Darcy Moore is there as well! Hopefully he'll turn into a fair player!!

1986-2015:-

Heath Shepherd
Ernie Hug jnr.
Nick Davis
Brad Oborne
Rhyce Shaw
Jason Cloke
Cameron Cloke
Brayden Shaw
Heath Shaw
Travis Cloke
Jaxson Barham
Darcy Moore

Edit:- in 2005 we had 6 FS players on our list, with the 3 Cloke's and 3 Shaw's. Brayden Shaw was off the list after that year. I'd be fairly certain that 6 FS players on any club's list at the one time would be a record in the modern (draft) era.

I knew I was missing one. How obvious, duh. It was late. :P

And we passed on Stewart and Kelly who both look alright at AFL level

Kills me we overlooked Stewart. A silly move IMO as KPFs will always be harder to come across than small defenders.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but it really burns. I don't think we saw him physically developing the way he has as he was stick figure tall when started.

Now the kid is well and truly on his way to becoming monstrous and I'd love another kid around Darce's age to take us into the post Cloke era.

Stewart is a not quite right tall.

I still wouldn't be interested in taking him even if it was for free.

Tend to agree and he certainly isn't showing any KPF capacity in the true sense, still more a 3rd-4th tall at best. Seems to get way over-rated on these boards purely because he was a potential F/S.

Yes it'd be nice to take a chance on these kids but I agree with Hines strategy to keep the powder dry for the trade period which allowed us greater flexibility to deliver 3x top 20 picks. May well have taken Stewart instead of Ramsay if available but we'll never know.

What is it about him that makes you say that? I think he's got great scope for improvement, although I think he'll be a utility type fwd/ruck. He's got some evil in the way he plays and I like that.

In our team he'd be competing with say Jesse White for a senior game as a 3rd tall - ruck and yes I know White is a lot older but even so he still outperforms Stewart.

And we know how much love Jesse gets on these boards.

Projects as a taller Jesse White. No thanks. Ramsay every day of the week for me.

That would require him to be KPF which he isn't. He's a flanker type. Prime example would be JESSE WHITE.

Beware of the tall who's key selling points reflect anything but key position or ruck attributes.

Don't get me wrong, these types can find a niche, but we don't need that niche filled.

Amen to that.

"Gee, aren't his hands good below his knees?" ala Josh Fraser. Virtually useless attribute if you aren't strong in the marking contest, have good hands etc. You can find a niche as you said, but a top KPP or ruck you won't be.

Aside from anything else Stewart is far too skinny for a KPF.

A 196cm tall who is almost 22 and still under 90kgs....

Unless he puts on 10 kgs he will never be KP, third tall at best.

Stewart is listed at 93kgs

Even Stewart's club profile isn't glowing...
Used as a permanent forward with some pinch-hitting in the ruck, Stewart's senior opportunities could be limited unless he can start taking more grabs and finding more of the ball as a key forward.

got my figures from the footywire comparison above - no matter my point still stands.
Not sure if you saw him at all last year, he's actually filling out quite nicely, certainly not the twig he was when he was drafted. Still has a bunch of other glaring deficiencies though.

Ernie Hug Jnr.- the one that got away
And to think FOUR Monkhorst boys and none came close to our list from my memory.
I believe one of the boys the eldest, Ben, was very ill with a heart condition, happily I understand he is well now?

I haven't read the entire thread, but I believe that we traded our first round pick in this year's draft to get Treloar. This would mean that if either or both of the Brown/Daicos boys are good enough to attract a first round pick we will have to trade INTO the first round to get him/them.
Not necessarily. We can go into debt in the following draft to make the points. The northern state teams with academies won't want to do this because the academies have been in play long enough that they will all have kids they need points for in the following year. But as our development academy is new and likely any products from it are a few years a away, we could afford to 'borrow' our first round pick say from the following year if we need the points, or as we saw down grading a second round to two third rounds also increases our points if we need too as well. There is a reason why GWS, Sydney & Brisbane traded down in last year's draft.

Stewart instead of kennedy please

Stewart instead of kennedy please

Hine had that opportunity and obviously didn't think so. That Kennedy didn't work out is unfortunate but recruiters assess all potential draftees without the benefit of hindsight.

Stewart instead of kennedy please
I'm sure that there were players taken after Kennedy, who you'd much prefer to Stewart. Stewart would be a slight upgrade on Gault, but well behind Cloke, Moore and White.

Anyone instead of Kennedy

Just had a look back at that draft. Despite the fact that none of them are world beaters, Hine did bloody well. He picked up Grundy, Broomhead, Ramsay, Frost and Oxley, when nothing else was on offer.
