The start of what will be a very long list of accolades.

We need to go all the way to.... ludicrous derpage.

This kid plays so much like Uncle Terry. He throws his body in with reckless abandon. Here's hoping he is every bit as durable as Uncle Terry as well.

We saw some serious signs of what's to come on Saturday night. This was a chance for him to play on guys with similar physical development as himself and he smashed them, this is what he'll do to most (all) KPDs in another 3 or so years.

No doubt he would have had an easier time this year if we had some other key forwards to take that 1-2 defender.. as it stands we have seen enough to know this kid is going to be a star.

Let's hope that it is like the baptism of fire that Fletcher endured in 93 and it only serves to make JD a better player in the long run.

Excellent stuff! I'm glad I got to watch him at both the Richmond and GWS games this year - saw both the games that Merrett and JD got their Rising Star nods. Joey D was such a crucial piece on Saturday, without him in the side I'm not sure we would have got across the line, took some marks that not many others could've taken...

Now all we need is Gleeson deservadly so to get a rising star nomination (shouldve already happened but he wasnt a big name ) and people will see we have a really good crop coming through and we might not be affected by draft sanctions. Would be a fair effort to have Merrett, Gleeson and JoeD as 3 rising stars in the same year.

From the EFC site:

"Joe Daniher from the Essendon Football Club is the Round 12 NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.

The 201cm forward/ruckman is strong overhead and has great mobility. The left-footer is also an accurate set shot at goal."

Have they changed the drug of choice to Crack at the club?!?

In regards to his set shot, his technique is fine so all it is will be getting that ball drop right

Living in the South, I watched many a year as Stewart Lowe plucked mark after mark in the St.Kilda forward line at Moorabbin...to hear the sighs and heckles as missed goals from 20m out directly in front. He worked on his kicking so much that he got it to turn in his favour eventually.

I have Joe in the same situation at this early point of his career. I think you're correct about his technique as he doesn't have too high a ball drop, his leg is mostly straight through his action and he doesn't have the stutter start in his run up. Hopefully, it will be a simple thing that having a few good shots at goal over the summer with some mates will cure the yips. But for now...just let the kid play.

How is his technique fine when he can't get the ball drop right? Releasing the ball at the correct time would be considered part of the set shot technique.
I worded that badly. The pure technique of the kick, ignoring the ball drop is fine. The ball drop is all over the place
