Strongly disagree. How does us having talks with him make us owe him anything other than doing what we said we'd do??? He has already informed Brisbane he wants out so now it is a question of him getting to his preference of club which is of course a 2 way street. I'm sure those involved in the talks from our club would have been professional enough to tell Aish that they would try to get him but it will naturally depend on the trade deal being fair and in the long term interests of The Collingwood Footy Club. I'm sure Aish's manager would have also made that clear to him if he somehow didn't understand it already. It's not like he's naively been having talks with other clubs or that these talks are ultimately going to be to his detriment in any way FFS.

Trade negotiations are a hard calculated business that is all about list improvement and nothing to do with being nice to players who nominate us. That we "owe" Aish anything is exactly the kind of sentimental thinking that you don't want to take into any trade negotiation.
So Brisbane want to jump up and down and demand overs for him then we are perfectly entitled to walk away from the whole thing if we don't think the deal puts us in a better position than we were in before it. Aish would be fully aware of this. It's nice he nominated us but even Oxley and a second rounder is overs if you ask me. I could live with that as the deal but no more! Aish is still very much an unknown quantity, has plenty of potential yes, but on last years form I doubt he'd immediately be best 22 for us. How much potential do we want to give up to get more potential is the question. I guess I'm just one of the few on here who rates Oxley's potential.
find it hard to believe that aisho nominated us without us offering more than encouraging words... Of course there is a limit of what we would be prepared to trade, but a player doesn't simply nominate a club out of nowhere

The implication for me in the original post is that we should do a deal whatever it takes because this kid has gone out on a limb and nominated us. Otherwise why bother to state the obvious that we should follow through on our talks and try to do a deal to recruit him. ummm YEAH! Maybe I'm just reading too much into it but I think a lot of people on here get all misty eyed when an opposition player decides he wants to come to us.
I'm assuming that a player doesn't simply come out and nominate us... Plenty of discussions occur between club/manager/player before... Am I wrong?

If we can trade our way into a better position in the National draft Brisbane will have a change of heart because they will know we can get our man and they will end up with nothing.

But will a Team move back in a Weak Draft?

There are never any guarantees in any draft so the possibility of getting a ready made player and a chance of something decent may be appealing to some.
Teams in the window for a premiership would entertain this option.

You would have to be 100% correct. I doubt any player would just say "I like their colours so might go there". I'm sure there would have been a discussion about our plan, a list analysis, possibly a chat about our facilities and of course an attractive offer.

I would have gone for one does not simply... nominate collingwood.... but i like how you memed it up!
It was one of thosw web based sites. Good thing about them is that they host the picture too. Soz was too lazy to get the PhotoShop going

Interesting reading on the Brisbane board. Some are coming around to the possibility of a trade and others have too much bravado to admit there club has a massive problem.

Some of them think they have won out of the Aish deal although at this stage they have lost him for nothing. I was feeling sorry for them before reading their posts but now I feel sorry for some of them for more obvious reasons. The whole thing is kind of priceless to be honest.

He will have plenty to say if he believes Brisbane are playing hardball. Not scared to talk is pickers. Will be our best indicator yet of whether or we have aish "in the bag".

had some good mail today, looks like we will offer this years and next year 1st for Treloar. Although have also been told Pies believe Brisbane will not change stance and Aish will be at Carlton in 2016. Disappointing but thats the way it goes.

Let's see how the trade goes. Wouldn't count on it. We can put forward a reasonable offer but they don't listen to reason. They are as mad as a snake over there.

Balme said as much this morning but that is also the 'off the record' view then? Are they going to fight it or just let him go?

Are you making reference to the Brisbane BigFooty board or the club.

I don't know why the club is surprised by Aish wanting out. Clubs tend to find out through player managers I assume when players want out . Its no coincidence that we requested Aish or Redden as part of the Beams deal last season and now they both want out.
