AFL Live 2

Saw a video, made a post. And yeah I spent all of about 3 minutes deciding. 3 minutes I wont get back. Don't get upset princess. It's a forum, you'll survive.

Sure, nice to get your opinion on if you were buying the game or not :)

I can sleep happy now.

Not struggling financially, but wont waste my time on something that looks like shit

Compared to other sports games like the ones made by EA and 2K, it's woeful.

However for a non wealthy game developer and the only game developer to have a go at making an AFL game, I think it's a damn good effort......so far.

Seriously what did you expect it to look like?

Im actually liking it so far as well. A lot better then first expected! Have played a few games with Bendigo Gold, and then with the Pioneers in the TAC Cup, now playing AFL matches.

The game play is fun, and even though the graphics may be a wii version, the game play is rather realistic.
Big plus for me!, gives further games a chance if they get the graphics right

Ok just so people who might want to know! I went through and simulated an entires season in career mode from tac cup!! You do get an offer or 14 from vfl clubs so that's pretty cool I expected this to be the case and in glad they obliged! It's playable and I think it will be better with dlc! Worth about what you pay for it tbh!!

This is to anyone who has the game,
Have they added any new stadiums?
And it. Is good to see that opened the roof for Edihad stadium!!!

Crowd looks like trash but besides that the game is actually pretty great in my opinion. Having played a few exhibition matches, the game feels far more fluid than the previous one and the physics engine seems to be completely overhauled which is really positive. The speed and fluidity is really noticeable positive as it opens up the game play style options while the only initial major negative is the poor "graphics" which should be addressed to an extent in the up coming dlc

I wasnt expecting much from this but I have to say so far I am enjoying it.
First things first... its not pretty. The graphics are not fantastic and some of the animations are a little magoo, the crowd is also.. well actualy kinda funny to look at cause of how bad it is up close. However I did read on their facebook page that they are planning a DLC in 6 months that will improve graphics as well as update the roster.

As for gameplay, so far its been great. Much faster and more fluent than the previous game. There have been some good improvements aswell such as marking and rucking contests, your position really does effect the result of the contest and you are able to move around freely in the contest. The pace of the game is making it a little difficult around contests and when the ball is loose, although you can quite easily get away from your opponents there are times when things get a little hectic cause of the pacing and you can get easily lost. Kicking for goal is also interesting. You use the analog stick when taking a set shot which is a nice touch but it does seem to be a little too sensitive and moving slightly to the left or right sends the kick on bad angles, but its something I think I will adjust too as time goes by.

One thing so far I cant stand about this game is the menu system. almost a carbon copy of the wii game and it looks terrible they should have done better with this. Sound is pretty average and the commentary is the same as the wii version(reminds me of AFL 98) but the sound of the umpires and whistle makes me want to punch kittens...

Going to keep playing it and I recommend it to people, specially if you can look past your prior doubts.

This game has the same crowd noises and commentary as AFL 2007, what the f##k is this shit.

It's terrible.

Footy Factory is a joke. You can't create a custom team, you only have a custom version of each AFL Team. No more creating your local team, or an all star team.

Gameplay is worse than the PS2 versions. Players that miss tackles go diving like Superman. A shot at goal hit the goal post on the full and was deemed out of bounds, throw in.

As for AFL Live 1 being a tacklefest? I just spend about 2 minutes of one of my 2.5 minute quarters doing ball up, tap, tackle, repeat.

Everyone looks like they're running on ice. It's bad. I can't believe in the 2 years since AFL Live came out we've effectively gone backwards 5 years in terms of gameplay.

Spoiling is great I reckon but a little too easy. You can choose where you want to spoil it which is cool.

Way to many speckies already which is a negative.

Overall the gameplay is pretty fun.
That was predictable given how the gameplay was described. Hopefully the 2014 update addresses that. Speckies are exciting but not if they happen every 3 minutes.

Now that it's out and that FB announcement was made detailing the development, a few things are clear. So this was a co-development between Wicked Witch and Tru Blu who have apparently put together an in-house development team. Does this strike anyone else as odd? Wicked Witch do not feature on the cover in any way.

From the FB page:
Tru Blu said:
Have greater control on the development process and pave the way for a small in-house Tru Blu development team – this project has been a joint venture between Tru Blu and Wicked Witch, we feel we have achieved this task.

Presumably WW had no issue with not having any presence on the final product, or were coerced through the big cashmoneywad. Either way, this is a new one on me.

Tru Blu said:
Unfortunately 12 months isn’t a long time in game development, so in an effort to please our anxious fans we didn’t have time to include fancy cut scenes, or glamorous graphics, these probably needed another 6 months work. Most people switch these off after a few games but for the truly devoted, we are continuing to work on these features and we intend (pending AFL approval) to release a glamour DLC pack mid-next year which would also include the new 2014 update.

He says fancy cut scenes like they're a team of hillbilly developers. "We don't gots none o them faaancy cut scenes, but the ol' girl still runs pretty good". Ahem. Also, "switch these off", wut? Presumably he means the cutscenes, as switching the graphics off would likely be detriminental to gameplay...

It begs the question; why not wait that extra six months, polish it to within an inch of its life, release some trailers about now, update the fanbase (that was a terribly ordinary effort, game aside) and keep us on tenterhooks until March, coincidentally being around the time when the season starts? I think most people would rather wait and get a good product as long as they get a juicy tidbit every now and then. Exhibit 1A: Don Bradman Cricket.

By the time the DLC is released you might just be left with the diehards. Gently building anticipation is not Tru Blu's strength, evidently. The "don't tell anyone a single thing about the game, hide who the developer is and release no media until just before the game is released" approach needs tweaking methinks. A presence on here would be a good start. It's not as though they wouldn't have read the thread, I mean it's about the only major public discussion besides the FB pages (if you can call asking the same question 100 times despite the fact it had already been answered 99 times).

I'd be interested to know what features they have lined up for the DLC. The above comments suggest a graphical overhaul (or at least a spit and polish) is in the works and presumably any gameplay issues identified by players will be addressed.

Sadly, as we know, all PS3 and Xbox consoles will implode upon release of the PS4 and Xbone.

Is there a pronounced learning curve though? Sort of hard to tell early days. AFL Live 1 confounded a few people until they got the hang of it and mastered the targeted kicks, running to the right spots, using handball effectively etc (although a quick look back through history shows a lot more enthusiasm for that version than this one so far). I reckon a few weeks to nut out the best way to play would see an accurate assessment. Of course the gameplay could be really shallow...

It's getting a caning on FriendFace. This thread is infinitely more positive.

Tru Blu, if you are listening/reading, the days of having no contact with your player-base are over. That went out with the Dreamcast. Get in here and interact. There are enough sensible posters in here (though still admittedly not many...) to generate useful feedback.

Anyone looked into the career mode?

Is it anything that will give the game some replayability?

My mini review:

Positives
+ Kicking requires skill, you can't just bomb away
+ Spoiling is great as you can choose where you punch the ball
+ Unpredictable ball bounce
+ Marking has improved
+ Set shots are fun and require more skill
+ More than one song on the soundtrack

Negatives
- Graphics (Obviously)
- The lesser known players don't even have the right hair color
- Tackling animations look silly (although it does require some skill which is good)
- Some really ugly kicking animations
- Commentating still sucks
- The game has quite a few frustrating elements to it so far (Dennis Armfield vs Jack Trengrove in the ruck for 1 whole quarter lol)

Things that are ridiculous
~ No team song after you win!? Like seriously WTF! Almost unforgivable
~ No pregame intro, nothing at half time and no post match

That's all I can think of for now. It looks like they focused on the gameplay so much and forgot about some very basic elements that wouldn't have been too hard to add too the game. Either way I bought it from EB Games so I can always get a full refund if I want to.

I'm definitely returning it. It's unplayable. It's like their app on iphone on steroids.

Afl live 1 was so much better.

This.

Going to be returning tomorrow.

The only reason I bought it from EB was for the 7 day money back guarantee
