After a poor opening round, we sought to bounce back away from home against our poaching catchment and the game was an absolute corker. A spirited game saw us down by 3 points at the final siren, however we tackled hard (40 to 30) and controlled the play.

It was a tight affair for the whole afternoon, and we held a 13 point lead as late as the 21st minute mark of the final term, however two late goals to the Furies and a Freo Hammer behind (as well as a rushed behind on the siren) meant we started the season 0-2.

Fancyscum (25 disposals, 3 goals 1), DemonJim (16 disposals, 2 goals and keeping his opponent quiet), Headless (4.1), Yakker (25 disposals, 11 tackles) and OddHawk (18 hit outs and 23 disposals) also played well and all unlucky not to poll votes.

The lead up to Round 1 was big – Celebrating 25 seasons and a heritage round clash at home against the Wonders. That’s where the good stuff ended as we got smashed. I don’t really want to write any more about this one. But trust me Blern and Headless, the write-ups get better from here.

After a close loss in Round 2, we were up and about early in the week before realising that the Roys were relatively poor at bantering. It was a cringe-worthy week, but we welcomed Proper Gander into the ranks with open arms. In her first match thread, she showed quality with quick wit which generally went over the head of the Roys. The thread did start well with a cracker of a GIF in the OP by Golumless

Similarly to Round 2, we got out of the blocks and led by 24 points half way through the first quarter but the Roys managed to drag it back to just 14 points at the break.

The second quarter was a quieter affair, with both teams managed just 2 goals each as we held on to a 8.6 (54) to 6.6 (42) half time lead. Once again, we got out of the blocks early and lead by 22 points after 5 minutes before the Roys slowly whittled it away.

A bog start to the third term was crucuial, and we managed to nab 4 of the first 6 goals to extend out lead to 25 points, but again late goals killed us as the margin was back to 12 points (12.8 to 10.8) at three-quarter time.

Two quick goals to sante and cooney had us up by 24 points at the 3 minute mark, but the Roys kept pressing and eventually wrestled the lead back after a burst of 4 goals in 7 minutes and held a slender 8 point lead entering the final 5 minutes. Sante kicked truly to bring the margin back to 1 point with 22 seconds left on the clock, but it wasn’t to be as we went down by a solitary point 16.11 (107) to 16.10 (106)

We were up against the likes of Morganashlee, Wooshette and candiehappy in the match thread which was to make for an entertaining week!

A 0-3 start (with two losses by less than a kick) didn’t sit right, as we went about trying to get our season back on track. In a low scoring, scrappy encounter, the margin did not hit into double figures for the entire game, and we were headed for a draw until Proper Gander popped up with a point in the final 30 seconds of the match to seal our first win of the season!

Goalkicking Award – Season 25
We struggled in front of goal this year. We rotated a few players through FF trying to find someone in form… from memory we went through Headless, cooney, Rodney, Tarkyn and a few others at stages throughout the year, with about half a dozen also being tried through CHF to find the best combination. There were, however, a fair number of players who helped to contribute though either from the pockets, flank or through the middle.

RodneyDangerfield is a key institute of the Sweet FA and of the Demons. A well loved figure throughout the league, not particularly for his on field performances. But as they say, there is more to Qooty than just Qooty.

He has entertained us all year and it is fitting for him to recieve some recognition for all he does. I doubt even he believed that he would get the goalkicking award but i guarantee he will treasure it.

A Mount Buller OP written by BRAB wouldn't be a proper OP without a mention of RU_ and we were not left disappointed.

Sitting 1-3, we just had to get the win at home to ensure our season wasn’t over before it even had a chance to begin. And boy, did we start well.

A 6 goal to 1 first term put us on the box seat, whilst we managed to get out to a 52 point lead at the 16 minute mark of the second term. Two late goals to the bombers cut the margin back, however at the half we comfortably lead 10.7 to 4.3.

The Bombers hit back in the third term, scoring 7.6 to 1.2 and we went into the final quarter 11.9 a piece.

Cometh the moment, cometh the hero. Proper Gander Gander (damn that mic echo issue sitll isnt ficed) bobbed up with 2 goal in 50 seconds to put us up by 12, but four consecutive goals in a 10 minute purple patch had the Bombers back up by 2 goals which they held onto with just 5 minutes remaining. Late goals by fleabitten, sante and TheTrader15 ensured we got another four points in a close one.

Whilst disappointing to almost lose it after having a 52 point lead, snatching a win from the jaws of defeat always feels bloody fantastic.

For the second straight week we came out firing, bagging 9.3 to 4.1 in the first term with Headless bagging two early as MBD ascerted dominance against the team everyone seems to forget about. Seriously. I always forget the Dragons exist until we play them.

Once again we were not able to play a full four-quarter effort, and it turned into an arm wrestle as the Dragons outscored us by 9 goals to 4 in the second and third term – We managed to find ourselves down 13.11 to 13.9 going into the last term.

Unlike most weeks, we managed to kick away in the final term booting 6 goals to 2 to run out winners 19.14 to 15.12. 3 wins, 3 losses and we were well and truly back on track.
