To be fair, "Indigenous Australian" and "indigenous Australian", judging by context in Dylan8's post, are quite clearly the same thing.

Pointing out minor grammatical inconsistencies in an educational manner is fine, we can all benefit from some learning. But you took the piss and made light of the situation, actually coming off as far more racist than anyone else in this thread.

All of this is particularly ironic and embarrassingly hypocritical given the grammatical issues present in every single post of yours on this page, and the last page too.

I personally would love to have a a smidgen of the TI and Aboriginal influence on it but most people I know are of the ilk of what you've explained.

I just feel real passionate about our current flag and can't stand it when people want us to change it to something that is already what we are arguing about.

I hate the southern cross being on the flag as its already on a number of other countries flags.
I quite like the former Libyan flag from 1977-2011 (it was all green and that's it) - was the only flag in the world with one colour, no insignia or detail or anything.

They have since changed it, so being unique (one colour, no insignia etc) is available for the taking..

Coming from the NT originally, I absolutely love our flag. This is just a recolouring of the NT flag because I don't quite have the photoshop skill to put in the wattle design from a few pages back, but it's pretty simple and keeps both the Southern Cross and a symbol representing the 6 states and the territories.

Teal blue of course!!!! It represents the ocean, the sky........the land (under certain highly specific lighting and atmospheric conditions) and....and... and... ducks (lots of ducks in Australia). I rest my case.

I created this set a while ago for a competition on another forum. The comp asked that you show the current and replacement flags, hence the top row of each section being the current ones. The symbol on the ACT flag isn't mine, it belongs to the gentleman who designed the current ACT flag and was an alternate design proposal for it.

This. I've always liked the continuity of "branding" between the Aus flag and the States/Governors' flags, and decried how the Territories didn't fit in.
If a new Aus flag was designed it would be a the perfect time to make a whole set of National, State etc flags.

I think the perfect flag for Australia has been staring us in the face the whole time. Cut away the redundant Union Jack quarter and the bogan Southern Cross half and you're left with this.



The Commonwealth Star. A solitary symbol in a sea of blue for the island nation/continent. The central alignment has great synergy with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags as well.

I think it's perfect and would instantly join the timeless classics of flag design such as Japan, Switzerland etc.

Not to mention a mass of these flags in a crowd would look absolutely mint. It would be one big night sky.

I look at it this way - if you put that up against this

in a public vote, I reckon this would romp it in. People just naturally gravitate toward the Southern Cross when they think of 'Straya.

That Somalian flag is one of the greats. Personally I think there are obvious enough differences between the two (colour and number of points) for them not to be confused with each other. I agree that the Southern Cross would win in a public vote, but for mine the lone star is stronger conceptually (symbolises unity, island geography). It would become recognized as "Australian" over time.

Yeah, but we are currently trying to get out of a confusion situation with NZ, and have plenty of options that would make our flag unique, so why even tempt fate with a similar flag to someone else.

I think the different shade of blue really makes a difference. For example no one has ever confused Australia's current flag with Tuvalu's flag, even though it's a British ensign with stars, because it's a completely different blue. The difference is obvious.

There's also the cultural and geographic similarity with NZ to consider. This may be part of the confusion for people from overseas and might compound the aesthetic similarities.

I don't think confusion with Somalia would be an issue.

Lets be honest, any flag trying to mix blue & white with green & yellow looks shocking.

Keep it simple. Southern Cross. Federation Star. Blue & White.

And top work, looks very nice. I think a version with the colours inverted would look brilliant too.

Edit: Maybe centralise the cross in the blue square, it looks a bit off to the side.
