Amazing stuff. If we were to play them now?

Smashed us in contested ball and were phenomenally good with opening up the corridor for a lace out kick to their big bloke. Rinse and repeat for whole game.

Leicester City were well and truly behind their competitors as well....

If you make the finals, you are throwing your hat in the ring to win a flag.

No team has ever won a flag by missing finals
Not sure why you quoted my post with this, seems completely irrelevant to what I said.

Leicester City weren't "well and truly behind their competitors" at the half way stage of the season, they certainly weren't getting bitch slapped like we just did against North.

A few people here are getting ahead of themselves, we've had one win against a top 8 side and the other 2 top 8 sides we played have smacked us. We have had one of the easiest draws in the AFL so far this season.

If we can beat the Saints and then back it up with a win against GWS then I will be a little more confident, but for the moment all we have achieved is beating mostly struggling teams.

I quoted your post as you mentioned we were nowhere near our competitors. I countered that man for man Leicester were nowhere near the quality of the big 5 or 6 teams in the EPL either. They also suffered a smashing against Arsenal around the midpoint of the season.

My point is that regardless of the perceived strength of the list, if you make the finals with form and momentum anything is possible regardless of the perceived talent of your list

I reckon the top8 isn't settled yet - which is not to say we make it.

Harder draws will impact on West Coast / Hawthorn and Norths.

Port are lurking - so are we.

I reckon we are a chance against every side we play from here on except for Sydney and GWS. West Coast haven't beaten a top8 side yet and Hawthorn isnt kicking big scores anymore- a lot of close wins.

I just want see us be more competitive against the top teams before I will be confident we can make the 8.

Probably 2 weeks ago I had the Saints ahead of us, they have had a tough draw so far this year and apart from the interstate blowouts against the Eagles, Crows they have actually been pretty good. Our win against the cats has changed my opinion but I still think they will be tough for us to beat, as will all our "winnable" games (except Bummers and Lions).

I would much prefer us to play finals than finish 9/10 on the ladder, I just don't see us doing it.

Agree with you - but I reckon the season has some more surprises in store for the current top8 incumbents - Port are starting to play better each week. Melbourne are competitive and Collingwood have shown they can get up and play when they feel like it. That isnt counting all the top8 V top8 games still to be played...plenty of opportunity for some upsets and boilovers.. Meanwhile we have at least what has become quite a few 50/50 or better games coming if we maintain form.

We are on the rails two back with the big last corner to come ahead of a long long straight ( sit position) - do we have another gear or have we peaked?

Saints game will say a lot. I'm loving this year's footie.

I agree with HBF, reckon we'll finish 9th-12th. Just beat the Pies, Bombers, Lions, and Eagles and I will be happy :)

Just on that, it is possible we could end the year with 13 wins.
On 6 at the moment, but we still have to play St.Kilda twice, Essendon, Melbourne, Brisbane (Away), Collingwood and West Coast (MCG).

If form continues we might be favourites by the time the Eagles game rolls around. They aren't playing in Melbourne again until they play us, and it will only be their second time at the MCG this year.

Would love to see us make it for both the youngsters and the older guys nearing the end, but don't think we'll quite get there unfortunately...

Just cant see one of the teams already in the 8 dropping out, and if one does there will still be strong competition with Port to get in.

I think we will come agonisingly close but will ultimately just miss out. It will be an exciting run to the end of the home and away season. The team has surpassed all my expectations and I'm loving the direction we are heading in.

Might be an opportune time for some people to revisit their thoughts on finals.

If we can't beat St. Blunda, then we are not worthy of playing finals and certainly won't win enough games to qualify.

We are a young team on the rise albeit it a slow one. However, we are still prone to brainfades & burnout purely due to inexperience and lack of battle fitness.

Naturally we should be aiming to win every match we play but having genuine intensity and competitiveness every week is so much more important to us right now.

agreed. we need to build a culture of success.

The culture of "tanking" is a curse. which why we were never any better 5-7 years ago

Perspective achieved. We are still ahead of where we should be at this stage of the reset. We do have some holes to fill.

Let's get them up again after a flat tired performance. They have worked their arses off this year.

Would be interesting to know just how many of our players are beyond sore- bye has come one week late by the looks of yesterday's performance..

What a pity the coach doesn't see Jacksh/Tutt/Whiley/Graham/DVR as good ins for some tired and sore players. Injuries /illness to Jamison/Cuningham/C.Curnow/HarryMcKay/Boekhurst hasn't helped the depth/development issue much ytd - and probably put back some of Bolton's ability to blood youngsters.

So as to question of finals- I think that shipped sailed with yesterday's performance and Adelaide beating Wet Toast.

Still- we would have to be looking at beating a few sides around our current level so Melbourne/Collingwood/Saints/Brisbane and EssenDONE games still remain winnable. Achievable target number of wins is 11 - not enough for finals - but we could also go backwards and maybe pick up 'just' a couple of more games into end of season - Brisbane and EssenDONE. Best result for us I reckon is 12 games if we manage to knock off Hawthorn/Adelaide or Wet toast on a bad day - forget beating Sydney or GWS.

If we don't pick up a couple of decent mids - next year wont be too much different to this.

Agree with this.

More than happy with our progress and I'm not about to slit my wrists over the game yesterday, but if we're still in a position to drop games to teams like the Aints and put in flat, tired performances like that we just won't have what it takes.

That's okay though, the finals talk and hype was getting a bit ridiculous.
