There was an article in the west australian that said that lawyers for williams had got the case delayed to early april. Evidently, there was more than one punch because several have been charged for fighting. Collingwood has told Williams to work with the Salvos as a punishment.

Personally, I would change the heading of this thread because its out of date....

If I go by the most recent statement by the club it sounds like they are only willing to acknowledge that Marley put himself into a compromising position, that doesn't sound like we believe Marley was the instigator or primarily at fault

Are you able to explain why you are so certain that it was a one punch from behind fight? You must realise that because you are on the Collingwood board that we expect more than just an unsupported statement purporting to be fact.

Pretty sure the Catholic church is against homosexuality and gay marriage, along with a good many other popular religions ... The Salvation Army ain't exactly Robinson Crusoe there.

Funny about that, I read the West Australian and it said otherwise. Maybe it said that his lawyers were hoping to delay the case to early april. Not that it matters much. I'm tempted to find that old newspaper to see if my sanity's intact...

As to Marley, he has to learn, learn about a few things I'd say.

I have faith the club will put full resources into giving him every opportunity to improving himself.

Yeah, sensible types can get frustrated at seeing others let their talent and opportunities go to waste. I see that all the time. But sometimes life lessons cannot be taught, they need to be learnt, and mistakes need to be made. Of course, that shouldn't come at the expense of some bloke's jaw.

Let's just hope that whatever mistakes were made will be learnt from by everybody.

But if Marley ends up throwing away his opportunity and goes back to nailing fence posts in Albany, well, that'll be a damn shame. He certainly wouldn't be the first nor would he be the last.

Just remembered that this matter was due n court this month. Did a search and the date was 9th December for five days. But no court date and no reports. Has anyone heard anything? Has it been adjourned to a later date?

I'm no legal eagle but expecting a 1-2 year good behavior bond taking into account the many hours of community service he has done since the incident.

I think being a high profile footballer with an expensive legal team will do wonders for his punishment.
