Traded Patrick Dangerfield [traded w/ pick 50 to Geelong for 9, 28 and Gore]

Agree its still unders but, we are in the worse position of theplayer wanting to leave so must deal with it. If an offer is matched which seems quite simple after Scotts comments on salary cap, he becomes similar to that of the Judd (uncontracted player) move in which carlton gave up two picks and a good player, so who knows we might snare more.

We got Judd for Pick 3 + 20 + Josh Kennedy.

Everyone is saying this is a win-win.

Danger would demand at least that where Geelongs first round pick next two years won't be enough. They have to give up a player like Motlop.

As much as I think Geelong's list is in trouble with the number of games played by players aged 30+ this year, Melbourne is on a whole new level. They are still trying to figure out how to be competitive week-in, week-out, let alone worry about finals and challenging.

Geelong also had the advantage of being the closest team to where Danger and his fiance's families live. So if it comes down to family being the most important thing, then Geelong wins.

I didn't know this. This definitely swings things in favour of Geelong. The fiance will probably want to live closer to her family, when paddy starts pumping out mini-dangerfields. Same thing happened with David Mundy, he was homesick but his wife was from Perth and that's where her family lived. It doesn't always happen but it is a factor.

Danger is a premier player in the competition demands two first round picks at least.

True, but Franklin was also worth a lot more than pick #19. On the other hand Frawley was not woth anything like pick #3. The sad reality with Free Agency is that the compensation has nothing to do with a players trade value.

Danger would be seriously crazy to leave the crows for the cats.
Watching them against WC you would think they are a genuine top 3 side.
Bernie has convinced him to have a chat with us when Adelaide's season finishes up. Huge contract in front of his manager already. :thumbsu:
Can anyone else see the irony between these 2 posts.

They can trade next years first and surely they will get a first for Motlop, All depends what WC want for Selwood he cant even make their first 22 ATM
Sorry pal but Motlop's signing will be announced shortly. :thumbsu:

Question for Adelaide fans. Would you look at trading picks 12/13 to St Kilda for pick 6?

My guess is they wouldn't simply due to the fact that they missed out on 2 first round draft picks in 2012 and 2013, so would prefer 2 first round picks compared to 1.

Also, you are presuming the Crows don't match and get Band 1 compensation for Dangerfield. Assuming he does leave (which I personally don't think he will), I fully expect the Crows to match. So what we get for Dangerfield will depend on what Geelong offers up.

If you do re-sign Motlop I'd be very surprised if you managed to fit S Selwood, Henderson and Dangerfield all into the salary cap, never mind the difficulty in getting picks/players to satisfy both Carlton and Adelaide.

Dangerfield is staying at the Crows.

I hope so, but I don't think anyone will know for sure until after the Crows season has ended (and possibly not until trade week).
Yes, so do I. I'm torn between 2 sources I absolutely trust who have contradicting stories. I should really stick to what I was told last season but I no longer care as I've previously stated. :thumbsu:

Honestly, if your sources are true, then it may be that the decision changed over time. This season has been far from a normal one for the Crows. I can see how Phil Walsh's murder could impact on Danger's decision (both in wanting to move and wanting to stay).

Cats should have heaps of cap space.

Stokes
Enright
Kelly
Johnson
Rivers
Lonergan
Mackie

All potentially off the books

Most of them are veteran though. So over $100k for each of those salaries won't count (as they are currently counted outside the cap). Veterans normally play for reduced salary to encourage their club to keep them on for one more shot at premiership glory (no idea if that's true with the Cats).

Plus Lonergan is contracted for next year and Mackie and Enright are likely to play on from the reports I've heard.

Motlop's salary would have gone up quite a bit, along with Tom Hawkins, who just signed a new contract.

It just dawned on me how much we might have to give up for PD. Not only what we give in return but who gets pushed out due to salary cap.
Will it all be worth it? For the next five years probably, until whatever we give Adelaide turns out to be a spawn child of GAJ Carey and Fyfe

First 2 sources worked/work for the club and keep saying the same thing. Other source comes via Patty's father and he doesn't bullshit... adamant with what he indicated recently. His brother also works for the club... see why I'm torn? One is obviously on the money and I'd stick to my original guns if I cared.

Now it may sound like I'm hedging my bets each way, but that's not the case which is why I put my money where my mouth is earlier in the year and offered 2 Geelong board members a night of free piss if Patty coming across didn't eventuate.

Besides that, the talk around here of Geelong not having the salary cap space to fit all their targets in under the cap is nonsense.

All the best anyway. :thumbsu:

Selwood is a RFA the same as Danger able to get him for nix just like Danger

I dont think the issue of cap room is a problem as Danger wont ask for as much as he probably could at say, Hawthorn or Melbourne where the figure of 1.2 Million would be acheivable. But by going to Geelong for much less opens the door for Adelaide to match any reasonable offer as quoted by Mark Ricciuto.

I'm assuming the source from Patty's father came later this year then. So it is likely that the Phil Walsh murder changed his mind (or it could also be that your sources from within Geelong FC were fed lies from Danger's manager, it wouldn't be the first time a manager has lied).

I'd still be interested to see how they'd all fit under the salary cap. From an outsider's perspective it looks like it would be a tight fit to get them all in and still offer Dangerfield a high enough salary that the Crows wouldn't match. I have no insight into what any of the Geelong players are on though, so it is just me making educated guesses at best.

He has a good offer on the table from Geelong... won't divulge the mooted figure here but it's more than Hawthorn would be willing to pay and more than I think they could afford.

As for your continual defiance in regards to the facts of free agency matching... no further comment. :thumbsu:

But all things going to plan it won't come down to that and he'll stay at the Crows. :thumbsu:

Can you believe Varcoe was on fairly good money at Geelong?

I'm surprised just as much as you too.

We have David Mackay apparently on $400k for 4 years! Jessie White was on a fairly large contract at Sydney (which is why they tried to offload him to us as part of the Tippett fiasco). So it wouldn't surprise me if Varcoe managed to score himself a sweet deal.

It also depends on just how much the top level Cats players cut down their salaries in order to retain the bulk of their premiership squad.

The bulk of their premiership squad have either departed or on their last legs, a couple about to be shown the door... some will be getting new deals on a reduced wage.

Besides that, our list is fairly young.

Varcoe was on a sweet deal before he was traded... it's partly why he was traded.

Partly because he wasn't playing overly well too! :) Most of the Crows board would love to move Mackay along but it's a bit hard to move a contracted player on when they don't want to go.
