Opinion 2017 Draft Discussion - Pick 3 - Poll added

Would be interested to know how people quantify weaknesses when it comes to these kids. In the modern game where constant pressure is vital along with being able to play multiple positions, surely a meduim forward needs to be able to spend a fair amount of time through the midfield.

Perhaps the question i should be asking is how would you rate the following, in terms of top 10 talent in their draft year, mainly due to their lack of endurance

Alex Fasolo
Jamie Elliott (Type of player I currently rate Rayner, based on size, power, endurance and attributes)
Tim Membrey

Would you pick any of those guys in the top 10?

As I said, he may turn out to be a Petracca, Gray or Martin, but he is light years away at this stage

Very true, we all have our own opinions and favourtes but i trust sos will pick who he thinks is right for us and he has nailed both drafts since coming back to the club so his record is pretty good and like i said, i wouldn't be disappointed in any of Rayner,Cerra, LDU or Dow

You've named Charlie Curnow as the only certainty out of that forward line list to be an A Grader (Most likely even better). McKay shows promise but a long way to go, JSOS looks like a solid B Grader, Casboult has peaked with Wright. Lamb and LeBois might last one more year on the list and wouldn't rate Cunningham a gun forward maybe mid also not as bullish about Pickett as others think he's more you're highlight player then star. Kruezer has proved he is a ruckman not a forward, Cripps averages .5 goals a game and struggles to make an impact forward with his poor kicking at goal?

Forward line has a long way to go. Simple question would you take Martin 2017 or Cotchin 2017? Plenty of players can do what Cotchin does but only the elite can do what Martin does!!

I dont care if raynor is picked or not, I dont care to try and compare him to any other player - I am speculating that a couple of low risk high quality mids are on the agenda for SOS and Bolton - and I gave my reasons why. There can be no argument because I have expressed an opinion - not made a prediction.

I can critique what the list lacks as much as anyone can - but the discussion is who do we think will come to us at #3 and why. If you think Raynor will be available at #3 and also SOS will pick him - thats fine. I am not trying to have an argument about relative merits - because I cant split the difference between any of LDU/Dow/Cerra or Raynor - for Carlton.

Suggests that he will be run off his feet at AFL level where he does not get the benefit of a forward 50 zone. And limited midfield time despite the benefit of a forward zone is not a great sign IMO.
The Smoking Gun at #5424 and Arr0w at #5494 in this thread have highlighted this rule, that Rayner benefits from it and that his lack of endurance, even as a forward, will be heavily exploited against whichever team he plays for.

Still pretty sure they all get the same rules in the TAC.

Raynor has a number of weapons, so in a sea of 15+ he can explode on the lead, for instance.

I've noticed that you haven't brought up the Dusty comparison recently, would love to know why (not trolling, curious) ?

BTW, he's listed at 187cm, and most likely still growing. We may have a 190cm-ish, big-thighed Fevola type. You never know.

Look, to be honest, I don't see the other likely candidates being so incredible at pick three that you wouldn't take some punt on Raynor. We have pick 10 still and we are still around 2-3 years from the deep end of a rebuild.

Get Raynor. I insist

..... if not, get Cerra. Really warming to this kid and seems to be very keen to come to CFC.

This draft is clearly evenly rated at the top end with multiple players being talked up as number 1, 2 & 3 and all having their weaknesses highlighted and emphasised by some, whilst talking up the strengths of others.

Makes for an interesting build up into on the draft.
