So, no then.

Sam McClure, in an article about Essendon's 2017 profit, has also claimed that our CEO and Dodoro (and others) met with Kelly's management last Friday. "Members of the club hierarchy, including Campbell and list manager Adrian Dodoro, met Kelly's management last week."

Getting nervous there, Carlton and North supporters
?

You don't have the chips. So no.

Probably not. We would likely get as good or a better player with pick 4 in the draft.

Kelly & Martin fall through then I think our top level trading cue will go back in the rack. There's not much out there this year that we would chase. Perhaps, Rockliff, but that's about it.

I dont think anyone is suggesting pick 4 for Hopper but a high 2nd round pick would probably get the job done if he nominates Stkilda. It was more $ that i was referring to.

Our biggest chip is that we are a good team and North and Carlton aren't. Would Kelly really want to leave a premiership favourite to play in a bottom 4 team in front of 25k people every week?

Players tend to find their way to the team they nominate. If Kelly picks us, we'll get a deal done.

I have no doubt Essendon is an attractive destination.

But it will have to cost you one of Merrett, McGrath or one of the high valued young players you have. Or you'd need to trade on another player to get a high pick.

GWS aren't stupid, they're not going to give away someone who in my view has the potential of a Judd for a pick in the teens and steak knives.

It's at the point where I even believe Carlton and North will also have to trade something out to make something like this happen. That's IF he leaves.

Brown now yeah he's ******* amazing but charlie will become the better player

Put Brown in the Carlton forward line with Charlie and the Blues could be top eight, I have felt the Blues have been one extra key forward short of being a top side.

I don't think the club are looking at Hoppers type of demographic.

They are looking for ready made A graders.

Ya reckon?

I think their list is a little disjointed.

Hopper, however, is right up their alley.

One extra key forward, 4 extra midfielders, and 3 years short.... yes.

I think with enough maneuvers at the trade table it's more than manageable. Collingwood is what happens when it gets too out of whack - lot of good midfielders with serious growth potential, but a lot of important players like KPP's are either too young or too old.

Think for total years attendance to all games we were 4th. Definitely behind Collingwood and Richmond but I don't remember the other

From wooden spoon to 7th (at least) within 12 months. That sort of rise is almost unprecedented.

The 'unprecedented' nature of it was due to you losing half your list (and best players) due to a systemic club wide doping regime that resulted in tens of millions of dollars of fines, payouts and legal costs, criminal sanctions, suspension from the finals a few years back, and half your team being suspended last year (resulting in the spoon).

Of course you bounced back this year. You couldnt exactly have gone backwards from that.

You're now left with a mix of decent young players (obtained via finishing low and players like Carlisle quitting) and some senior blokes back in the side.

I predicted you guys scraping into the 8 this year, but you still have a Frankenstein monster list that has most people scratching its head. Personally I would have let your senior blokes leave (traded out Hurley, Watson and others) when you had the chance, and then used that currency to load up on the draft and gone forward with Heppell, Francis, Merrett, Daniher, McGrath and co leading the charge via a mini rebuild.

Instead the Dons had a bet each way. Kept the old guard (out of loyalty for trashing their careers largely) and also got in some good youth.

Like I said; you had a bet each way.

There is no 'premiership window' opening at the Dons. Just mid table finishes for a few years (unless you nail the next few drafts of course). Your list is as unbalanced as ours was a few years back when we spent a few years in the finals (but didnt really achieve much).

With our extensive list of gun players that are either currently in or about to enter their prime, a premiership in the next couple of years looks on the cards.

Whatever gets you out of bed in the morning.

I totally agree. Buy low (eg. Hopper hasn't had the chance to show much yet) versus buy high (Kelly has had a stunning year). I'm not saying GWS are having a runout sale on Jacob Hoppers, but maybe someone can tempt him away with an overpay 4-5 year contract.

Ess are now a good team? You got handed a wooden spoon draw and now proclaiming ess a good team?

You won 3 games against teams that will play finals and scraped into the 8 on %.

2 of your 3 wins were against interstate state sides in Melbourne. Somethings never change - ess supporters getting ahead of themselves is proof.

17 clubs are into Hopper. He won't be coming cheap. That is a current misconception.

Yeh, not in terms of $$$. I don't really care how much we pay him, we're not paying anyone else. But if he nominates a club, GWS may not get the full return they'd like.

My proposed trade, Carlton's pick 3 + 2018 1st round pick for Josh Kelly & GWS 2018 1st round pick.

I reckon Carlton would back themselves in to finish higher on the ladder next year and I reckon GWS will back themselves to win the flag, so potentially a swap of pick 8 for 18.. IMO both parties would walk away fairly content with this.

Crazy trading your 1st rounder next year - Rankine, Lukiodis and King will ensure no club in the bottom half of the ladder trade their 1st round pick. These 3 would nearly go 1, 2 & 3 this year. GWS would do that deal if Kelly picks the Blues.

Imagine handing the Giants Rankine!!! No recruiter could survive that.

Kelly and Hopper for [(Pick 3) and (Gibbs compo/ 1st rounder) and (swap of future 2nds)].

Thats about 4,000 points (roughly the equal of Saints picks 7 and 9 and a pick 20 thrown in as well).

By comparison we got Judd for 2,600 points (equal to pick 2) and Kennedy. Treloar was equal to 2,600 points also (around pick 2).

Some underrating of our list from North & Carlton supporters is pretty laughable. Especially North.

You struggled to beat us when we had a bunch of kids in the side.

Your club also struggled to beat Carlton.

The question marks are merited.
