"A former WA police officer has broken his 40-year silence to reveal how fellow officers threatened to kill him if he went public with vital evidence linking police to the murder of brothel madam Shirley Finn in 1975."

An interesting development. This is one that has never gone away, and there has always been rumours of police involvement in her murder.

Didn't the bullets/weapon come from the police armory?
The weapon has never been found/identified.

I believe it was the same type/model as used by WA Police at the time, but I don't think it's ever been confirmed 100% that it was a police gun.

Could be, I'm not claiming to be 100% across the case.

Not sure how they could know that, though. They can match a bullet to the gun it was fired from, but how can they say a particular bullet was a police one and not just one of the same calibre and type? I would have thought they could only say it was the type of bullet police use (and maybe that's not generally available to others). But I'm not a ballistics expert either!

Correct. A bullet is a bullet is a bullet. Without the gun you can only speculate as to who fired it. The only caveat would be if the police were the only ones in the country at that time using that type of bullet.

Mr Hooper told how he heard the four shots ring out on the golf course having earlier seen Ms Finn’s distinctive car – which he described as a “Yank Tank” parked alongside a van he said belonged to the police.

He then told how two men – one short and stocky, the other tall and skinny - then banged on the roof of his car, and warned him not to tell the police what he had seen, or they would know straight away.

Mr Hooper named one of those men as Laurie Tudori, a Northbridge nightclub owner and Perth underworld figure.

Complexities in Finn case result in further delays

ON a side street tucked away from Fremantle's bustling cappuccino strip, Michael Tudori sips a macchiato washed down with sparkling mineral water - as traditional Italians do.
It's a suburb not dissimilar to his childhood, growing up around Northbridge where his father Lawrence and uncle Bert became kings of illegal gambling in the 1970s before Burswood Casino took over the market.

Night clubs, gambling, heroin and corruption

Only World War II and the internment of migrants such as Rispoli, a member of the pro-Mussolini fascist Black Shirts, put a hold on the spread of Perth's colourful illegal gambling venues. Once the war ended, it was business as usual and by the time the swinging 60s came along, Rispoli was entrenched in his second club.He and his brother Vince, a partner in Roma, had fallen out and Rispoli found a new James Street location to start Il Trovatore, one of a handful of clubs in Northbridge before Burswood Casino stole the market. Others were the International Club, Club 27, the Latin Quarter and the Patris Club.

If it is a police bullet, you can do rifling analysis, check the round markings and determine which type of firearm it came out of.

Check to report who lost firearms in the police force. Losing a firearm in the police force is not looked upon lightly.

Do database blob analysis on the firearms if the round perceived to have come from a law enforcement firearm.

The former police officer came across as very believable according to The West Australian's crime reporter.

The witness called are getting closer and closer, but some of the evidence is outrageous!! Or is it??

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-...ld-don-hancock-murdered-brothel-madam/9180496

A coronial inquest has heard explosive claims that CIB chief Don Hancock shot and killed brothel madam Shirley Finn, whose body was found riddled with bullets at Royal Perth Golf Course in 1975.

The claims came from Leigh Varis-Beswick, a former madam who went on to become a Kalgoorlie city councillor, who was told of the link between Mr Hancock and Ms Finn's murder by her ex-partner — former detective Tony Lewandowski — following Mr Hancock's death in a car bomb blast in 2001.

Ms Varis-Beswick said Mr Lewandowski — or Lou as he was commonly known — told her he had been the driver while Mr Hancock shot Ms Finn.

"There were two of us — Don Hancock was the trigger-man," Ms Varis-Beswick said Mr Lewandowski revealed to her.

A witness has told the inquest into the 42-year-old unsolved murder of Shirley Finn how he saw a police officer at the crime scene on the night the Perth brothel madam was killed, but police ignored his evidence for years.

He said a policeman with white, silver hair and bushy black eyebrows — who looked straight at him — got into the passenger side of the Dodge with the woman.

Mr Couacaud told the inquest he now believes it to have been Don Hancock, who later went on to become chief of the WA Police CIB.

He said later, on his way back past the golf course, he saw the police van reverse out and drive off — and when he went past the Dodge he could no longer see anyone inside and the door on the driver's side was left slightly open.

The inquest into the mother-of-three's execution-style death heard claims this week that Bernie Johnson stole the .22 rifle from the police property department.

That evidence came from Maxwell Raymond Healy, who said he saw Mr Johnson leaning into a big dark car parked on the edge of the Royal Perth Golf Club on the night of the murder and was later savagely beaten by the detective for asking why he was there.

On Friday, Ron William Brown confirmed Mr Johnson joined him on a two-and-a-half month yacht journey to the Seychelles after Ms Finn's death but strongly rejected the suggestion his friend threw a rifle, wrapped in a hessian bag, off the side.

The inquest has so far heard from more than 20 witnesses, with next week's highlight expected to be Rose Black, who was Ms Finn's girlfriend.

Friends turning on friends is not making is much easier for the Coroner 35 years to sort through who's lying and who's telling the truth.

Will Rose Black tell the truth?

I think Queensland comes close but their Fitzgerald Inquiry that was announced the by the acting Premier (on a day the Premier was away) that appointed Fitzgerald who used his moral authority to lever the inquiry into a position of being able to inquire into any relevant matter.

Queesnland seemed to clean up their act. It's not just the police but the political system!

Did WAPF after their Royal Commission?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitzgerald_Inquiry

The Commission of Inquiry into Possible Illegal Activities and Associated Police Misconduct (the Fitzgerald Inquiry) (1987–1989) into Queensland Police corruption was a judicial inquiry presided over by Tony Fitzgerald QC. The inquiry resulted in the deposition of a premier, two by-elections, the jailing of three former ministers and a police commissioner who was jailed and lost his knighthood. It also led indirectly to the end of the National Party of Australia's 32-year run as the governing political party in Queensland.

When a brothel madam promises to bring down government over her tax issues, what did she think was going to happen?

The amusing point is the amount of differing witnesses with different opinions.

Ive had some interesting conversations with head of Internal Affairs. Hes had a stroke and dead now. It was common for higher officers to carry a .22 rifle in their boot in the day.

You can see how Shirley may have posed a threat to government.

Has anyone read Underbelly the book? Most of it eastern states corruption. Not riveting reading but a general background to how just a couple of cops can make the rest look not so good.

A woman wears a $2500 custom dress to the Royal Perth Golf club carpark.

agreed
theres no corrupt cops out there what so ever that would even think of doing this kind of stuff

There will always be corruption, but there are procedures in place now, even the crims cant convince the public.

Taking protection money from a brothel maddam in the day. Now there is something new. Having dirt on police officers and politicians. Now that sounds familiar. Threatening people because you wear a $2500 custom dress but wont pay your tax.
