I hardly think the quality of the local eateries is going to bring the whole thing crashing down. I mean, that area isn't exactly a dining heartland that you're going to head to on your wedding anniversary, but there's plenty of places nearby that you can grab a coffee and a sandwich.

agree. i live in the beaudesert area, but have a brother who lives off oxford st at bulimba. we go over there quite regularly. walk down to oxford st or hop the ferry to new farm. logan certainly no oxford st or new farm when it comes to dining/cafes etc.

the players could pop into the local bunnings (2/3 minute walk from the proposed site) and have a sanger on bread and a coke. then go inside for all their DIY needs.:)
Might have to redraft Danny Duffer.

Terrible location and shouldn't be considered just because it's the 'cheap' option.

Airport facilities or don't bother.

Honestly, there are a few places to go ... but that part of town is absolutely not known for its coffee and dining.

In 10/15 years there may be more due to the development.

Yeah, I guess it depends on how you look at it. There's absolutely options there. It's not New Farm or the Valley though, but by similar comparisons - the Vics are curious about the Seaford/Moorabin comparison. From what I've seen Moorabin isn't exactly Carlton or Fitzroy in terms of eating options, etc, either.

Moorabbin is pretty limited in terms of places to eat but it is very close to Southland where there are plenty of options.

Saints players all live /lived bayside - 10 minutes to home or Brighton. During breaks in training some would go have a meal and hang out - some would go to the movies - some would go to the Brighton Sea Baths and a few would sneak home. At Seaford they had no options so it became a chore and no one looked forward to it. 10 minutes ok as long as there are multiple options. Any longer than that or lack of options will kill it

I can't believe there's so much discussion about the suitability of a potential site based on proximity of cafes. If that's even on the list of considerations for the club then I'm sure it's about number 200.

It's not cafes - its proximity to general leisure facilities that allow the players to get a break from the club at various times. It's not a hard concept - I know the Seaford situation well and the Saints players got bagged for hating it - but if you think about it it was a pretty valid issue and one which had a very negative impact on the players

the lifestyle of the player group should come into it but not up in the top few considerations. i believe most past and current player groups have lived in inner suburban locations eg. coorparoo, bulimba, east brisbane, south bank, west end etc. the social side of the players lives should come into it particularly now with full time professionalism where they usually have a 2/3 hour block to fill in in the middle of the day.
i/we usually go to nandos after i/we watch training at coorparoo and on most occasions a group of players will pop in, of note is that on all occasions i have seen players there they are always the young boys, haven't seen rocky, richy, mitch, sauce, pearce, stef etc. there.

I think it's a reasonable discussion because we really do have to offer everything we can up here to entice people to stay.

I agree it'll be low down on the list of importance, but 'lifestyle' is a positive thing that we can offer when people come to live in QLD.

Leisure options nearby: Cinemas/shops (Hyperdome and Garden City), cafes (The Pantry in Springwood is very nice, quite inner-city type vibe, also a bunch of others around the general area), pubs (Springwood Hotel, The Glen), hell there's even a library up the road. It's not a desolate development area - there's a fair bit within a 10-15 minute walk/less than 5 minute drive.

Not as good as the Gabba in that sense, which has a heap of great cafes within a 5 minute walk, but pretty comparable with the training ground at Coorparoo. Better than QEII probably (which has a few industrial estate style cafes/cafeterias within walking distance and not a lot more), Springfield (isolated with not much around it) and the airport (outside of airport developments, there's not a great deal within a short distance).

Also, building a facility from scratch I'm sure the club will likely take a proactive approach in creating recreational spaces. Recreational rooms were planned for Springfield for that reason - playstations, table tennis, movie room etc. I understand you probably don't know this area very well but I don't think Seaford is a good comparison - it's significantly better than that I would say.

At first I didn't think the surrounding facilities was important, but having watched the Saints at Seaford etc and thinking about it more than I might normally have done, I realise the importance of being able to get away from your workplace, even for just an hour or so, to get a break and be yourself with your workmates and unwind in a change of scenery before going back for more of the same routine..

Not a number one priority, but important nevertheless imo to have normal chill-out places to go to locally away from the club.

I'd recommend The Manor next door to the Glen Hotel for a wedding anniversary or just any old dine out - Chinese a la sumptuous.

For the boys,it would be just 5 minutes up the road and they do takeaway.

The players would surely get preferential customer service at the Lions Social Club about a kilometre or so away, one would think.

The saints ground is my previous cricket club ..,, within 5 min drive of that place there is a heap Of options to get coffee, eat etc - seaford beach, frankston, carrum, Paterson lakes and carrum downs if you are that way inclined. It is not toorak or Brighton or lygon street but come on. The reason the saints don't like it would surely be because it is not affluent enough for them. It is not a great area. I was there only 6 weeks ago and the place and facilities were superb. I think it is all a bit precious to think we should not move somewhere because we need a cafe culture - fairdinkuim.

As long as you're out before dark and the shooting starts.:p

That site is surrounded by industry, so I'd guess there'd be a few places to eat around. Not sure how healthy they'd be. Mind you the airport may not be much better in that regard.
