The problem with coverage is Southern Cross TV are the major sponsors. I dont know what they contribute financial. But other than reading the scores on a weekend they do nothing. Why aren't they at least showing 1 game a week on replay. Hell even at 3am instead on selling crap with steak knives thrown in.

You don't get it do you.

Short term excitement & alcohol sales versus the long term health of the game.

I guess its a mentality thing.

Short terrm excitement and alcohol sales can go a long way to helping the long term health of the game, your always banging on about the powers that be not promoting the game enough and attempting to attract numbers to the game, here we have a coach doing exactly that and you are continually having a crack at him, bit contradicting don't you think?

I guess its a mentality thing when you are already pushing an agenda.

I stand corrected as only read online article. Have seen print version and Gr8 back page from Examiner. Best news is that the game will be live streamed with local radio coverage. That is a fantastic result and a great way to reach out to those who cannot travel. Well done AFL Tas and please live stream more games throughout the year regardless if commentary is available or not.

Chattswood where is it being live streamed from? the AFL Tasmania website has no mention of it yet

Ignoring the message & attacking the messenger is not smart.
l understand Clarence started the violence. But encouraging it is just pathetic. It does the game no good, except for exciting the bogun mentality in the short term.

Well hats of to AFL tasmania in doing so, "blessed are the cheesemakers"

dont get too excited guys/girls
Just to let you all know the Real Hobart football club (the forgotten Tigers at the TCA) have been broadcasting all of its home, and some away games, on community radio "EDGE Radio "99.3fm every week this year.
Apparently both the club and Edge Radio are extremely happy with the results
Now thats how to develop your brand boys/girls, without relyng on head office to do it for you
Go Tigers

And that is probably why Scott Wade first plan was to relocate the Real Hobart to Kingston. It would of been hard last week for the commentary team at Edge to add oxygen to the spanking the poor old HFC coped at the hands of Cygnet at the TCA 115 points ouch

And this is the standard we need to get to.

As well as AFL Tas Need to vist Football federation Tasmania website and FFT TV page to see how to engage with your supporters, anyway slowing moving forward hopefully the new crew :thumbsu:. some good examples here for them. Maybe a Podcast as well on the local game pity the Waterboys HOFM show Halftimehero mentioned is not available to listen to as one or as download I always miss tuning in

Edge Radio through Rod Hunt have broadcast three matches thus far, the VERY action-packed last quarter of the Hobart v New Norfolk game at the TCA, the entire game at Anzac Park where Hobart were trounced by the Two Blues and the Huonville Lions game at the TCA when the Tigers came from 32 points down to win. I'm led to believe Edge Radio are doing the match from Boyer in a couple of weeks when the Eagles host Hobart.
As for that effort against Cygnet on Saturday, words wouldn't go close to dignifying it.

Surely this is the end of the Western Prospect Stormhawks experiment in TSL:
http://www.examiner.com.au/story/4043531/prospect-hawks-forfeit-state-league-matches/?cs=96

A so-called state league side that can't field a team at either of two levels. Crazy.

The league can't really sustain more chopping and changing, but this mob have hardly been there for anyone to notice their absence anyway. There simply isn't the money for three teams in Launceston, and even if there was a division 2 NTFA team based on the edge of town and without a training ground was not the ideal inclusion. (I strongly doubt Launceston can maintain two teams, there is just no money for local footy, but AFL Tas have to make that much work somehow.)

Anyone heard a whimper as yet that there is a top of table clash this weekend and GF replay? Would have expected this to dominate preceedings from head office through to all media outlets from Monday morning onwards.
I would tend to think one of the reasons we don't hear much about these more important fixtures that should be getting good crowds is simply because we have such an ordinary media in the state these days.
In the TFL years you would've had David Stockdale writing plenty of articles in the Mercury, you would've had Peter Sharp on Tas-TV (WIN) doing plenty of stories on TV, on the ABC Peter Walsh would've been ramping it up bigtime, the ABC Radio Football broadcast would've pumped it up with interviews, flashbacks etc, made it a huge event - we don't have that anymore - and as a result the public just don't seem all that enthused which is a pity. The decimation of a strong local media presence has had a disastrous effect on local sport (not just football either).
It's pretty much the same even down at SFL level with crowds not as strong as they should be.

Media only seem interested in controversy & some biffo at the footy.
The ABC have been forced back to the bigger cities so regional Australia gets neglected. They really only seem interested in politics, terrorism & AFL/NRL stuff.

It's been a disaster since their ratchet job on Sth Launceston. They were handed a premiership team and turned that entity into a wooden spoon outfit within 2 years.

I do feel for the kids and their families though as they have been pawns in this whole sorry saga.

Time to end it all as it does too much PR damage for what is supposdely the premier competition in the state.

Do you mean hatchet or rat shyte job? You could use either or both. :)

The damage to the TSL started when Wade came from Clarence to AFLTas.

This media release dated the the 9th June 2011 details the AFL taps funding (your money guys) of the twin ovals project. That was why Wade, Dominic Baker ,with help from Brett Stubbs (great back pages,)tried in vane to get Hobart to move,( Hobart fc members declined his generous offer, of oblivion ) , now this funding had been in place since 2008, Nobody in the footy public were aware of it, nor did wadey

Put any conditions /caveats on the funding in fact Kingborough council just leased the twins ovals and

kiosks, bars, etc to the local footy and cricket clubs.

Ps when HFC returned to SFL, the SFL /clubs placed a 12 month moratorium on the club from recruiting

From other SFL clubs???

Media Release

TWIN OVALS COMPLEX OFFICIALLY OPENS

For immediate release 9 June 2011

Kingborough Council’s Twin Ovals Complex will officially be opened on Friday 10 June at

12.30pm by Julie Collins MP, representing the Federal Government, Premier of Tasmania

Lara Giddings and Kingborough Council Mayor Dr Graham Bury.

Kingborough Council successfully applied for a grant in 2008 under the Australian

Government’s Regional and Local Community’s Infrastructure Program (RLCIP - strategic

component) and received nearly $4 million in funding for the Twin Ovals complex.

Council sought other sources of funding in addition to the RLCIP grant for the associated

Building, which includes club rooms, change rooms and public facilities, a 200 seat function?

Centre, full commercial kitchen, kiosk, media room and viewing areas. The State Government

contributed $1.6 million and the AFL contributed $500,000 towards the overall project.

The sports pavilion is located between the two ovals with large floor to ceiling windows for

spectators to enjoy the action. The function area is an ideal place for sporting events and for

community groups looking for a venue with excellent facilities. The media room has windows

overlooking both ovals so a constant watch can be kept on the action or alternatively this

room can be used for smaller gatherings.

The football oval is already in use with the first game played on Good Friday this year. The

other oval will be ready for the 2011/12 cricket season.

Kingborough Mayor Dr Graham Bury said the whole complex is a great asset to the

municipality and is a place for Kingborough residents and visitors to the area to play sport,

socialise, keep fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

ENDS

Media opportunity:

 Friday 10 June at 12.30pm

 Twin Ovals Sports Pavilion off Kingston View Drive, Kingston

For further information contact Kingborough Council Mayor Dr Graham Bury on 0417

Very true. TBH neither word really sums up the underhanded and deceitful way they went about entering the TSL at South's expense.

Regardless, all water under the bridge now.
Time for them to leave and we can focus on the many positives that are out there.

Youve only got to look at who started the Prospect club, the same guy who, whilst under the employ of AFL Tas, 'helped out' at South Launceston in the 'Financial management' area.
As far as the TSL goes, I hope the new broom will sweep clean. Its potentially a good footy product. As long as they end the mates deals I hope they can steady the ship.

No point going over old ground. What's done is done.

TSL is a very good footy product. Im confident the ship will be steadied. Just hope they can put past sins to sleep so they can build from here.
