jason , sleeve tatoo's are so hot "
Grammy - "Nah I dont like them much "
GF - "But jason they are just so sexy you should get one , maybe with my name on it"
Grammy - Ill think about it.
Some time later, " Well I got that Tattoo, look your name is on it"
"Thats nice, but I think we should break up "

Arrrghhh "SNAP"

Which bit?

That he was blindsided by the club?

That it's a private matter? (on twitter and through the courts o_O)

That it's just full blown lies?

St Kilda have had a few issues in the past?

Other clubs have said they wouldn't have done that?

These are his comments (not headlines).

If you read just the direct quotes, not the parts where Ralphy's spun his magic, his side makes sense. There's a chunk of denial going on and I'm not saying St Kilda probably weren't right to move him on, but he's told his side and hopefully that's that.

It actually reminded me of an article that came out when Aaron Fiora was delisted by the club. Fiz said things like, "Yep, I know I wasn't playing very well... yep, the club had given me plenty of warnings about my attitude... but they shouldn't have sacked me..." Well, what the hell else should they have done?

Just sounds like Gram wants to blame the club, irrespective of how responsibly they handled the whole situation.

That, and the Hun just can't resist trying to find some way - however flimsy - to rake our name through the mud.

You should see the actual rag!

Massive picture of Gram on the back with SAINTS SHOULD NOT HAVE SACKED ME

Puff piece on the filth with big pic of them training feverishly ... small column for Jack re-signing ...

Then another massive pic of Gram with "I DIDN'T KILL ANYONE"

Well, now I know what newspaper Tommy's reading...

He does have a shot at the Saints, can't beat around the bush and pretend he hasn't.

I often whack the club if I think it's due.

This is not one of those times, as a young woman supporting the club, I support the high standards it is attempting to hold up in regards to the respect and responsibility policies.

The club has had a battering in recent years, if he professes to love the Saints, and can't see how his behaviour was absolutely further damaging...he has more soul searching to do.

He says it was a private matter, I reckon it would be safe to guess who blurred the lines between home and work first.

thank god gram is not on our list anymore. i dont want bloke like him in his late twenties with that attitude mentoring the 18-20 year old kids

good riddance. the article shows exactly why gram was delisted. refuses to see the seriousness of the issue, take responsibility and change his ways

It clearly didn't effect his output at "work" as he played his best football in years at the end of year when the whole "incident" was going down. Never once did he not turn upto training, team meetings etc.

Whilst I support clubs actions, it really isn't a football issue, it was his private life. He should have known better, but hell he isn't the first and won't be last person it that will go through same thing. AFL players just have less leeway than "normal" people.

Of course he played his best football in ages, he was on his last warning?

At least it makes sense to me now why he was finally in the peak physical condition that we knew he was capable of, he had to be or it was the door.

Less leeway?

Just don't get the boo-hoo element here, we are all accountable for our actions, sometimes I think the leeway swings in the footballers favour rather than to their detriment like you're suggesting.

I think the police involvement is quite common in these kind of happenings, it's not because he was a 'footballer' that it escalated to this point, it's because he made choices.

I entirely agree he is in our best 18, makes it all the more annoying.

http://www.sen.com.au/display-article/McEvoy-No-interchange-cap/55678

St. Kilda ruckman Ben McEvoy has weighed into the cap on interchange debate, on SEN this morning, saying he would prefer no cap on interchange.
The AFL is trialling a cap on interchanges in the second and third rounds of the NAB Cup, limiting rotations to 80 a team each game.
“As a current player, I definitely prefer them to leave the interchange because it’s obviously a very demanding game, the less interchange you get obviously the harder it gets,” McEvoy said.
McEvoy then qualified his statement, saying he had only played football without interchange caps, so would be unsure as to what effect it would have.
Drafted with pick 9 in 2007, McEvoy admits he is still learning the art of rucking, and has spent more time this preseason, than any other, devoted to improving his ruck work.
“I’ve certainly, this preseason, done the most specific ruck work that I’ve done to date.”
“I’ve still got a way to go, there are guys in the competition that I still look up to an awful lot,” McEvoy said.
However, he believes that he has been around long enough to be expected to produce consistently.
“Once you’ve been in the system this long, there’s the expectation now that I’ve had long enough to learn the craft and it’s a matter of competing on a weekly basis with those top class guys.
McEvoy is excited about the challenges that this season will produce, believing the Saints may surprise some pundits.
“A lot of people probably tip us to not even make the 8, I feel like we get a free swing at it.
“We’ve had a great preseason, we’ve got a lot of people on the track, we think we’ve got really healthy list, and some of our kids have been absolutely fantastic.,” McEvoy said.
A new rule change for 2013 sees umpires throwing the ball up around the ground at stoppages -- with bounces only to start play each quarter and after goals -- with players having been made aware that the new strategy will be two to three seconds quicker.
McEvoy said the Saints have been preparing for less time at stoppages.
“The ball is going to be going up a lot quicker. The idea is to keep the game moving a lot more, the less time you have at stoppages the less time you have to get set up, the more chance is the ball is going to come out.
“Prepared to be less organised, because you just don’t have the time to get set up,” McEvoy said.
The Saints round 2 NAB Cup clash is against Sydney at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
