I realise how late I am to the party but I've had my eye on this game since before it's release and as a 360 man it's been the main thing tempting me to buy a PS3 for three years. Finally bought a PS3 three days ago and Heavy Rain and this is indeed my type of game. It's nice to get a unique game that isn't a FPS trying to get a slice of the Call of Duty pie.

Read most of this thread (until the spoiler tags started) and have only seen one mention of it but does anyone else consider it ridiculously Shenmue inspired? As a huge fan of Shenmue and someone longing for a Shenmue 3 it really does quench my thirst for this type of game. Haven't got that far into it yet but can't wait till the missus goes to sleep so I can get control of the TV again

I thought it was alright but in my book it is not a game, more of an interactive movie.

Well, it is.

These type of games don't appeal to everyone. Heavy Rain would rate in my top 20 games while others hate it.

Last years game of the year (The Walking Dead) was more of an interactive than Heavy Rain was. I actually expect more of them to start coming out.

I wouldn't consider this game to be an interactive movie, simply because some of the scenes and story pathways are pretty damn hard to activate. The fight in the auto wreckers is just one example (quite difficult on the hardest setting to survive, which affects the story). Basically if you ain't good, you won't get the best outcome.

First single player game I played for the PS3. Immediately fell in love with it and was ecstatic that I got a good ending on my first play through. Can't wait for Beyond: Two Souls and according to this they've already started working on their next game after that one as well (probably a PS4 title).

Love this game - not really much else like it out on the market but it's definitely a refreshing experience.

I have no idea why they only ever released one piece of DLC (the Madison Paige Chronicle thing). Really can't wait for Beyond though.

Have been thinking of replaying this for a while to try and get the platinum - think I have about 72% of the trophies.

Definitely go for it mate - it's the most fun I've ever had out of my platinums. The different variations on the story are fantastic and all of them equally enjoyable.

Try not to rage when you continually fail the car scene related trophy. :p

hahaha - I actually did try and platinum this a while back and got stuck on the car scene. Must have tried it about 30 times...It was actually what made me put on hold the platinum pursuit lol.

Finisheeeed.

Very good game as you all know. Looking forward to giving it another playthrough. I read there are seven endings, I got the one where Ethan survived, saved Shaun and looked for an apartment with Madison at the end. Did I do good?

Also my Norman got killed at the car yard. I stuffed up a couple of the QTE's :( is it possible to save him or is he doomed regardless? Something I'm looking forward to doing correctly next time I play.

There are seven "main" endings (ie. the overall result), but there are 22 character-related endings. The "best" ending comes from having all of Norman, Madison, Shaun and Ethan surviving, and Scott being killed at the warehouse.

The scene with Mad Jack is bloody tough, but yes, Norman can survive (as well as die/become incapacitated in other scenes). You can also incapacitate Ethan and Madison in other ways as well - that's why there are so many endings.

Glad you enjoyed it. :thumbsu:

Yes it is possible.

I guess I'm in the minority.

I purchased it thinking it would be okay. It looked unique, has good reviews and I don't mind expanding my horizons.

I was bored out of my mind very early on. I persisted in the hope it would improve but it didn't. Don't think I'll be wasting my time with the genre again such is the horrible experience I had.

it's kind of interesting you say that because i started the game and was like, wow....i just wasted a hundred bucks here. there's no way i'm going to like this.
like you said persisted for a while then suddenly i found myself struggling to put the controller down!

became completely engaged by the storyline and ended up THOROUGHLY enjoying one of the most unique experiences in gaming.

The scene with the crazy doctor was absolutely bonkers.

I must say that I haven't played a lick of the game but rather watched a "Let's play" series on youtube and still it was enthralling.

Finished it last night.

Got the hero ending, with Shaun, Ethan, Madison all playing happy family, and Norman going on talk shows. Ultimately though probably the least satisfying of endings. Sounds sadistic, but when you play a game as dark as this one, the happiness for everyone isn't really fitting.

Still ****ing great game.

I was happy to get the happy ending. As the devs were hoping I got emotionally involved in the characters and I would have been sad if Shaun or Ethan got killed/caught.

There's actually a couple of ways that he dies that are unintentionally amusing. Also at that part where the cops chase Ethan at his hotel, I chose to fall off the roof as opposed to giving myself up to the cops under the assumption that he would end up killing himself. I wanted to see how the story would play out without a key character. Whilst that didn't happen, the reaction of one of the detectives (that arseh*le one that tags along with Norman in the story) did make me chuckle.

Yeah I threw him off the roof too but I was under the assumption he'd live and if I stayed up there he'd simply get caught.

I will play to get some alternate endings. But I'll be sad about it ;)

Not sure how to do the 'spoiler' thing but my favourite playthrough was when I deliberately failed every sequence where possible. Makes for some funny moments :D

Not sure how I did not know this game existed til yesterday. :S

When and got it for 19 bucks from EB and after the slowish crap 'Tutorial Levels' holy shit what a game so far.

lol a bit late to the party but geez, can't complain with the price! :D

Yeah, the start is a bit slow but I guess they had to do that to help you get familiarised with the controls and style.
