I don't know what was more disappointing today. Carlton losing by 10 goals or putting a sachet of equal into my flat white by mistake.

If Carlton was a racehorse you'd be spelling the team for a crack at the Autumn Carnival. Except for a cameo performance by Armfield it could have been seriously embarrassing today. The second half was an effort from a team which is still mentally engaged but physically spent. The run and quick ball movement has vanished. There are some players who deserve to get dropped but there are plenty more who look like they need a rest. Heading that list is Weitering. His decision making was awful today. His skills have dropped. I say put him in cotton wool for a couple of weeks. We're expecting too much from a first year player.

Time for a cup of coffee and a jam donut. No sachet of equal is going to spoil tonight's cuppa

The Coach said Weitering was excellent today. Which of the two of you is correct???

Outclassed, outplayed, out worked and out coached this weekend buy a superior football side. They were bigger, stronger, cleaner and ran harder than us. We couldn't break quickly because we had no one in good position up forward, they worked back harder than we worked forward, their strength and size as so often with the crows stood out and they were cleaner with their hands and hit more targets.

Gibbs - Worked his arse off and had a really good game. He's our sole class midfielder and it shows.

I find it remarkable that you draw that conclusion to Gibbs' game today. Can you please explain to me how bombing the ball forward to absolutely no one Mitch Robinson style time after time is classified as a really good game?

His kicking efficiency was around 35%. Extraordinary how you can say he showed class today. While he did work hard and get 30+ disposals, what he did with most of them was not very damaging at all...

Seems to be a lot of panic from the BF faithful after today's game. A couple of points to remember:

1. We cannot replace anyone currently on the list until the end of the season, what we have is what we can use
2. The guys playing in the VFL are there for a reason, they have had half a season to stake a claim on a senior berth, if they haven't made it yet they still need to work on aspects of their performances
3. A team full of untried kids will be flogged by the top 8 sides, regardless of how much enthusiasm they play with. We need to have senior players in the side, even if they won't be around when we are a premiership contender again

Please be patient, there has been more positives to take from this season than negatives. Now is not the time to undo the hard work and look for the quick fix options that have prevented us becoming a powerhouse during finals for nearly three decades. Slow and steady progress is preferable to a rapid rise followed by another hard fall.

yep - couldn't walk properly in the change rooms after... HOPEFULLY we won't see him for a few weeks...

I choose to interpret this as D&S wishing Daisy plenty of recovery time.

Any alternative interpretation is too depressing.

So much for playing out of form players into form by backing them in. Cas and Dre should not have played, and they pretty much didn't.

Same team as last week and you get the same result. Surprise surprise. Rubbish from the MC.

Kreuzer against a top shelf ruckman is not a pretty sight.

So we now know we are a ten goal worse side than the good sides and thereabouts with the rest, but going backwards when some of them are going forwards.

Not confident that we will win another game to be honest.

Sorry for the depressing post, but it was written with depressed fingers.

Ok hear me out for a second.

How much does Buttifant need to be whacked, I honestly am starting to think he massively under prepared the majority of our list for afl level bar a select few (who prorbably did yheir own work)

Part of rebuilding is fixing how the club preps the players which will take 2 to 3 pee seasons to fix as well.
New German training technique.

Most people predicted that we'd get around 4-5 wins this year and barely finish above the Bombers.

We have 6 wins and will most likely win 2 more (Bris and Ess), giving us 8 wins, double what was predicted by a lot of 'experts' at the start of the season.

We are in a rebuild and we were playing a team fighting for a top 4 finish. Realistically, 10 goal loss seems about right. We still have a LOT of work to do and a LOT of player development/list management.

We have had some really promising wins and we can't forget that. We beat the Pies, the Cats and Port. We also knocked off Freo in Perth.

I think its about time we drop these older blokes now and bring in the youngsters for the rest of the season. Time to give KJ a go and get Curnow, Cuningham and McKay out there ASAP.

Look at it as we're only 10 goals behind a top 3 team who will be close to fighting it out for their premiership. Within less than a year under Bolts ! We're a long way off, but in footy it's never really that far away. We're at least on the right path.

Again, lost it in the ruck and, due to a general lack of class around the ground(except the defence), the result flows from there.

I am wondering if the reason some players are continuing to get games when it seems they deserve a stint in the VFL is because the club want them exposed on the main stage for trade reasons? For example if they were planning to trade Everitt at the end of the season, do they think that they will get more in a trade if he is seen to be playing seniors consistently? I acknowledge that his poor form may seem to negate that, but I can't really see a reason why some VFL players have not had a go yet at the expense of some non-performing senior players.

The team seemed to play better when there was a second tall target in the forward line. I would prefer we played Jaksch in place of Everitt. Whilst it doesn't appear he has set the world on fire in the twos, his performances have been ok.

I'm still backing the coach and Match Committee.....obviously would know far more about the players than most on this forum. My hunch is the strategy was set out early and they have been sticking to their guns.

Bolton hinted at it in the press conference, so maybe this is the week they shake it up a bit at the selection table.

ummmmmmmmm yep - give him a break to let the calf heal. We do actually need him out there leading and supporting the young guys.
Pretty disappointing today, the team was flat as they came into the rooms, no chatter at all, heads down and then all the family was locked out... interesting. Was not a happy place in the rooms after, didn't head to the function... not too sure it would have been too fun!
Good news is that Big Harry isn't too bad, said he was 'hopefully' playing VFL next week and is aiming for a crack in the 1's in early August. Charlie is chomping at the bit to get back in. LOVE their attitudes - they want to be part of it... They WANT to help turn this around.

Our seniors bar Rowe, Curnow, Simpson and (based on todays game) Armfield, are just not at the level required.
Kruez is heart and sole, but unfortunately just isnt that good. Has a great game every 8 weeks or so.
Walker is cooked, doesnt offer anything up forward and cant play off half back anymore.
Everitts the biggest downhill skier at the club.
Thomas is a shadow of his former self, makes some of the most ridiculous errors.
Casboult has kicked less goals than he has actually played, and that as a key forward is absolutely appalling.

I would argue that Gibbs is caught between playing two roles at the moment, that of the linebreaking outside mid who damages with good possession to deliver to the forwards, and that of the inside mid required to get the hard ball over and over, to lay ferocious tackles and to get clearances. Gibbs, at his best, can do both of those things, but rarely at once and rarely both well. Gibbs, to me, looks tired, and he is hardly the only one.
