i know how frustrating it is as a fan. I hope we get the best compo and move on. No point having him at our club. Not the way to build culture.
There it is again.
Might lose one? Dear me.
I suggest you have another look at this;
Exactly.

Their fans' lack of reality is summed up by comments like this:
(I didn't quote the poster's details full post, because it is a bit of a common theme, rather than only this bloke's thoughts)

Yes, the Pies feel the pain of players wanting out, as much as we do.
Spare us, Collingwood supporters, please.
A reminder;

Chuck another player on the barbie.

If they are so tied to the apron strings, then they should not go in the draft in the first place......just play at VFL level.

Sickness within the family is a different matter. There is no sickness involved with the Aish move.

Slinging mud our way doesn't help matters, we all love our clubs. This kid has done the wrong thing by our club and to the people within our club. Understandably atm we are pretty upset/angry.

Please don't come on our board and be critical of anything we might say. It is our board after all. You and others are welcome if you want to post in a friendly manner.
If you read through my posts you will find I actually came onto your board to praise your treatment of Aish, I think you guys have done the right thing in forcing him into the draft. Things have got a bit off topic since then tho unfortunately :p

Don't see what it achieves.

a. Have a player who doesnt want to be at your club.
b. Lose a player for nothing.

Bulldogs got killed in the off season but they got the best deals they could and rocketed up the ladder. Pies are going through a similar situation with Freeman. i know how frustrating it is as a fan. I hope we get the best compo and move on. No point having him at our club. Not the way to build culture.

What's one player in the bigger scheme of things?

No single player alone will ever get you to a Premiership.....It's that intangible thing called culture that takes individuals and the collective to another level.

Brisbane are making a statement that should have all Brisbane supporters happy in that..............we won't be walked over any more. Why not?

James Aish must be a bit slow. This is a club who could have drafted him but chose Scharenberg instead. This is all about opportunity after football. I don't believe the on field stuff even matters to him. I can't wait till he is gone.

Same! We agree, so let's hit the trade table with him and redden and improve our list! not send him to his second choice club Carlton for nothing.

And you'd have to say that they have far less dynasty's than the AFL do. I don't remember any team going back to back to back in my lifetime. IIRC superleague came in after the ARL tried to implement a type of salary cap where they told you how much every player was worth.

Other than the top four or five players in a team, the rest probably turn over in about five years in league compared to much longer for the good teams in the AFL.

Oh that's right you're from Collingwood, no good talking about unfair allowances that gives you a benefit.
Sorry but I don't quite see your point? You would get rid of the draw? Or you think it benefits Collingwood?

Either way This is way off topic and I think I best be off

If the Lions do put him in the PSD, it would be a very rare occurrence. For the most part, players nominate a Club that they want to go to (even contacted ones, like Beams) and they get there ... no matter what.

It is essentially the player who chooses their own destiny after that first contract.

Yep that's what is so bullshit about the current system. Even players who haven't played a single game of AFL (Freeman), can nominate a club that he wishes to get to.

Aish could have at least told us before the priority pick decision so it slightly tilts it in our favour, but no, the ****wit waited till after.

I agree! Play hardball and demand 2 2nd round picks minimum and pay our academy kids off and then use Jack to get a future gun midfielder from Country Vic! Add Scache, bell and whatever else comes and we will be fine! 2 years is a lot closer than everyone thinks! WE will jump quickly with blokes that want to be here. Stuff Aish and everything to do with him.

Believe it or not but not every Collingwood supported shares eddies views :p

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm probably just looking for any chance to highlight his hypocrisy and oppression.

I'm more than happy to back the club in with their decision to let him enter the draft. This is a true line in the sand moment for the club and they must stay firm, it's either stick together or you'll be quite uncertain of your future. I remember Port being in a similar situation with Ben Jacobs refusing to sign a contract despite a trade not being facilitated, IIRC he was begged by John Butcher to stay, but he obviously left, so it really isn't doom and gloom for the club if Aish goes to the draft, Port didn't lose too much, if anything they benefited as they showed the ability to be strong.

Yeah i understand you have a lot of trouble being a non afl state (a lot worse than the pies). But at the same time last year you landed 2 good players returning home. Tom bell rumored to wanting to return. You could create a 3 way trade with Aish or something, we could easily trade Seedsman for Aish or something along those lines meaning you get someone happy to play for you.

I just dont believe you will get success using this tactic.

Funny, your president wasn't. He also didn't like the idea of all teams getting cap relief for amount of interstate players. Also thought us investing money in Queensland player development and getting some of the players for our investment was unfair. Apparently taking our top ten picks immediately after their first contract is fine though.

You seen to forget that Brisbane poached a Collingwood contracted player last season, don't you think that if you wanted to piss Eddie off, that would have been top of the list of things to do. Eddie may have taken the whole things personally but I doubt anybody else involved in the club would have. At least he for filled his contract unlike Boyd last season.

I certainly hope you guys do the right thing and trade him but time will tell. His contracted until the end of the month so the call is yours. I don't think Collingwood will stuff you guys around. I pretty sure they will offer fair player value, but it will be up to Brisbane to come to the table.

Not really sure it's relevant in the end is it? Is it Collingwood's fault a chunk of your players want out? I'd wager it's not.

But then, Dale Thomas, Sharrod Wellingham, Nathan Freeman, Chris Dawes and Harry O'Brien is still a decent chunk of players who have wanted out in the last 4 years too. So we're not exactly immune to it.

That just shows how unfair the current system is, I'm of the opinion that having every player available to every club would make it (slightly) easier for interstate teams as they have more choice on who they bring in.

But like I said earlier, its a discussion for another thread, I've said what I came here to say, I'll venture back when you guys have cooled down a bit :p

I don't think I'm the only one but if I was a young gun looking to be drafted I would do everything to stay with the club that drafted me. They use their pick on you, they put faith in you and develop you and teach you how to be a man and a footballer. Hell even if I was drafted to Collingwood they would have my undying loyalty. Fair enough James Aish may think the world revolves around him but seriously choosing a club? A 19 year old who has played 30 odd games and no real consistent footy choosing a club!? I'm flabbergasted how is this not a problem?
Happened to us with Freeman too. So i feel your pain bro.

I knew you wouldn't quite see the point, bit like Mr Fawlty talking to Manuel from Barcelona. The AFL draft and draw are unfair and in need of desperate overall, they go hand in hand. Take the Premiers as an example what teams had to play them in Tasmania - the travelling interstate sides.

That's correct, but only because the clubs don't like losing players for nothing. You go backwards if you do that and it makes your case for AFL assistance very difficult there after.

I don't think they go hand in hand at all, you could quite easily get rid of the draft without it effecting the draw. Or change the draw without it effecting the draft...

Bulldogs are a team that have almost exclusively drafted from Victoria since 2010 to avoid the situation that Brisbane has run into over the past few years.

Oh sweet, we get to split 1.5 percent of the AFL talent pool with the Suns. Where do we sign?

For the record, there is no way i'll be listening to MMM in the morning, Fat smug Ed & his arse clown Malloy. Nor SEN, don't think I want to hear from Andy 'the sky is falling down on Brisbane' Maher. Triple J? Pretty sure I won't hear anything about this on Triple J.
