If there are 5 rookies starting round 1 that are backs by all means would be a good strategy. I just find it hard to see it that way right now and plus im not confident on any port rookies scoring that well in the real thing so im trying to get them onto my bench where scores dont count but JS is good

Even if....what are the chances 3 out of that 5 will play round 2 or be vested....seems like a risky strategy to me. Can work off very well...but can also burn just as bad.

Yep i guess thats me trying to be optimistic on their side of the coin.

Its why i try and remain pretty even between all areas.

The No Leunberger is going to kill my side.

I can get Longer by trading Rowe to Mcbean.

My rucks are quite weak though.

Interested to see what people think of this.

Bit of a debate about the 3/0/3 defence structure going on here, but im pretty confident in luke brown, pittard and Goodes all being named and staying there for now. Defence is also the lowest scoring position, so im hoping to not miss out on too many points with the rookies there for now.

yes I realise I have Goddard in the mids, but im not sold on any other value premium midfielders so far this NAB around his price (500k ish) apart from dangerfield, who also has the round 13 bye, so i decided to move goddard into mids and bring in Duffield. Duff could easily be a Heppel/Waters/Stanley. This allows me to fill a mid spot, and bring in an extra defender premium while still using the 3/0/3 structure. Can swap God with Vlastuin if defence goes pear shaped.

Rucks are extremely risky, however im looking into Billy Longer at this stage, dont trust Berger just yet. Surely 1 of Gorringe/Rowe/Currie should play for the first few rounds until I upgrade. Cox is also there incase a R2 is needed.

Crozier bit of a speculative pick, but not fond of many other forward rookies, Patton was the only other option. Dont have the cash to get a Varcoe/Kennedy, would need a downgrade.

Bartel will become Stevie J very early on, depending on the form of the 2.

What is a 3/0/3 structure? I've never gotten very technical with DT...

3 premiums, 3 rookies.

If you were playing 3 premiums, 1 midpricer and 2 rookies on the ground, it'd be 3/1/2, for example.

Final team, do not want to change now besides a rookie or two depending on who is playing round 1. Rucks are a risk, but always have the Cox link and if shit really hits the fan and they both dont play round 1 i will do some reworking, probably downgrade a mid to fix it up. Hopefully it does not come to that though.

Cheers for the comments mate, your right midfield is a gamble and as I said its been an epic evolution to get to the current squad, previous incarnations had all of Swan, Ablett, Pendles and Cotchin (plus every other f*ker in the comp). To be honest this line up cold either revert to 10 versions ago or evolve into primal ooze. What do people think of Stefan Martin in the forward line or in ruck with other combo's? Ive had him in and out over the last month.

primal ooze...lol

Stef Martin is an interesting one, I've pondered this as well awkwardly priced though!

the cheap rucks make it look explosive, if it comes off you'll be well on the way...
but teams still look naked without Swan.

I keep changing my team around and can't decide to keep Swan in my side or swap him for someone like Stanton and free some cash up. I have 19k spare now, and some notable reserves are:
Docherty, Mitchell, Arnot, Hall, Rowe, Neade the other two are lowest priced (wanted to free some cash, heh.). Any opinions on this team or how I could approve.

Yea it does... I agree, will be trying to get him asap. My plan is for him to drop slightly in price and pick him early on, hopefully round 6ish. Not having him though has given me the ability to have a very strong midfield with ablett, cotchin, pendles, watson, danger and fyfe. I think this more than makes up for no Swan in the meantime.

Hey guys, please comment as you see fit, think I'm tracking pretty well, $48700 left in the kitty....

Where's my dogtags fool? Wait who am I?

Given the debate and faith being placed in Matthew Leuenberger and Daniel Currie as the second ruck, one figures that it may be a defining position in 2013. Personally, I find it difficult to place my faith in Leuenberger despite his obvious talent given the notoriety of achilles injuries. Currie is an interesting proposition despite rucking against some Geelong unknowns.

To me, it appears that 2013 may be the year to invest in a premium ruck duo and ride out the performances of the maybes on the bench until they demonstrate consistency through considerable price hikes at the AFL level.

Fair call, but i believe the better options lie in bolstering the midfield and the forward lines, given the mid range priced talent available....

Wow. where should I start? 1 premo short in defence, 1 too many in the mids. 2 kangaroos rucks on the bench? Swap Cox & Rowe around. Trade out Daw for Gorringe.

Kennedy/varcoe? downgrade 1 to a rookie & upgrade the other. God lord that .pdf is blurry on my eyes!

Give him some reasons for doing as you say. Also, it's your opinion that he has too many mid premos - if three of Vlastuin (might get vest), Docherty (should play, may not score that well), Terlich (will play and score reasonably imo), Stevenson (will play and score reasonably imo) and Goodes (will play and score reasonably imo) all play the first three rounds without the vest, he is absolutely laughing with six mid premos. It's about balancing risk. There's no set structure, he doesn't need four defensive premiums if he honestly expects three rookies to play.

Absolutley Kennedy and Varcoe, expect them both to raise significantly in value, therefore will create more cash flow to trade to a premium.

6 mids and 1 less defender is a better option imo, there are a lot of good def rookies playing this year which will create a bit more value. Also with an extra mid they usually have the ability to score more freely than a defender, therefore giving you a better chance at scoring better and increasing the value in your team.

As i said though, IMO....

Not trying to start a war here and no offence intended, but this is such a useless answer. Just because you have 4 premo defenders and 5 premo mids and he has soemthing different, does not mean he and everybody else has to do exactly the same as you. If that is the structure that he wants to go withh then thats his decision. The back rookies he has selected in defence are all very capable of stringing some games together, so picking 3 prem defenders is not such a bad idea and he has backed up this structure with solid rookie priced players. If he had selected a bunch of rookies that werent going to get games then id probably suggest changing a few things and bringing in more premos to balance out his defence, but what you said provides no insight whatsoever.

Instead I would rather alert him to things like
-Berger still seems a very risky pick atm, maybe look at some alternatives as backup
-Do agree that both Dawe and Currie isnt the best of picks however.
-Martin has looked very lacklustre and there may be better value out there for that price based on his attitude in the NAB so far.
-Rockliff is wasted in the mids, may as well move him forward and pick another perm/mid pricer midfielder in his place.
-Franklin does seem a bit iffy for me to start with given his price tag after all that has evolved so far, but im sure he will still be a solid pick, it is buddy.

Heres my team could do with any advice.

My main questions i keep asking myself as i changed it every second day.

1. Ignoring goddard til i see how he is going is it risky or is he a must have.
2. do i need one more premium defender to start?
3. have i got my midfield too stacked.
4. forgetting leunberger and trying to just go with a decent ruck combo to reduce headache, is this the way to go?
5. Am i being one eyed putting jude bolton there?
6. should i ditch a mid priced forward for say lee and upgrade the other?
