No it wasn't.

He is showing a fair bit of defensive effort atm. My belief, we made the call to early. We looked at King and said, yeah he will do that role without thinking that kings body was shot.

I think we knew his body was shot, but we also knew nahas was never going to be the player we needed him to be

I would still not be surprised at all if we went after a player that is not a the centre of a core group (if that makes sense?). I wouldn't mind at all if we got a couple of potential A graders as opposed to a "star". It would be consistent with our policy of managing our TPP well & adding value to the squad.....

I'd swap the emphasis here. Simply must keep the list together.

I rate re-signing Rance as big as Sydney snagging Franklin. Can't think of a single free agent that would be a better get for us than Rance.

Besides, we've spent years and millions of bucks on the current group. It's a big investment. Simply keeping them together, keeping the spirit, seems to be working. When they play well, they really look like they play for each other. (Different story when we play poorly...)

Landing a quality free agent would be cream on top.

So, for mine, Richardson is doing a good job.

Yep. Building and retaining talent has been the focus...and the club has surprised me at how well they've done it.

I don't think they've come this far without thinking if the next steps. Buy quality kids or try and get some big names without upsetting the apple cart?
Guess we'll all find out in time.

Nahas and White both do some exciting things but are defensively awful. Nahas has improved this part of his game since leaving, but the time was right for both players to ply their trade elsewhere.

Often, a player ends up at a new club, through whatever route, and suddenly they play better footy than anyone thought they had in them.

I'm going to call this the Mitch Morton Effect, but it could equally be called the Anthony Miles Effect.

If we go from 2013 there have been some misses and people forget we nearly signed off a first rounder for Trengrove
Early two yr extension of Dh contract. Looking to be ok ATM based on performance,but has been shaky
Paid big bucks to do his job and is still not going as good as I would like
Just my opinion as I don't see what all the noise is about as top notch players generally stay unless the afl gets involved in some sneaky deal

The list is currently at the stage where they are nearly all on a Dan Richardson negotiated contract. Foley's obscene 400-500k contract from 2012 will be coming to an end and he won't be getting anywhere near that this time (if he gets one at all). Deledio is the other big one from the pre-Richardson days, but his salary is pretty reasonable for his ability.

not long after we hired him i recall him saying in an interview the contracts etc were a bit of a mess (some players overpaid etc) & he targeted this year as the time the list would be looking like "the Geelong model" with Players all on a bit less so as to be able to keep them together for team success.
we are pretty much at the stage now where playing for this Club is a privilege so anyone playing here won't be on $$$ they can get elsewhere, but the trade off is team success.

The real work starts now, Foley,Newman,Knights,Hampson,Dea all need to be cleared off the books and replaced with players that will be top 10 players in our team.

Need to get some players into the club that can catapult us into the top 4 and that means opening up the wallet and pay for players to come to the club that are available in conjunction with Blair Hartley this year is the year they need to show us what they are made off and get the players required over the line

We have invested heavily into youth last year and this year can afford to not go with youngsters but get players that will IMPROVE our side where we no longer have the 'OFF ' Games like the Dogs,Dee's,North,Cats games we did this year

We should be well and truly into players like Aish,Yarran,Kruezer,Motlop,Prestia,Treloar and be able to get 2 min over the line

Prefer Shorts midfield potential long term rather than his goal sense, where he is very clever may I add.

Provided he develops I suspect he will start forward and eventually spend more and more time through the middle.

You need the list to be balanced for roles, development, and for funding. If each arm acts on their own, you get the age imbalances we had under Wallace, the wage imbalances under Spud, or the key deficiencies we have constantly had (ie no inside mids)

Richos job is to be like a conductor. He manages all those streams so when they unite it creates the list outcome he needs.

So he identifies the deficiencies, and tasks the recruiters with filling these, not the other way around

Never said its all, said he is the conductor of the process

The notion the recruiter/list manager get the players they each think are needed, and THEN Richo works out wages, strategies, etc around that is backwards

The whole point of creating this role was to stop the disjointed messes of past years (ie the mc muffin trade)
