AFL Club
Port Adelaide
Can it be done? Sitting 3-2 at the moment and just inside the top 8.

I think we'll just miss out as our percentage will be to low.
Low percentage has always been an issue for the club so I can certainly see why you would believe that. I think the general consensus is the club will finish between 7-10. A home elimination final would be awesome though.

Hard to argue with those stats exile. However, they are in the top 8 right now so that has to count for something?

Just not up to it this season with today's side...

But... if Bock remains injury free, and becomes our 3rd tall swing man either up fwd or in defence... Replacing Warnock who is terrible under pressure...

And we regain a fit and firing 2nd ruck option... Preferably Dixon... As Nicolls just doesn't have the tank to ruck solo and have impact around the ground...

And Harley returns as a dominant goal kicking midfielder...

Then I think we can turn those 50/50 games to wins, and finish 8th.

Whilst I agree with you, a lot of those stats just make it look doom and gloom without much substance. I.e. Of course if we are ranked 17th in least opponent disposals per game we are going to be ranked poorly for opposition handballs, opposition kicks, opposition marks, kicks per game diff, handball per game diff, marks per game diff. In this example you have posted like 8 dot points that pretty much mean the same thing.
You also fail to list stats such as;
- 1st in contested possessions
- 3rd in clearances
- 3nd for rebound fifties
- 1st for 1%ers
There is also a bunch of other stats that we are ranked within the top 10 as well

I do agree with you though, there are some serious deficiencies that need to be sorted if we are to make finals. If we somehow do, it worries me even more that we will get absolutely demolished and get set a long way back(i.e North 2012)

I'd forget about statistics and how you have played the last few weeks when looking at a finals birth. Realistically, there should be no team that only has the one win this year, which should mean that 12 games will have a club right in the hunt for a top 8 spot. The Suns do have a good month of football ahead of it where it has to at least split it 2-2 but 3-1 would be better. Basing it on 2-2 that would leave the Suns well placed at 5-4 with 13 games to go and seven wins needed.

Then rounds 11-16 start which are your tough run as I see your fixture. It is entirely possible to drop all 6 of those games but even if you pulled 2-4 in that run, it would leave you at 7-8 and an uphill battle to get spot in the 8, even given your easier run from round 17. So by looking at your next ten games, for the Suns to make the eight, it is extremely important to try and go 3-1 in the next 4 to stay in front of the pack. Given that the next 4 have you facing the Giants, North, Saints and Bulldogs,it is possible as you are a chance in all four games but the Suns have to take their chances and not kick at goal like they did today

How are we looking now for the F-word??
Surly it just be playing the minds of many ppl

Lock it in Eddie!

I reckon we'll certainly know over the next month with how we fare against St Kilda, Bulldogs, Adelaide. If we get 2 out of those 3 (I think we can get 3 out of 3) then we should be able to string a handful of wins for the 2nd half of the season I would think.

Keep in mind the Suns have played one less game than 10 other teams in the AFL so they could potentially be ranked higher in some of those areas. With the exception of points scored against, the Suns appear to be playing top 8 football so far in 2017.

Matchup have you got our rankings for contested possessions, inside50 entries and tackles?

Before anyone gets excited we should ask ourselves if that's what we really want :p

Richmond a few seasons ago went on a massive winning streak to end the season only to lose in week 1 of finals by something like 90 points from memory?

The F word?
Give me a break.

Does anyone remember 2 weeks ago when we were a rabble after getting flogged from the jump by Port and then not firing a shot in anger against the Demons in the last 1/3 of that game. FFS that was 2 weeks ago!

Got to see good hard consistent footy for 9 out of the next 10 weeks. On the road as well as home. One good week at home does not a season make.

Maybe for part of 2014 we put together a string of good performances. But other that that? Never.

If we can play good footy for almost all of the next 10 weeks then some wins will follow and the F word is in play.
Until then.....tell em their dreamin' and their memory is shot.
