No. 1 key factor in making the NBA is winning the genetic lottery. If you don't win that it almost doesn't matter. Being a "better" player than the lanky kid at 13-15 don't mean crap when that lanky kid hits 7"0 and you're stuck at 6"1

Yeah, I remember reading the stats about various heights and your % chance of making the NBA (for US born kids). I'll have to try and find that again.

I read a great quote in this post on True Hoop.

Maybe listen to the Andrew Bogut pod cast and he basically says he (Simmons) has no interest in playing for Australia.

For me it was playing with and against Bogut before he made any state / national teams when he was a big man that preferred to hover on the three point line rather than bang down low. Look, I hope he comes out and says he will play for the Boomers in the WC and Olympics. We then win our first ever medal at senior level and get the game back to the level it's needed in this country.

However, everything he's done, said and listened to doesn't give me hope. He has not lived in Australia for close to 5 years now. I doubt he even sees himself as an Aussie.

But yep, I'm just a tall poppy knocking this dinky die Aussie who bleeds green and gold.

Have you actually listend to the podcast yourself? Bogut was joking about pressuring him into playing but also said he understood that getting ready for draft/getting picked/signing for guaranteed money comes first. He even mentioned how he had to skip the u21 championship when he was up for the draft.

Simmons was never going to play in these olympics. The fact he isn't means absolutely nothing to his long-term future with the Boomers. If you think he won't play you're seriously deluded and have no clue about how highly NBA players rate international basketball on their agenda.

It simply is a smart and safe move from him to not play in these olympics. He's got a big season ahead getting ready to adjust to the NBA and will want to do everything in his power to boost his profile from day one. If he went down injured at the olympics that's a disaster.

I have listened to the podcast so I know its not true, I just wanted yo to realise it. Even other posters on here have made you aware that your comments are absolutely stupid and baseless. The fact that you can't even quote him proves that you know he never said Simmons will not play for Aus. Why aren't you mentioning anything about Thon ? I will say this 1 last time abnnd go on the record - Thon Maker and Ben Simmons will never play for Australia in a meaningful game (Olympics or WC) again.

Oh, and I would love to be wrong as that would give Australia an enermious chance to win a bronze, silver or even gold medal one day at an Olympics or WC to go with the girls few over the years.
