Need a return of Herberts, and Morries and Clarries. The backbone started to fall out of society when these names were consigned to the backburner.

My dad is called Herbert Leslie. His mam wanted our mam and dad to give one of us boys the same name. Thank God they declined.

I have 2 sons. Both have James as their middle name (obviously after me).

I was baptized James Gerard, and I always hated Gerard. I found out when I was about 15 and I first saw my birth certificate that it was not on there. My dad forgot to write it down when he registered me. So no middle name for me either !

I am named after my Dad. My first child named after maternal grandfather, 2nd after my brother, 3rd is due in Oct and might go back to my great grandfather for that one if a boy or maternal great grandmother is a girl.

I just like linking the new generation of our family tree back to those before us. Seems kinda right.

How it should be I see Rose or Lily I think bogan.

My middle name is Malcolm, after my mum's uncle, who I never met. Most of my family have middle names that have carried down the line or are named after relatives. I've never really been asked about it, so aside from cricket scorecards it's been pretty inconsequential.

Also, why do Americans go around using all 3 of their names? In Australia it is "Michael Clarke" in the US it is 'Michael Robert Clarke" or 'Michael R Clarke". Odd.
Aside from the aforementioned actor/celebrity issue, a lot of American males are named after their fathers. They often go by some moniker incorporating their middle name to avoid confusion.

So it's Malcolm in the middle. Sorry, but I'm sure you were waiting for somebody to say it.

Not at all, I've heard it so many times before that any apology is completely unnecessary :p

I have two middle names, my dad's christian name and my grandpas christian name (my dad has his dad's christian as his middle name).

My daughter has two middle names, neither of which mean anything family wise. One was a first name choice that didn't make the cut and the other is the last name of a famous Aussie that me and the mrs love!

A fair few Indian cricketers don't have middle names Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Sehwag and Yuvraj.
It has been funny seeing names like 'R Ashwin, V Kohli, V Sehwag' and so on, on the same scorecards as 'CJL Rogers, MEK Hussey, SPD Smith'.
Whole different world I suppose. Glad I only have the one middle name.

UWMBCA Welegedera, seems to be fairly common for Sri Lankans to have a lot of middle names (I may be extrapolating a bit here).
