But, it's hardly surprising that footballers will tend to have children younger. They tend to be financially secure at a younger age than your average young person.

Financial security= the right time to have children. Well, in the eyes of a lot, anyway.

You really should read the entire thread before you reply, yaco. No one really thinks that Ryder will go down this path, it was more then likely a move by his manager.

If Ryder's home life sucks then I can understand his desire to make his household peaceful. Nothing that I have seen in Ryder's time at Essendon has made me think that he is anything other than a good man.

The last player I was totally gutted on leaving EFC was Gav Wanganeen.

This scenario for Paddy is eerily similar. Partner, family etc.

I believe that Port Adelaide ended up sneaking a McDonalds franchise to Gav's wife to sweeten the deal.

Which Wanganeen swears to this day isn't true - Gun player who won the Brownlow in his third year of footy.

I have never said that Ryder is not a good man. We all know that Connors has been floating this no clause agreement for 2 years - Ryder wants to leave, so we live with this - But you tell your Manager in no uncertain terms, that it must be by standard trading rules, not by underhand vague rules - And I will add that no club wants this ' no clause ' agreement to be enforced - It will open up the biggest can of worms - Especially when you consider other clubs had similar supplement programs to Essendon - Reading the Lumumba situation with Collingwood makes me think he could use the ' no clause ' agreement to leave Collingwood.

If Paddy leaves.. it will purely be for 'family' reasons.. and in that case, I expect the club to be 'understanding'. There is a time and place for being ruthless.. but you also need to be a club too. Again it would only be for the 'right price'.. but if he really wants to leave (or any of our players do) then so be it.

I know that he really does admire and respect Hird (like most of our list).. so hopefully the club is right.. it is just about sorting some stuff out over the post-season.

Ryder really is a key to us winning a Premiership in the next three years..

Agree with your sentiments - But you do under standard trading rules - You don't allow your Manager to use weasle rules - And some seem to have forgotten that Ryder is a contracted player.

Most of them start early, Bomber had his first kid when he was 21. Scarlett when he was 18. Both of them bled for football/their clubs. It all depends on the individual.

This code has the stigma of being 'a proper man's sport' yet is filled with wimps, excuse makers and sycophants. The notion of 18 year olds being homesick, despite the fact that the AFL season takes up 2/3 of their year, justifying COLA because of rookies who only earn '$200,000', whinging about a 1/2/4 hour flight, the difference between 5/6 days rest, being pushed around by the media and not telling them to go and **** themselves when it is perfectly excusable to do so and too many individuals obsessed about their own brand instead of trying to win a ****ing premiership.

Given that the AFL & Dr Harcourt knew AOD was not illegal and testing with no side affects in FEBUARY 2013, but chose not to tell anyone, surely they share any culpability.
With Ryders wife pregnant at this time, its just a little but immoral (like a little bit pregnant)

I think the players contracts are actually with the AFL, not the club, so that would make for an interesting situation...

I still think/hope its a grab for more money by a money hungry grub of a agent who might be just doing his job but the farken campaigner should have started this post season. It does no one any good to leak this now.

Was thinking about this last night at 3am. Can understand that perhaps the wife and kids have been hounded by the media, that ryder has been hounded by the media and they cant cope anymore. So escaping to somewhere that noone really knows who he/they are is a very appealing out. I can understand this. The media shitstorm that the AFL created with this whole ASADA mess must have taken its toll. And then he hears stories that it could drag out for years and years. I can understand him leaving to escape all of it. What gets to me though is it isn't because of the potential ill side effects of the drugs it is because of the media pressure and that of the general public who believed all the hype about Essendon FC. To me he cant really leave under the clause that was made because of the AFLPA because he isnt leaving for the due care of his health. However, as much as i love paddy, if he needs to go for these reasons i see no reason why we cant work with him and get a decent trade for him. And then i see no reason if we are cleared by our court case that we cant take action against the AFL for him leaving because of the lies they told to the public of Australia and we get some kind of compensation as well. I have no doubt it is his family pressuring him to leave for these reasons and i reckon the bloke will still bleed red and black no matter where he ends up. Watch for the jumper tugs when he boots each of his 6 goals against nth melbourne and lets hope like hell Hirdy can convince him to stay, or at least not reach a decision until we know the outcome of the court case which might a pressure reliever for him.

People need to realise that the impact of the whole saga is not purely on players but on their families, the uncertainty and just the pure length of it must be impacting the health of those involved.

I have little doubt that following the Cronulla deal that Ryder didn't sit down and think about what if I take that deal? 4 weeks, that's just a bad hammy. Miss preseaon training whilst not ideal is better than doing a knee, plus you can still do the work outside of the group, just the club can't tell you what to do. Put is the partner who also wants an end to it, the only way to do this is to take a plea bargin, waiting for the legal fight will only drag it out for another couple of years.

If Ryder takes the deal he is then in conflict with the club who put him in this position so it is only logical to move on. With a partner from Brisbane this then makes sense to go there with a young family as you then have a support network for the child.

Players want this over and done with which is why Cronulla players did the deal. Essendon refused the deal so players have to act individually and protect their own interests.

Not do be a downer for you guys but, it doesn't really mean anything. Paddy loves Essendone and it's players: he has been there for a while, l would be surprised if he didn't love them.

He could have come out and said "all this media bs is just that, bs. But he hasn't. The fact that neither he nor the club has said he will not be going is worrying. Brisbane did that with merret.

I rekon it is his wife putting pressure on him to get out. And Brisbane fans don't really care about footy. Thats a big reason as well l rekon.
