Messaged one of my GC contacts.

On Jack Martin to Carlton: "It would take massive overs. We wouldn't accept Essendon's pick 9 and any of the players they offered. He hasn't given us any signs that he wants out. It was Essendon thinking they could raid us. **** Essendon."

On Gold Coast wanting Sam Walsh: "Best player in the draft by a country mile. That's saying something given how good the top end is this year. A sure thing. A genuine gun midfielder out of the gate. Carlton know this. It would take overs your way to make it happen. Worth it though. Unless Carlton have trades for ready made guns entering their prime in mind I don't see why you trade Walsh."

On rumored trade: "Very early days. Question is what is Carlton's end game more than what is ours. Who have they lined up with those selections? Wingard and 10/11? The Crouch brothers and 13/16? I suspect that if you trade pick 1 and your next year's first that you'll have 2 or 3 ready made A-graders and first round draft picks ending up on your list."

So we got slightly bent over, which is what I said?

Basically it was the finalisation of the deal proposed by SOS for Bryce Gibbs 2 years ago. McGovern + First pick for Gibbs. With Adelaide and Carlton paying a cut to Sydney to facilitate the transaction. Took a couple of years for SOS to complete the transaction but he did.

There's no way we trade pick 1 unless we have a deal lined up with the SA clubs already... Perhaps that's why we let the Crows bend us over a little bit in the Governator trade..

Probably? Or is?

Is he?

Nobody knows. All we can do is project forward whom is the better player long term. The general rankings clubs have collectively in November plays out on draft night. Eight months later or six months earlier can be different and 6 years later different again. Fifteen years on is only time it is clear cut. You can only work in the present.

If Sam Walsh is the best by a country mile then I have an idea, why don't we draft him?

Easy-peasy.

By all accounts, Smith has more speed and is as good if not better an endurance runner, with the added bonus of honing his craft as a running defender pre-2018. Including intangibles and the season of 2018 as a whole, Walsh is the better prospect though - a position widely regarded by recruiters.

If you're the Crows or Port, you play a VERY risk game if you trade for pick #2 - what happens if the other club then trades for pick #1?

Yesterday late arvo when I last checked you lot were pathetic with no new rumours and sappy attitude. I said ****ing lift, well FFS, you lot lifted. Kudos to you lot for getting back up off the ground. You going on with this morning at a rate of knots. Keep it up and never fall as low as you did in previous 24 hours ever again.

History has proven that there’s a lot of luck and unknowns in the draft. Suggesting that anyone is a bullet proof selection or a “sure thing” is a bit silly IMO. If you can get value by trading, let it be pick 1, then you do it.
Especially in our position when it's not an 18 year old that is our primary need.

Only way I’d do something like that is if we could get Kelly.

Have Essendon sit on their hands playing games with GWS for the week, we trade 1 for picks 2 and 3, trade picks 2 and 3 for Kelly + something else, GWS can now afford to keep Shiel and hold him to his contract. We get Kelly and stop Essendon from getting from Shiel :)

crazy idea, keep pick one. get the best player as rates by everyone.

its boring i know, i was going to suggest another crazy trade scenario (maybe later when im bored), but geez some people would trade out for some terrible offers on here.

If there is a possibility to trade down to #2 or #3 and get something on top (pick/player) while still getting our main target, wouldn't you do it?

I do agree that some are throwing away our first rounders in 2018 and 2019 very recklessly in some of these scenarios though.

You are an evil person.
It takes an sick mind to concoct a scheme more devilish than this.
Well done good sir, I tip my hat.
