Suspended for the first two premiership season games of 2016

@TomBrowne7: @7NewsMelbourne understand Carlisle will concede he's copped strike in @stkildafc video statement that'll be released shortly. 2 week susp.

Following discussions between Jake Carlisle, his manager, St Kilda, the AFL and AFLPA, it was confirmed today that the 24-year-old has:

  • Volunteered to receive a detection under the AFL’s Illicit Drug Policy (IDP).
  • Forfeited his club marketing contract (ASA) of $50,000 in 2016 and had agreed to further substantial variations of his playing contract;
  • Accepted a two-game AFL imposed home-and-away ban to start the season (with a four game suspended sentence for any further conduct unbecoming). He is permitted to play in the NAB Challenge and VFL.
  • Opted to commence training with St Kilda’s 1st-4th year players this Monday, 9th November (two weeks ahead of his scheduled start date); and,
  • Undertaken to engage with a leading Alcohol & Drug Rehabilitation Program to understand the implications of glamorising drug use

And yet Jab Watson still sports a Brownlow...

What a joke. Basically it punishes us

Can we have this investigated or is it going to be swept under the carpet too?

"A Current Affair National executive producer Grant Williams clarified that the program had only received a copy of the footage for the first time late on Monday October 19 and they contacted McConville and Essendon on the Tuesday for a comment and decided to publish the following evening.

I will give him this. He does seem honest about making up for his ****up. Very glad he is starting his pre-season early.

edit, Carlisle interview

I do like the apology at the end.

Honestly, i think this is going to be a great thing longer term.

It's knocked the dickhead out of him pretty hard, and the saints have made it clear that its all about TOUGH LOVE.

We hate what you did, but you're one of us now, so we will work this out together.

Come March, the only thing that will sting is seeing him kill it in the NAB cup, and then have to sit out the first two weeks.

He's doing everything right, I like the guy. Stoked we have him and can't wait to see him play.

Love it.

Sometimes I forget how proud & driven our leaders are & what a great influence they will be on JC, especially given where he has come from.

It'll be swept, in the AFL's best interests to do so, so they won't push the case. Further adds to my case that Essendon should have the license taken away from them though, but then the AFL is as toothless as it is lacking balls.

Step in the right direction from Jake, if the penny's dropped it'll do him the world of good both image wise and as a person. Yet to be convinced though, so I suppose we'll see at the end if he's grown up and become a better person or if he's still a 12 year old pretending.

Good from the club though, ever since this broke they have been quite vocal and quite strong in their use of language that it at least instills confidence that we're not expecting the world but everyone will represent us to the best of their ability or they will not be associated with us. One thing we won't be, is Carlton with Fev for instance or us in the 80's and 90's.

Status quo from the AFL & AFLPA though, don't have the balls to do anything to Essendon or the 34 players, allow Essendon to media kill anyone initially against the brand about it (ie Reimers) and really wouldn't have done much if Carlisle pushed the issue opposed to accepting it. I want to have confidence in the commission, I just can't.

I think that's pretty good in terms of sanctions. Suspension is 'Afl imposed' but I'm sure St K more or less decided on it in terms of games missed. I think it sends the right message in terms of culture at St Kilda and to the younger players at the club.

It's great to hear that he'll return to training with the 1st to 4th year players.

This wasn't the ideal start (obviously) but this is a new club, a new environment, a new playing group, and a new support system.

I trust that he will work himself to the bone to gain the respect of his new club and we'll back him right in.

Or he could be the next Ben Cousins, its up to him now

Had all this not happened, he may have had a bit if a strut when he walked into the club, high contract, big trade price, etc.

May be it's just the humbling and learning experience he needed.

Hopefully anyway.
